Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

I get how defend works but how do you parry? When I was defending I kept getting a prompt for O to attack. It's a bit confusing and needed a better tutorial.

Finished up the demo, did not like the delay between attacking and defending at all. Just kept getting wailed on even though I was defending. They should just scrap this shit and make a hack and slash, it's what it wants to be.

That's to initiate a QTE. You can press L1 for Phantom Dodge (or R1, I think it's L1) game is closed at the moment.

Role playing is an unnecessary extra in role playing games

lol

That optional level 15 Iron Giant fight is insane! Those are the kinds of battles that I'm excited to play in the main game. Warp strikes seem real cool.

I purchased the Collector's Edition and still don't have it showing up in my Order History. Ordered it 20 minutes after it went up last nigh. Am I screwed? Curious if I should even bother emailing Square to ask them what the heck is up?
It's ok guys, the real JRPG savior is also coming in 2016
Persona 5

This demo was bad.
Agreed. Demo did nothing for me.

For some reason I thought I was a girl up until I transformed into a weird looking skinny teenage hot topic guy.

Re. combat I still can't figure out how this could be in development for so long and manage to feel so unpolished and janky.

Looks like a childish kindergarten Kingdom Hearts action platformer and not like a Final Fantasy game. They ruined one of my favorite video game series.

Oh my god this hyperbole.... lol

It is a tech demo!!! This isn't gonna be in the final game...

You know what I am not even gonna try anymore

Just had a bit of a mess around with the Iron Giant fight, fought him some 10-20 times just seeing what I could do in the battle system and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was more in the demo than I thought. The warping up the building seems abuseable, but I'd guess other enemies will be able to counter it easier. Air combos are surprisingly easy to perform with reasonable control so dodging doesn't strip all focus away from the health, mp bar and limit break bar. There was a counter to a grab QTE I missed before too that uses the warp to escape, and while QTE's usually bug me they aren't very frequent at all here. I do wish I could activate Armiger in the middle of an air combo though which I've not found a way to do yet.

Main thing I noticed that gives me some hope though is once you know how to use the battle system there's quite a rift between fighting the Lv1 Iron Giant and the Lv15 one. Sure there's no threat of actually dying at all here, but it did give me some hope that higher level enemies could actually prove challenging whereas in Duscae it felt a lot less relevant, probably due to being heavily condensed.

The only thing bugging me is we never truly get to test the combat system until that last fight. I'd really like to test it out instead in Duscae where I can fight larger groups of enemies and a more challenging boss. I know it won't happen, but I'm itching for a Duscae 3.0 made public for everyone to try a better version. It's definitely a better combat system than before but I don't feel like I'm getting a very good opportunity to test it out here.

Seriously...

I continue to be worried about how this will turn out. Which makes me sad because I grew up as a FF fanboy and was hoping this would be a return to form after the disastrous XIII trilogy. But the more I see and play of this, the more I see it being a disappointment. I dunno, hope I'm wrong.

gimmick for the demo.

This whole demo is totally separate from the game.

making its existence all the more mystifying

a demo is supposed to be a proof of concept of the game in order to sell you on it

all I know after playing the demo is I hated it, and while I'm willing to accept that maybe the full game is totally different and good somehow, the demo did nothing to help.

Do you mean triangle/Y?

Do you have any idea what that is in reference too or are you just throwing it out like you can make a quick dig at me?

Gonna assume the later.

*rolls eyes*

Back on topic, I really liked the demo, aside from the crappy performance. If they sort that out then I'll be happy.

I'm curious with this newfound mobility how it would've been in duscae with the large mob of soldiers. But yeah I'm glad you also found the air mobility impressive! Those two hidden weapons at the top im sure a lot of people missed it. I feel some are playing this like dark souls in the sense of holding guard (shield) and just waiting to attack.

*rolls eyes*

*ignores*

If you can't converse without trying to take cheap shots don't bother.

This game wants to be an action, platforming and hack & slash game, yet has hold one button to attack combat and clunky ass hell defense system. It plays like crap in the demo and is hardly an RPG if it's still trying to be one.

Fair points.

I think they shold have not released anything at all or done another update to Duscae and make it free for people.

RPG demos are always pretty tough. But to your second point, I have said this in other threads, but it seems as a whole most people enjoyed it! Not saying your opinion is wrong or anything just that it seems the more negative opinions are in the minority. So the demo is clicking with a lot of people so it is doing something right.

In the end though all that matters is how the game itself will be. This demo will be forgotten in 6 months

God the framerate and camera are still fucking awful after all this time what gives SE?

Now the combat itself is a lot faster and more fun now that it's more complete. The game also seems to look a lot better than the last time we saw it running on ps4.

Demo didn't do much for me. It looked kinda nice at points but the choppiness of the frame rate hurt. In some ways I was more impressed with the visuals seen in the FF XIII demo so many years ago (yeah I'm probably blind or something). The combat has a sluggishness to it that I find unappealing. I'm getting the game for sure, but I am not particularly hyped.

I think that instead of wanting to share negative opinions, most of the people who aren't coming away positive off this demo have probably just lost interest completely.

They are probably not in the final game. You need X amount to unlock those pads.

Hmm must have missed some in the first section then as couldn't get the pad hidden in the books by the chair on the left to unlock. Oh yea assume they won't be but thought I read that collecting them in the demo unlocks something in the full game.

Really enjoyed the demo—these hyperbolic gaf reviews definitely aren't warranted.

Environments were great—LOVED the giant room. Music is top-notch as expected.

As far as kid Noctis' combat, pacing felt good enough. Combo three sword hits, switch to hammer, dodge/guard when needed.

Overall, aside from the last boss, I don't think it's meant to be taken too seriously. I mean you drive around in toy cars collecting crystals... Just soak in the music and visuals.

Played the demo and this was probably the weirdest way i could imagine someone market a Final Fantasy game.
Even if you factor in the dreamscape idea, having half the demo jumping around toy blocks in a giant living room is... not what i expected, for better or worse.

Didn't try Duscae, so this was first foray in FFXV.
The combat was kind of shitty with kid Noctis, but when they give you the warp ability, it did get a little better.
I'd be excited for the game, if i didn't have to wait a (likely) extra year for the PC version.
The IQ and framerate were just too bad.

I expected the worse, reading these comments

But it wasn't even that bad.

The graphics looked great, the framerate drops were there but they weren't unbearable, and the combat is also an improvement from Duscae, the button input weren't as precise but demos right? I will admit that asking you if you want to order was a bit obnoxious.

I have a feeling most of hate is stemming from the fact this demo is not an open world demo like duscae was.I think releasing Duscae demo with the improve combat to the world would have been a better option.

I have faith that Square Enix will hopefully iron out these problems before release date, it's not like they're going to sit on their ass all seven months.

I've played through the Duscae demo twice, once for each version and found the 2nd play through more enjoyable. Took a bit to get used to all the combat controls/camera/etc, but once I did I thought it was pretty solid. Downloaded the demo last night before bed so I can give this one a crack when I get home.

Side question, whats the best way to get screen grabs off the PS4? Right now I share em to my facebook but they don't look so good compared to what I see in game.

Anyways, I liked the Duscae demo a lot more but it had a much bigger scope then the Platinum demo. The writing and VO is still a little umm not great but maybe I need to play the full game to get used to it.

I do like the core gameplay, I assume in the full game these will have stats on them?

Small question: for people who played earlier demos, is the camera in this...better than what used to be in older builds?

Because holy shit it's pretty bad when combat happens.
