3DS Streetpass Experiences

GDC got me some passes yesterday. Nice, I completed the August birthdays! First month to do so, only one or two missing from everything else.

Ok question about mystery fish again... Do I also was prompt for 2 mystery fish at Marshview Pond, both being golden bass. Does that mean that the mystery fish WAS the golden bass, or was there something else in there that I was supposed to catch? The fish in the pond weren't as big as they normally are for the baitless fish. Just trying to make sure I have this right, since I noticed that most baitless fish on the GameFAQs guide I use, list the mystery fish I know of, as baitless fish.

i haven't found anyone that has pink puzzle pieces for the FF Explorers puzzle yet... weird. I almost always get 1 or 2 after the first few days of streetpassing. Been over 30 people.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about, but there are no fish that are truly hidden. There's normal fish, and there's fish where you need a sighting for their baits to be activated. They always appear on the list whether you have a sighting for them active or not; they'll just have zero baits listed.

Ohhh. What I noticed, was that I could make them appear even without the "mystery fish spotted!" notice. That's been a relatively new thing that's popped up for me, for whatever reason. I always assumed that maybe there was MORE mystery fish that I was unaware of that did not show up on the list. As I mentioned, I use a guide every time to see what each baits are needed for them.

There's a new Special Mii being distributed through Spotpass on North America, due to National Streetpass Weekend.

Finally isn't Kyle again :v

I only have 4 pink pieces and ive gotten 100+ passes since the puzzle came out

You know what's special about pink pieces, right?

I know. Trust me. I've 100%'d every puzzle up to Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (But I also completed Paper Jam). It's just that I've never heard of anyone getting a pink piece to start off with, so I wasn't sure if you could start off with them, or if only guests could distribute them.

We'd never finish any puzzles if it were the latter.

I always take my 3DS to work with me, I live in a pretty remote town in Alaska, and theres only about 30,000 people in my town proper, I might get a hit a day if I'm lucky, as I drive a lot for my job, and I'll once a week walk into McDonalds and get a coffee or something to pick up the Spotpass there.

I have a job where I go to peoples houses, so if I'm lucky I'll pick up the owners, or a neighbors 3DS. Is that weird btw? I never thought of it as unprofessional but I have my doubts here and there.

So far I only have about 180, in the two years I've had a 3DS, so slow progress.

I had one of those once and he worked for Nintendo.
I got Amy the other day who worked for Nintendo. I think the one I was referring to a hack as mentioned in onenofnthe quoted posts below.

They're usually Nintendo employees and go out through SpotPass to promote a new game (e.g. Aonuma's Mii went out to promote ALBW). Seeing one in the wild is weird though, could be hacked. Do you live near Nintendo?
Nope, I work in Central London, England. Nintendo's UK based is in Cambridgeshire, I think.

Home brew hacks.
This makes sense.

Amy has zero puzzle pieces. I'm surprised! Every Nintendo person I've come across has them all completed, including the pink pieces.

Apologies if was posted before. I suppose this fits here... the McDonald's German relays will end in a few days, it seems:

Is it weird that the German NZ schedule only goes up to march 31st?
https://microsite.nintendo-europe.com/nintendozone/

That's not so weird. I remember it used to go from a specific date for a full year. It might just have been November 21st to November 20th.

To me it looks like streetpass relays might get discontinued. The wording on the timeline does sound pretty final: "Up until March 31st".
Well.

A friend I was sharing a hotel room with at Anime Boston and I are both working on catching an A+ of every fish. I ended up only starting fishing strategically - I only went fishing if there were at least three jumpers (people who owned the game) or if my friend were in the queue. This all but guaranteed a rare sighting every time, and because each of us had most recently attempted to fish a rare, we essentially passed the sightings back and forth.

Both of us got 3-4 new A+ rares out of it within a two day weekend.

(Said friend fishes -way- more than I do - he has at least eight
UFO
rods in his inventory with level 3 boosts because he had nothing else to do with all the fishing money he was earning. I've so far opted to simply remake my existing rod rather than create entirely new ones.)

So, HomePass will be no more? :(

Don't think so, at least for now. It's true that current Homepass setups use the NZ@McD1 SSID (from German McDonald's), but unless a new system update pulls out this SSID, I suppose it can still be used...

(I'm not entirely sure though, I don't use Homepass since... January, I think?)

I know for sure the morning of Apr 1 I still got a massive hit from McDonald's while eating breakfast there during getting my winter tires off my car. Not sure if this is a gradual thing or what, but it definitely wasn't a switch at midnight or anything.

On the other hand I haven't gotten hits at the McDonald's in the middle of town for a looooooooong time, hasn't seemed to be working. I walk by that fairly frequently and even occasionally go in, and nothing.

Yeah, got some myself a few hours ago. Looks like it'll take some time until they phase the system out.
Get those streetpasses while you still can.

Got back from a cruise with a few stops, my Streetpass highlight was getting a hit (presumably in Tortola) for British Virgin Islands. No map available of course.

I only have 2 Plaza Tickets to get from StreetPass Mansion and StreetPass Fishing each, and both are very hard to get if you don't get many streetpasses daily. I still need to do all the puzzles (am I mistaken, or where there as much as 50 of them?) and I have no idea what triggers them. As for pairs, I know how to get them, but it's quite hard to find people who also have the game.

As for fishing... It's gonna take a while to get all the secret fish, but it's manageable. A+ size fishes on the other hand... they seem to be completely random. Not even big baits seem to help, as I have gotten all my A+ size fishes with 3 baits mixed or less.

There are indeed 50 puzzle boxes. The trigger is meeting people with a tag count greater than one; pay attention to the tag counts in your queue before you enter the game, collect their piece first, the make as large a room as possible to increase the chance of them spawning in it. It is actually favorable for these to be people who do NOT also own Mansion, as they will award you with a new puzzle; people who do play instead present you with a puzzle they have previously completed, with their completion time replacing the par time.

The Big Catch Boost rod ability is the only thing that has worked to get A+ fish for me. Have it at level 3 with 6+ Anglers as the trigger and that brings A+ to being a roughly 1 in 10 chance. I only mix baits to get rid of unwanted ones; it doesn't have any appreciable effect on the size of fish you pull up in my experience.

You have more patience than I. Once I got all of the Plaza Tickets in Flower Town I shoved it in the vault and never touched it again.
160 fish is required to finish Fishing's plaza tickets. It's easily the longest I've ever spent collecting tickets from a StreetPass game; took much longer than Mii Force's.

The fish game is almost impossible to complete ._.
and getting that Golden Flower Can :/

Yeah, its shit. I managed to get the gold can because I actually, literally, figuratively live 2 minutes from a BBY. Made getting Streetpasses easy. Now they don't have the Streetpass function anymore. :(

As for the fishing game... I got pretty damn close to A+ every fish in the game. Eventually, gave up after getting piss bored of that shit though. Maybe if I hook up the homepass I can give it another shot. But I ain't in no rush.

I'm having a challenge trying to get the A or A+ dragonfish. The problem is that I might have 4-5 baits for it but I keep getting the bigger fish. I can tell when I see the shadow nibbling at the bait whether it will be big or small. It seems that for every 10 baits or so, I will finally hook a dragonfish but it's been size B or smaller. I guess I need to be patient.

Yeah, that's the issue I was having. It's easier to target fish with baits only specific to them first. Fish that share baits are a bitch. Having the Lv.3 bigger catch rod helps real in the A+ fish but I think it hinders catching smaller fish in general. It's all just RNG it seems. You keep tossing... eventually, you'll get it.

Also, I only used single baits. From what I can tell mixing baits don't seem to do anything in terms of fish size.

I gave up on mii force. Just got irritated with it.

I only use single baits too. Bigger baits never did anything for me.

I'm getting there, too. You need luck to get a perfect, ideal team colour scheme. I've decided to skip it until I've completed like 3 of the games. So yeah it'll be a while (prob never...) Just sucks that it has to have such a hard challenge.

A day at Universal Studios Japan got me up to 75 Streetpasses in one day, and I managed to re-complete about 10 puzzles throughout the holiday. Osaka's Pokémon Center was also a pretty nice hotspot.

Now it's back to being lucky to get 10 hits a day. xD

I got through it just with the three selective hires you get. Didn't need anything more.

I'd suggest sticking with white (erases bullets) and light blue (effective all-around shot). Don't forget that you can reconfigure weapons at any time if you want to start firing in multiple directions or need a weapon boosted for a certain circumstance.

I remember having light green being very useful too, since it targets everything, and kills ghosts. Still, lengthy arcade gameplays are what I really suck at. I'm always bound to screw up and miss a stray bullet, or forget to memorize where a random enemy pops out of :/ I'd rather spend my time on the other games, for now.
