Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

The whole design, the story, the boy band characters, everything..... Game looks so terrible. It's sad, actually. And I was one of the biggest FF fanboys in the PSX and PS2 era.
Hot garbage.

Huh, so obviously the bonus from the demo for the main game will be Carbuncle as a guide/summon. Interesting.
Better make sure you name him what you will him to be in the final game haha

Also, now I have to download the demo with my main/EU account too to make sure the PAL version of FFXV will recognize the demo save file.

I had no problem with the framerate but the combat just made me want something closer to Kingdom Hearts. Attacks didn't have any feel of weight/impact in them. I didn't really feel it, need to play trough it again.

Personally I would be so friggin pumped if this was turn based but what can ya do.

Jesus, performance is bad, 20 FPS bad, even without special effects going on. The game also looks far, far worse than I was expecting. The absurd lack of any AA whatsoever, coupled with a possible non-native resolution leads to one of worst IQs for a game I've ever seem running on my PS4.

I'm in shock, in the worst way possible.

Ran through the demo and actually was embarrassed playing it, or if anyone saw me playing it for that matter. Hope final build ditches this childish bs throughout the gm.

Yeh, better play grown-ass man games like Call of Duty and Gears of War. They make you look manly and increases the chances of getting laid by 150%.

Hot garbage.

Have you played it?

Duscae was great. Garbage? Go back to your hyperbolic time chamber.

I just finished FFXV: Dream Drop Distance, or whatever the fuck that was.

Man that's not gonna sell anyone on the game. If I were a fence sitter, that'd push me right off the edge into "nope" territory.

Duscae was 1000x the demo that was.

The demo is inconsistent, both visually and control wise. I don't know if the actual game is more consistent.

The trailers look great but the screenshots are terrible, so I really can't make my judgement now. I think if they can stabilize the framerate of Duscae, slightly update the texture and improve the AA, I'm satisfied. We are dealing with probably the most complex lighting system, some of the best particle effect, and one of the longest draw distances in console games here (according to the trailers, not this demo). The art direction is still amazing.

When it comes to control, I really won't hold my breath for it. SE has proved themselves again and again that they are not top materials for action games. Duscae's combat is merely bearable for me. The new demo sees some improvement (I appreciate the improved camera movement), but it's not enough for me to fell in love with it. Still, it's far better than the Witcher 3 IMO so it's not THAT bad. I kind of like the combat in Type-0 (PSP version, the remaster has shitty camera speed that makes it unplayable for me), so there's still hope, just not much. SE should consider bringing back the turn-base system for FFXVI now. Let Ito work on it.

I'm still hyped for the release, but this demo really confuses me. They should just make Duscae 3.0. It takes less resources and gives a better presentation about what the game is actually about. I bet some people (who didn't get the chance to play Duscae) would think this game is some sort of poor men's Kingdom Hearts if they don't follow the news as closely as we do, and SE are losing many potential customers here.

Something off-topic: the anime is kind of decent, good for them. If they screw up the anime, I'd have less faith in the story of the game.

Agreed

hitting that iron giant didn't feel good.

games like KH or souls games really spoiled us when it comes to smooth controls and the feel of hitting teh target.

still enjoyed the demo tho.

Yikes, the fps in the boss fight during the rain and with you warping around drops pretty hard, like 20 fps. Guess you need to spend another €400 for a PS4K to be able to play it with 30 fps.

I did enjoy the demo though. Combat was ok, but it felt pretty unresponsive. Hope the full game has a bit more depth to it.

Meh. I hope this game is good, but this demo didn't do it for me. For what it's worth, the framerate issues are overblown, performance was decent, but the combat was exceptionally lackluster. 90% is holding attack? I'll reserve judgement as I loved ff11 which was auto attack, but I'm not hopeful. I hate kingdom hearts, so the comparisons don't inspire confidence.

Carbuncle is cute! Music seems good. Worried mostly about the tone of the game.

i literally said in the first comparison that it should help people with both systems like myself. some people like to see the difference... and its noticeable here. not JUST resolution... not trying hard at all... the screenshots speak for themselves... dont know what to say if you dont see a difference... everyone else does. seems more like you dont want to acknowledge the difference.

i hit the switches to make both tod/weather as close as possible... its not exact, but theyre close. some of those are from the opening cutscene right before you gain control too so i dont know how different the time or weather are during those scenes.

As Jumper said, you are trying way too hard. Yeah there is a difference, and you would know this the moment both systems were announced and had played FF13 prior.

I have both systems and ill still buy on Xbox. Does that make you mad?

The games looks good. However, they really need to have the frame rate locked at 30 because it worsens the combat.

About the combat: I feel that the camera placement should be distanced away from the character and maybe placed at the center. The way the character attacks enemies while un-locked is a bit annoying as well.

For example, I'm fighting an enemy to the right(not locked to it), but I'm focusing the camera forward because i want to see if the other enemies are going to attack. The problem is when the enemy in front gets closer, Noctis targets it instead of the one on the right.

I guess I'm not used to the auto dodging yet. Regardless, the frame rate dips need to be smoothed out

I am absolutely not sold on the magic system. Enemies just run away from the area you throw the item at - what is the point?
Aside from that, I overall liked it, though. Not as into the combat, but the world looks great.

Just quoting myself here to say that I wouldn't be surprised if this is running at 720p on PS4, IQ is THAT bad.

As someone who doesn't really care for FF since he's never really had a interest in the games, this really didn't do much to sway me to buy XV. I tried playing X a long time ago and it really never clicked.

I liked the music though. Soundtrack would be cool to buy.

Hot garbage.

I can't take your post seriously man. How is the story garbage? It is literally returning to the roots of FF.

So combat seems awful. I am not digging it all. If anything it may be worse then the other demo and I wasn't a big fan of it there. Art looks cool though (it did for XIII too). Oh well, not a game I am going to pre-order after all but we shall see what happens when the full previews/reviews hit.

Maybe the first Demo should have been this Free Demo...

The first Demo is a proper look into the game. I mean if they would update that Demo with the current stuff from the game i would be way more happier.

But this small thing did nothing. Sure it showed me what the Engine can do at 20fps. But it didnt give away a good look into the game.

I went in expecting to hate it, but I actually didn't. I really enjoyed it.

The weirdness/mystery/fantasy was exactly what I was missing from FF XV and it really delivered on that. Combat was obviously basic, but they streamlined some of the more confusing aspects of Duscae and I expect the full combat to be pretty interesting. You can fight a Lv 15 Iron Golem in the end if you step on a monster plate and that fight was pretty decent.

Negatives:
- Graphics/Performance: Really not on the level they should be. Oh well. PC version should fix that hopefully.
- Controls were unresponsive sometimes. I still don't like hold circle for continuous attacks and there should at least be an option to turn it off.

Other than that this demo actually made me look forward to FFXV again, after I've been extremely critical of it after the Duscae demo, which was just messy and had many weird design decisions. Good job SE.

EDIT: Looks like this is not the popular opinion haha

You can be an alligator monster and can summon OP glowing ball showers. What's not to love

EDIT2: How could I forget, the MUSIC was the highlight of the demo. Just fantastic.

That was a terrible way to entice people into the game. It was way less of a game demo and more of a tech demo. "LOOK AT ALL THESE EFFECT IN REAL TIME!". It's not exciting in any way.

I can't say the performance was any better than Duscae, but I think the res is higher (or they dialed down the annoying post-processing).

The gameplay looked lackluster in the trailers and the footage of duscae but wow, if the battles aren't significantly better in the final version it is going to be a monotonous 50 hours. The demo felt like a big budget vita title despite moments of impressive presentation. They should either move further towards gameplay akin to KOTOR which removes the need to hold buttons or mess around with the camera or revert back to an improved version of the battle systems seen in FF 7-10.

I can see how this will turn people off because you're playing a kid and it's not cool/awesome/exciting enough, but I think it showed a side of FF XV that none of the footage before did, and I quite liked that.

Hmmm I'm not feeling this at all.I'm hoping the full game will redeem itself for me.Its only a demo,so I'll give it a chance. But it doesn't feel or look right

I just started and had to pause it immediately to say I fucking looooove the opening track of the demo where Noctis wakes up.

This game is gonna have the best soundtrack.

Man, the game needs motion blur during gameplay so badly. Would really help smooth out the dips and provide a more cinematic look.

The lighting remains insanely good - perhaps some of the best I've ever seen - but the performance is not good enough on PS4.

Alright. I liked the fantasy locales and it was cool to see the engine go through all the lighting and weather changes without really chugging (but not really breezing either). I was hoping to get a sense of the real game though, like a vertical slice from the middle of the game instead of a handful of play areas. Artwork/direction is great.

They really need to fix the technical issues if I'm to bother with the full game. Constant stuttering and a lot of aliasing are my biggest concerns. Felt really janky.

Enjoyed demo but ps4 framerate is still garbage!

Maintaining a frame rate of 30fps is their objective. This has not been completely optimized as of yet, as there are times where it breaks 30. They will continue making adjustments until the last minute before the game goes gold. If they’re unable to fixate on the 30fps, they will do something different.

Looking forward to the visual downgrade.

It's great. Very Kingdom Hearts.

The track for the second area really reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, which the whole thing is obviously a big reference to.

Duscae players know the combat is already significantly beyond what's in this demo. Not that Duscae combat was perfect, but you can already see how it's far beyond this "hold O for simple sword strikes" combat. I have no doubt the full game will layer in many additional attacks and we'll have our plate full of combat possibilities at any given moment.

This demo isn't doing SE any favours explaining that, though. You know there are hundreds of people who are going to play this and come away thinking "it's like Kingdom Hearts, but more boring and with even simpler hold button to autobattle"

Yeah it's interesting. I hope they can touch up the IQ a bit before release. But man, that lighting is amazing.

How can you unlock those locked plates? And what's the point of collecting those orbs?

Finished the demo but restarting it doesn't seem to change anything.

Played it twice, first time I only got 248 orbs and figured gold plates must be unlocked at 250, so I did it again and got 300 something lol. I apparently missed a few areas in the giant room. Got both weapon upgrades and all the magic, though, and tried out all the different cars and animals.

Gotta say, driving was even worse than it is in Far Cry. Which is saying a lot. Being the animals was kind of cool, but the gator thing's attack almost always missed because the enemy would go just out of range. Grrr.

I don't mind the combat changes, although it didn't seem quite as smooth as Duscae. Also, so many framerate drops! Reallllllly hope they can iron those out before September...

You can unlock silver plates at 100 orbs, gold plates at 250 orbs, and the platinum plate once you beat the final enemy. Gold plates are in the third area and give you a new magic attack and reset enemy spawns, silver was in second and was...cars, maybe?

Well, the game looks good and the music is still phenomenal, but they've made the combat even worse by doubling down on the "hold button to combo/defend" mechanic. At least in Duscae there was some level of depth with how you could cancel into different types of attacks, but now it seems like all you do is hold circle and switch weapons with the d-pad? It almost feels like one big QTE. I wish they'd just go all out and copy Kingdom Hearts instead of this current system, but it seems like they've made up their minds.

Trying to parry or block that golem was a pain in the ass, I was awful at it. Died numerous times, nor could I get the warp thing to work right, then it just didn't want to work anymore period. Game looks engaging though, I don't think this demo does the full game a lot favours however.

This is my first time actually paying attention to this game since it was announced.
(I've never been a fan of Final Fantasy apart from 1&2.)

The game looks great, runs kinda slow, and makes me feel like an idiot.
Is the giant supposed to be wrecking me every fucking minute? Because HOLY SHIT do I suck. Am I not blocking well enough? And the QTE prompts aren't working when pressed?
Man, this game makes me feel like a moron. lol

Still, I'm kinda excited about this. If the framerate is fixed and some AA is added, this is a definite purchase for me. Guess I gotta get good.

Also AIMING SUCKS. Holy shit, they didn't even try.

Eh? You don't have to hold the button, you can just time your presses like normal.

I have all the same greviances as you, those QTEs remain unactivated and the golem shits all over you.

Defending/dodging definitely felt worse in this than Duscae. Overall it definitely felt very KHish, but done kind of poorly. That said I still enjoyed it and I know from Duscae and other videos there's a lot more depth than this demo showed, and I do think they'll polish it up a bit better by its release.

Oh, also warping felt clumsier.

Just finished this and I'm not even sure what the fuck just happened. It's the ultimate marriage of bad controls, terrible combat, a remarkably unappealing protagonist (I love when the game acts like he's a badass with the music when he turns into his adult self, when he looks utterly like a shitbag) and is just incomprehensibly dull to play. Oh, and on ps4 it runs like ass.

Who on earth thought this demo was a good idea? They unsold me on it so hard
