Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

This will be the first main-numbered Final Fantasy I skip out on. The first demo didn't wow me and this one did nothing to change my mind.

I'm also over open world games like nobody's business.

I think the hyperbole about this demo is out of control. I just finished it and it's a nice tech demo that just gives you the smallest taste of what the environments and lighting are going to be like. The whining about the frame rate and graphics is way, way out of proportion.

Square/Enix would have done well to market this as a tech demo and not representative of the experience as a whole, though.

I'm enjoying the demo and I think the hyperbole is way too much, but the frame rate during that fight is just bad. But 7 months is long time

pretty sure it'd altleast stay up until launch so you'd be good

they haven't said anything so I dont think it'd dissapear quickly

You should be able to buy it on the webstore and then unless SE nukes it a la PT (which I doubt they will do) even if it's delisted you'll be able to download it when you get to your PS4.
Nice. I guess I'll pick it up on the webstore just in case then. Thanks!

It's just a tech demo, man. You're supposed to see some big guy swinging a big sword. They don't give you many abilities and he's not all that strong. It's just a basic thing in a generic arena. I think they totally biffed it by not explicitly calling this out for what it is - just a showcase for the environmental and lighting effects and *very* light combat.

So you are saying the full game will control and feel completely different? Somehow I'm not buying that.

I haven't played the other demo, so I don't really have a point of comparison. But I felt like I got a pretty good idea of what the full game will feel like. That said, this is probably coming from a perspective of somebody who was never going to like this battle system. I just hoped it would at least be smooth.

There was a limit yes, but it's quite high enough.

Anyway, to me, I'm not impressed at all. I don't care about IQ for console games, I did not for Halo 5 but at least Halo 5's gameplay was R.A.D.

Clearly, FFXV isn't from this demo and duscae 2.0, the gameplay look very far from what I expected. You have to hold to perform a combo ? The great thing about doing combo is actually to push the button, if you don't have to, what's the point ? Timing ? It's also automatic.

Ennemies barely moving when you hit them ? Nope. The boss looked like it felt nothing, at least make it move a little. There's no feeling, no feedback...

Dude what is the differnece between push the button to perform a combo and mashing the same button to perform a combo it's nearly the same thing and both not that great .... Kingdom Hearts for example it's awesome because you combined your abilites with button mash combo not for the button mashing and that goes for FF XV too with push button to perform combo in mid combo you can vary between your weapons and magic to perform your combo I think every weapon has unique style from what I have seen at least aside from the party attacks

Probably not - but I don't think the controls are all that bad to be honest. There's some lag time between input and execution but it's like that with almost every RPG. These aren't twitch games. I can cut an RPG some slack with controls.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm not a Final Fantasy fan-boy in the slightest. The last Final Fantasy I finished was FFIX (several times...) so I'm not a Final Fantasy white knight defender or anything.

I don't think they called it a tech demo when they revealed it last night though, did they? A lot of people that are downloading it don't follow the other info on the game and just saw the event last night so they don't realize it's just a tech demo.

They mentioned it was "not in the game". But direct quote:

"And Try the Combat of Today"

That is probably where I'm disappointed. I feel if you want a combat system like this, you should really go full action. Otherwise it just sort of sits awkwardly in between.

Anyway, will see what the full game brings. Who are we are all kidding, we are buying it anyway.

The hyperbole in the thread is really entertaining.

Anyway, I think it's a fun little demo. Using the actual game's assets to create a short prequel experience is an interesting idea that we've seen with things like Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, but it seems like this is more of a technical showcase. The sheer amount of visual effects going on at the same time is absurd and I'm honestly surprised that even runs at a semi-stable framerate on PS4. I really love the lighting, especially during the night with rainfall. I absolutely cannot agree with the sentiment that this game looks bad. The graphics on display here—in an unoptimized state—are amazing. LOD scaling is normal and if you're looking for distant, low-detail objects you're going to find them, no doubt in a game handling as many layers of effects as this.

The battle system feels pretty nice once you grasp the controls. They don't tell you all of the different attacks you can perform, so I think that's the main issue with the demo. There's more actions available than what's displayed on-screen, and I'm sure with a proper tutorial it'll make more sense to the majority of players. Warping, air dodging, charge attacks, it's all good stuff in my book. Also Carbuncle was adorable and I want to know how it'll be featured in the full game.

That's very true and quite fair. As far as I know, Tabata only stated that combat wasn't the main focus of the demo in an ATR. In fact for a while, people were afraid there would be no combat at all because of his comments! But the average gamer isn't going to be aware of a single comment in an ATR only extreme enthusiasts were watching.

Same here. (save for XIV) Not feeling the combat at all and the main cast is pretty abrasive from everything I've seen. I doubt the story would carry me through if that's any good.

That said, I can only imagine those calling this game ugly had set their expectations too high going in. It's not mindblowing, but it looks good and ran fine throughout the demo in my opinion.

Is this the combat that FFVII remake is going to have?

The problem is that S-E cause their own headaches.

They could have easily taken out a small finished/optimized environment from the game, put in a few enemies and made a short battle demonstration demo against a few different enemy types. It would have been better recieved by the masses i think and been more representative of the final game.

Instead, they make a bizarre KH-lite semi-vertical slice, with poor implementation of the games core mechanics and make it public.

Regardless of if some people are being overly critical or not, they should not putting out a highly advertised public demo straight after a gigantic marketing event that is flawed and janky to a noticeable extent.

Why not wait until after E3 or Gamescom, closer to launch and more polished....

God I hope not. Chopping it up into multiple releases dampened my hype, but I was still planning on buying it when I could purchase the complete game. If it has this combat then I'm probably out completely.

No, this information was revealed like... the day it was announced
Thanks... I almost had a heart attack.

No you will not be getting the same combat system on a remake with higher production values than the original.
Expect kingdom hearts style combat just from looking at it and it will be awesome.
Hype dying again :(

Maybe it is impossible to SE do something right... I'm expecting too much I guess.

Is this the combat that FFVII remake is going to have?

No, FF15 has kingdom hearts like combat but FF7Remake is straight up kindgom hearts.

Just looking at the HUD

Lots of discussion of it earlier in the thread. I found it quite nice once I got used to the updated controls. Perfect dodges, warp-strike into air combo, staggering giant with shield, shuriken attacks, all felt good and responsive.

But no question it needs a tutorial or something, particularly for people who didn't play Duscae.

And of course it's not going to be for everyone.

Duscae had a tutorial which was needed here again. I mean you can't go in assuming everyone had played Duscae or bought type-0. In that regard they failed.

Yeah, that honestly was the most jarring for me. With them switching the controls since Duscae too it took me a bit to get used to it. Going to play further after work to get more used to it.

Uhhhh wow...I just got home and I'm playing the demo now and what the are some of you smoking?! It's like one of the least offensive demos I've ever played and you guys expect it to be something that it totally isn't.

On top of that, I'm having zero frame drops so far...maybe it stutters in the future. Haven't beaten it just yet.

camera is really responsive and controls feel good albeit more on the animation priority side.

So far it looks great too. Like really great.

played the demo for about 45 min... the engine is beautiful. and the weather and lighting is awesome looking....
not sure if i just didnt understand it.. but the battle system at the end just wasnt that fun... plus the camera is really worrysome. i guess i just suck as dodgeing or something, but i just didnt feel badass or particularly find it awesome... the game just feels like its gonna get old real quick... i realllllllllllly hope there is a lot of AI options for the other 3 characters... maybe like gambits or something,

i wish they would have not kingdom hearts the battle system, it works for that game... im sure it will be more complex but im still worried... the game looks amazing though. i also didnt like the controls... glad you can change them i like attack on r1 not O

Gotta ask this question since I've been kind of thinking it all day. Any disappointment aside are those some of the best shaders we've seen in use on consoles so far?

I know the IQ ruins it to a degree but there were certain things that stuck out as amazing to me earlier. Particularly the cups on the table in the car room at night time in the candlelight. Definitely feeling that this and the lighting/reflections are the core of their performance woes. Behind the blurry veil there's some high end stuff happening by the looks of it IMO.

Can anyone download it or do I have to have bought that other final fantasy game to download (like duscae)?

Lol you poor souls. World of ff and setsuna has turn based

I have to admit, I hadn't seen anything on WoFF outside of the initial announcement and your post got me to Google some gameplay. I thought it was destined to be some Crystal Chronicles shit.

It's on my radar now. If it's a fully fleshed out FF game I'm on board. Thanks for the heads up.

No probs it looks fun gotta spread the love

Was... that supposed to sell me on the game? lol. So awful.

Some of the visuals were good, but who cares when the framerate is ass? Idk man, whatever the hell that was, idk. "Do you want to buy FFXV?" I literally lol'd.

*delete*

This needs to get fixed before the game ships SE

rdBkdy.png

The engine produces the best lighting to date, if they manage to add motion blur and even fxaa it would look amazing.

Please fix this shit SE. 99% of the time it looks like the one on the left, if you manage to screencap at the right moment (when all the nasty jaggies clear away) it looks like the one on the right, but only for a split second....

The same reaction I had when I saw the question lol
