Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

i don't get the Soccer Ball "?" part. Was it just to show the physics when you make contact with a object? I felt the blocks in the second area did that quite fine. Also has anyone got to the top where Carbuncle was in the second area? Almost made it till my block collapsed.

People here are making generalizations about the full game based on a demo (with content that's not even in the full game), so I figure that's fair game.

That is kind of the point of a demo?

I thought it was awful, both as a demonstration and a game.

Performance seemed bad.
Graphical effects like the hair were jarring
It had an annoying mascot creature
It had you collecting gems like a f2p mobile title
Combat made me wish it was KH1 so things would be more fluid and the camera would be better
The environments were bland and lifeless
The music was excellent

I don't know what they were trying to do here.

This thing has 5 stars on PSN.

I contributed, fantastic demo. Criticism isn't really fair in this thread when obviously everybody wanted some hybrid Witcher3/Bloodborne gameplay. It is not, it's FFXV and it plays great for what it is.

Seems 1080p to me. But with poor AA and Vaseline filter or something (FXAA?).

IQ wasn't that horrendous, nor was framerate (should be OK at launch).

Edit: definitely 1080p and a noticeable jump over duscae 2.0 for me.

Looks sub HD to me. Could it be a dynamic resolution ?

Final games framerate is gonna be just as dreadful isn't it?

Can already see the PS4K comparison vid that will give me a rage headache.

A lot of people just want it to be more intuitively responsive. The reason people cite games like those is because while they have animation commitments for attacks (Witcher less so), they address character agency during combat animations in an effective manner that makes for and engaging and strategic combat experience.

I don't think anybody wants that gameplay, but they want that sense of connection with the buttons you press/hold and the actions you take and your character's ability to respond to that. As it is now, it just feels really underwhelming and that click of satisfaction just is not there yet.

Been reading thru the impressions in this thread and I'm really surprised. Isn't XV supposed to be the game that restores Final Fantasy's reputation post FFXIII?
Sounds like this won't be the entry that does it.

Image quality is really kinda messy. FPS drops into the ground when fighting the iron giant sometimes.

Also I named the carbuncle Stella.
No regrets.

Which is my point with dynamic. Some screens seems to be clean, others seems to be subnative res. If this is 1080p:

Then SE is doing something wrong.

Remember attack/defend in a FF game is as repetitive as it can be. They obviously wanted you to make proper decisions in combat rather than mash buttons.
I am with you on the responsiveness though, could be better, it's worse than Witcher3 pre alternative movement patch.

I managed to get stuck in the demo. Couldn't get past the pool and the jumping in bit the critter wouldn't move for some reason.

I don't think this demo is much of a reflection of the final product. Anyone put off will just wait for the reviews, if the game turns out good, this demo will be forgotten pretty quickly.

Played both demos and I can say the combat in duscae is much more fun but still loved the last part of the platinum demo, collected all weapons and all magic, the magic was very impressive. Took an hour to collect and do everything in the demo.

I thought Duscae was awful. Poor performance, subpar Gameplay, bad AI etc. I gave it the benefit of the doubt because it was a very old build. But this one is still shit. I probably won't skip it, never skipped new numbered FF, but it looks disappointing.

They are using a really terrible post-process solution for the game. Duscae felt the same to me. This one looks much more sharper in detail than Duscae.

This is my biggest complaint. Anyone else feeling this way or has my coffee cream gone off?

There's definitely some bizzare stuff going between the framerate hitches and camera issues. Actually had to take a break for a bit despite the demo being incredibly short. Definitely not just you.

Edit: wow mobile autocorrect really butchered that apologies.

As someone who had no interest in this game going into the demo.... I left feeling even more lethargic than before hand.

If this game was supposed to sell me on the story, character, combat, or anything but the graphics... it failed spectacularly.

A shame really, because the CGI movie announcement got me interested enough to even try the demo (and the first episode of the anime wasn't too bad either)... but if this is what I have to expect from the final game...

Just finished demo - thought it was quite nice for what it was. Pretty (Altissia!), fun to poke around, carbuncle is a bro. Folks seem to have been expecting a full functionality battle demo, which yes, I can see that being disappointing.

Final Fantasy XIV was that game.

Yeah can last longer if you explore the environments to find all the gems.

Because FF is apparently now spyro the fucking dragon.

The gems just felt like a guidance system to drive you from location to location and encourage exploration. I didn't mind it as much as all the performance issues.

I haven't played any FFXV content for now (Episode Duscae or others beta things), and damn. That's amazing. I was scared sometimes about how the game would play, but... I'm really satisfied.
The fact to use a "tech demo" gameplay (with these plates) to show you game content is a very good idea for me.

These ~3Gb are definitively constituting a true collector element that any FF fan should keep on their PS4 HDD, this make me think to P.T (speaking of this, is the demo planned to be deleted of the PS Store ?).

Some gameplay thoughts :
- I would prefer a more dynamic way to attack. I think I will need to wait FF7R to see the CC2's work.
- Now, I understand why Sony want a PS4K. I really hope to see a PC version of the game. This tech demo is one of the most beautiful thing I saw running on my PS4. I can even hear the PS4 screaming while playing the demo (honestly, dear Square, keep the game as it is, I don't give a f**k about framerate issues, or add some graphical settings if you want).
- The noise that the boy is making while attacking enemies is REALLY annoying. I'm not that annoyed by the Carbuncle noises, but I hope to hear less onomatopoeias in the final game (generally I'm a big fan of this sort of "cute" sound design, like in LocoRoco or what I saw in The Last Guardian (speaking of Trico noises). But these boy sounds are really annoying). Despite this, musics are just fantastic.
- Level/City design... Oh My God. Before playing this, I thought that Mirror's Edge Catalyst would be my Level Design Of The Year. But I just found a new contender. I had some Ape Escape 2 feelings playing the city level (the one just after the room level).
- I don't really like the vehicle handling for now. I hope the black car will be funnier to use, because actually there is no accelerations feelings, or suspensions, etc... (speaking of the toy truck you can use in the room level).
- Oh and, yeah, the gems. Not a cool idea. At all. I don't know a lot of things about FFXV, but I hope these things aren't in the final game.

Well, I think FFXV is ready to be Day 0 for me.

I enjoyed it for what it was to be honest. A very brief little bonus to tie over anyone who's been waiting for it all this time, I don't get why they say it was to target new players since it does an awful job at representing the game for them. Still, it was nice to get my hands on the magic system even if it's a very bare taste. I definitely prefer the combat system to what we had in the original duscae demo (still haven't gotten around to trying 2.0) and the few teasers of what's to come in the main game were pretty cool.

I'm gonna have a little mess around with it later and see what else is to be found out there rather than just hurrying onward to the Iron Giant. It could have performed better is my only real complaint since I only went in expecting a very small tech demo.

Jesus christ.

Combat is really limited in this demo. It wasn't the point. The point is to introduce FFXV story by an artistic point of view (a dream Noctis did when he was a child...), they aren't using it to demonstrate complex gameplay.

But then, people are saying it's not a good action RPG (it's not an action RPG at all, guys), it's not responsive, it's automated... And yes, it is. It is FFXV, a game in a series where you were using a menu to control your characters in the past games. Here, there is no menu, but everything is the same, you choose what you are doing, you aren't really playing the actions themselves. If you want a different game, go in a different genre. That's why I hated every whiners about FFXV becoming an action game. It is not one, more so since Tabata got his hands on it.

Played the demo in 37 minutes. First time i played this game and I didn't like it except the battle at the end which wasn't anything special but at least it showed me that maybe i could like the final game.

Those gems are a terrible idea.I can explore the world just fine by my own without some shiny things showing me the way.

I think they should make the first demo available for everyone because that seemed a lot more interesting than this.

I am not sure that this demo will convince many people to buy the game.

Sounds like this won't be the entry that does it.

As someone who enjoyed XIII, the schadenfreude is palpable here.

People raged out over XIII so hard they had to build up XV in their minds as the savior of FF... when in fact it is, and was, just another FF game.

I don't doubt it will be decent, and I will probably play it, but the bro-metal characters, lifeless environments, and seemingly linear/boring story are definitely not doing it for me currently.

I played just a little of the first demo and thought it was okay, so I'm interested in trying out this demo once I get home later today.

This explains the blurryness... but the jaggies ?
I don't have an answer to your question because I am not the developer, obviously. But I liked what I played and saw. Now if your theory holds and the resolution is dynamic, that would be certainly an interesting turn of event. If this leads to stable 30 fps, no issue for me.

It isn't dynamic. I don't see the game being 1080p when you don't move and less than that when you move, it's silly and frankly absurd. But I think terribad motion blur coupled with an horrendous AA solution is the culprit here.

Can someone with experience from the previous demo explain some of the strategies and combos in XV's combat system? I've been testing with the Iron Golem repeatedly but nothing seems to work as I would expect it to.

Tap Square to dodge does absolutely nothing. I'm getting hit by attacks that aren't even remotely connecting to the character. There also seem to be no i-frames.

Holding Square to defend works sometimes but it leaves Noct in a weird unresponsive state for about 2 seconds. Tried switching weapons, attacking, teleporting but you are just stuck in something like a recovery animation. Any way to avoid this?

Using Triangle to teleport to the Golem seems like a bad idea as I have to defend immediately without attacking otherwise I'll get smacked. Tried using multiple teleport points to get to the Golem's back but his attacks hit even while sticking to the back.

I found the fastest and most reliable way to kill him was holding Circle while having the great sword equipped (he staggers every 3-4 hits). That can't be it, right?

warpping to the enemy from far distance while eqipping Broadsword will stagger him in mid air change your weapon and do some combo in mid combo move L3 will do air flips and airial dodges , I'm dodging his attacks with warping more useful than normal roll :) .

hint: change the Lock-on button from R3 to R1 that will make your life easier

I haven't played it yet, but I did watch some of the demo online and Carbuncle is bothering me a bit. The text messages he sends don't seem to really match up with the character of screen. The messages seem to be bubbly and energetic, while actual character just stands there pretty emotionless.

I know that since animals don't have human faces, they don't emote the same way, they they can still show signs of life. Carbuncle being so animated kinda makes a pretty big disconnect.
