Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Demo did not impress me, didn't look spectacular and the combat system was poor. I know the combat is better than what is shown in the demo, but what I played was awful. Disappointed tbh.

I hope the people that got disappointed by the combat realize that this demo is missing:
-weapon variety
-weapon skills
-party commands / team-up attacks
-quick warps, perfect-timed evasions, armiger manouvres

Sure control weren't well responsive and they didn't put any form of tutorial for the last battle, but please don't judge the final combat system based on this demo!

For the demo itself, it wasn't bad: you get a basic grasp of movement and exploration, combat, the more fantastical elements of the game and the tech that supports it.
They could have chosen something more closer to the game itself, but i like it's experimental nature.

Just hope that people won't change their purchase decision based on a tech demo.

SE has no one to blame but themselves though. It's their game to sell. Seems like this demo does a poor job selling it, tech showcase or not.

I didn't not mention the camera so close to the character that you almost get motion sickness from it.

Camera was even closer in Duscae, when you fight as adult Noctis it's not really close IMO at least that's how I feel.

Demo was boring. Should I still play through Duscae 2.0? I have FF-0 lying around unopened.

Driving mechanics are terrible too. Lol.

You could go play it and enjoy the party banter but I believe you will end up hating it as well. All I can say is try it.

Camera is mostly fine.
It gets weird when you're too close to some objects tho. I was pushing blocks in the dining room where you're tiny and the camera would spaz out every now and again.

Attempting to log hundreds of hours of play time
You misunderstand. I thought it was funny that there is a playtime counter on the title screen with 000:00:00, as if anyone would ever reach that number of hours on this demo. It made me think it would have incredible replay value when I first saw the clock.

It would actually be a good tutorial for how to play the iron giant fight in platinum. Very different feel than the little noctis part too. Can't hurt....

Oh yeah. What was that Armiger or something? I pressed L1 and R1 down, Noctis started to shimmer like a Twilight unvampire and nothing happened.

when you attack w/ armiger active you do extra warps, and phantom weapons continuously fall on the enemy. Also powers up warp strike. But doesn't last that long....

Did you uh.. Start attacking? He uses a lot of weapons to attack at once rather than just one. Hard to miss. Doesn't last too long though. Definitely long enough to get a few combos in though.

deals loads of damage. I thought it was awesome.

This demo has been my first hands-on experience with FFXV and this is the first thing I noticed. Especially when jumping.

Among other things I don't think this FF is for me.

Yeah sure no way i'm defending that, but i think there has been a misunderstanding in the perception on what this demo is, both from SE and the public.

To be fair only those who follow the game religiously know what's going on. So I can't really defend people being mad. For instance last night when the SE guy presented the demo he said this wasn't part of the main game and was made to be different. Thing is for the casually interested it backfired and doubt many heard what he said.

Oh! I was too far away then. I think I ran into a bug. I pressed the buttons down, the gauge started to go down and when it was halfway done the Giant got to me, but I didn't attack. I just shimmered and took a hit.

If anything what is clear is that they try to insist on the universe, the setting of the story and the relation between Noctis and his father. I'm ok with that, but that's not what I'm waiting from a demo of a game that we are all waiting since 2006. Show me some FF, show me some magic, some intense fight, some killer cutscenes, some high and color characters... You can't ask me to be pleased about a piece of dream sequence, slow fighting and a clear lack of finition and details.

I think what you and many others wanted was a specific segment of the game cut up and ending with massive tease for more to come, I can see that leaving you hyped up.

When it comes to yesterday's Trailer I'm glad they didn't go full spoiler mode.

When it comes to me I'm happy since I got to see first hand how the combat has evolved and I have general idea of what to expect. Of course I'm just speaking for myself.

Just finished the demo.

Left a horrible impression.

Have not played the previous demo or finished a FF since X - so I´m not that deep into FF anymore, but...

The entire time playing I was like "what?"

Graphics are bad, camera is bad, controls are bad, fighting is bad, voice acting is cringe-worthy.

Overall super janky.

This does not feel or look like a game from 2016.

Good luck selling 10 million copies of this...

I find this kind of statement rather silly.

This makes sense and they should've put it in a large, bold font at the title screen. Would've not known otherwise, thanks.

I'm not a fan of the button holding. Would rather have them let us press a button and do it all automatically until we manually cancel it or do another action.

Sigh. Just commit to one type of combat and stop with this hybrid stuff. It's godawful. Doesn't feel rewarding or involving on a tactical or skill level; all flash, no substance. Can Final Fantasy just be a series of albums and the occasional MMO for people who dig that stuff?

The demo isn't that big, but I kind of liked it. Too bad the framerate is shit, which makes the game feel clunkier than it needs to be. I like the weapon switching during combat. The environments look nice but I hope they are full with peolple, creatures and interesting things to do in the final game.

I see. I guess using armiger helps too? I only used it once on my last playthrough but didn't really get what was going on.

I haven't used armiger yet, so I gotta see how it works. I just noticed that the greatsword? Or whatever is called I think it steals MP for you and if you hold the analog down and attack Noctis does a spinning attack.

Giving it another play and unlocking the hidden weapons, while experimenting more with the combat in the final area I'm enjoying it more. Guarding with the shield actually feels pretty satisfying and learning how to use the dodge function better makes it more interesting. I still think it has serious problems, mainly in the area of responsiveness. Noctis' animations feel sluggish and awkward and switching from attack to defense stance when necessary can seem finnicky, as can tapping the dodge button.

The game doesn't do much either to indicate the level of control you have over your actions. There's no real way to learn much of what you can do other than through pure experimentation, and weapons being hidden away means even fewer people will see the full range of the small number of options the demo gives you.

I think the gameplay here could be good but it doesn't do much to show off the good parts of what it has, which is going to turn people off especially when it plays very differently from pretty much any other action rpg.

You need to play more games because It is aceragem at best.

But what put me of the game was really bad combat system.

Can you name a game that looks substantially better? For me, it looked about on par(maybe slightly less) with witcher 3, and I still haven't seen a game that ivenfound more aesthetically pleasing.

Gameplay is really hit or miss. When it clicks, I found it a lot of fun though :x

On par with the witcher 3!???

I mean WHAT!?

There is no base for discussion here.

I'm really hoping this turns out good as it's the first FF to spark my interest since IX. The open world and scale of XV plays big role in that as the more linear direction of X was the reason I began to lose interest in the series. In some way I see this as a callback to PS1 era FF, especially FF8 (fantasy based on reality) which also happens to be my favourite FF.

I'm loving the world and characters they've created with XV but the combat videos has yet to ignite my latent love for FF. Personally I'd feel more at home with turn based combat along with the technical flare today's tech could deliver on that front. Now I know that might be an unpopular opinion, but to successfully anticipate a logical course of action while in control of all characters in a tough fight is simply rewarding as heck.

So, how are you FF8 fans feeling after Duscae and Platinum, is that old familiar feeling there at least to some degree?

Also, I can't believe that a thick pair of nostalgia goggles is the only reasoning for my opinion. I think RPG's in it's core should be more about strategy and planning rather than reaction time and motor skills.

Thoughts?

Are we playing the same thing? It's not quite that level, but it's not like comparing witcher 3 to dragon age origins(random early ps3 game that came to mind). It looks good. There are some frame rate issues, but I find it a really good looking game. One of the best.

I personally really enjoy the aesthetic and find it very lovely :x

I have to admit that I'm jelly of all of you who has played the demo already. I won't get my hands on it until tomorrow afternoon because of work.

As for the impressions I read on this last page, well...

I'm not calling any of you a liar and I know you're just stating your opinion but I know Gaf. Once the negative train leaves the station and picks up momentum it's hard to tell who's being sincere and logical.

Can anyone point me towards an in depth and spoiler free impression without any hyper whatever in it?

I tried to go out of bounds but it wouldnt let me. I also had to restart the demo as even after being grounded the glitch persisted.

They learned their lesson with the whole Titan stuff back in Duscae. :v

Consider it a very short demo showing off the lighting, physics and weather systems, and some of the combat. Nothing in this demo will be in the final game when it comes to plot. It has some simple combat with kid Noctis and a boss battle as adult Noctis which relies on you knowing how to use the Warping. I spent 40 minutes in the demo. Fought the boss battle twice.

The new controls/battle system takes a while to get used to. It feels different than the one in Duscae, which led me to make lots of mistakes.

Don't expect too much.

I don´t. Nothing here feels or looks modern.

The animation looks pretty modern to me. Shits on most games imo. But yh it doesn't run very well at all , they need to optimise the hell out of this.

Even aside from the dream sequence the aerial combat really reminds me of KH, I was disappointed I couldn't zip about like this in Duscae

I liked the demo. Tech & animations are great, fighting is good [I did not played Duscae].

There are some framerate issues, but they were not severe. Since game is still a ways off, they have time to polish it.

One?

The Division looks way better
Tomb Raider looks better
MGSV looks better
Bloodborne looks better
The Order looks way better
FarCry Primal looks better

BTW The Witcher 3 is way better

I can go on... what looks good in FFXV?

Yeah, I don't typically notice IQ stuff, so I'll take others' word that it's bad. Animation, lighting, and materials all look fantastic though.
