Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Uhhhh wow...I just got home and I'm playing the demo now and what the are some of you smoking?! It's like one of the least offensive demos I've ever played and you guys expect it to be something that it totally isn't.

generally enjoyable?

I mean, this is a demo; it's not going to be as solid as the main game. I understand that, since this isn't my first demo.

But it could at least give me a good baseline for the bare minimum I should expect from the game. Instead, most of what it gave me is stuff that'd make me actively avoid this game if I wasn't already certain that's not what the rest of the game will be like at all. I'm not just talking about the dream-like content; I'm talking about the entire underlying design approach.

This needs to get fixed before the game ships SE

Looks like some kind of temporal AA =/

Just completed the demo on ps4. No frame rate problems. Guys just need something to complain about I guess lol. Reading the comments you'd think the game was unplayable

Demo was cool. If people payed attention, they specifically said this wouldn't be in the final game. It's a tech demo. Treat it as such and you shouldn't be mad lol

You can kill monsters forever to get more orbs...

Framerate is really bad... sorry... that is not subjective.

Man, that trailer is hyping me so much. I still can't believe this game is actually happening.

Here's hoping we'll see more of it at E3. I think it would be great to see the game at least twice a year until its release.

..You do know the game is coming out as episodes? We may be seeing something related to FFVIIR for the next five years.

hows the demo?

It's neat. It's a tech demo that let's you play with time of day and weather while exploring various locations.

It also has a cool battle at the end that let's you try out the current battle system(different from Duscae). It was good getting a chance to get used to the new system. It works well, but I feel the magic targeting/timing is a bit too unforgiving.(I wish there was a slight slowdown when aiming since aiming takes a lot of time and monsters are constantly moving)

There is nothing in the statement that calls it a full blown demo. It is a tech demo at its core, which is my point. Manage your expectations accordingly and don't go in expecting a proper cut vertical slice of the game.
The point is that the final game is very unlikely to look better, same with the performance. Calling it a tech demo just because it's a separate thing that won't be included in the final game isn't accurate imo.
No. That's not really bad.

It is though.

I just beat the demo. The complainers are insane. Only thing I noticed were a few small hitch ups here and there. Everything else was just a fun little demo piece.

I liked it a lot. Felt like a nice blend of kingdom hearts and duscae. I really like the combat now (adult Noctis aka the actual game)

It was just a light fluffy demo to show off some rain and lighting. People need to really relax.

Can't be completely sure about the collectible ones but I'm pretty confident you can get an infinite amount just before the final hallway if you can activate the three switches. One gives you meteorrain (which is so OP it's not even funny), the another one respawns enemies. As you get orbs from defeating enemies, you can basically do this ad nauseum until you get to the maximum amount... theoretically. I couldn't be bothered to test it.

I also beat the demo and it's fun and it's looks great. It's obvious that the models look rough when Noct is small but this is the only time you'll see Noctis small because for tech demo purposes.

Maybe those guys are complaining have got PC graphics eyes and/or are just watching 480p videos in YouTube lol.

Yeah I just said screw it after awhile and just went for the end zone. Fun demo. Was just a little treat.

gunna go watch the anime now.

So is there any specific criteria you have to meet to unlock Carbuncle or do you just have to finish the demo once? Also, do you get anything for collecting all of the crystals/weapons/plates?

Framerate is like 5 fps lower than it needs to be. The game is pretty but it feels sluggish, like it's constantly running at 20 or 25 fps or so. I'm not sure what it's ACTUALLY hitting, heck it could be thirty for all I know, but it sure as fuck doesn't feel or look like it.

Did ya'll get to caress any rusty doors?

Actually mentioning this, when fighting the iron giant one of the barrels rolled by as I got knocked down, I was moving in the direction of it when getting back up and Noctis actually put his hand on the barrel as he got up. I was pretty impressed by that little detail but at the time I couldn't tell if it was intentional or a coincidence.

Just beating the game you'll get him for the full game and no you don't get nothing for collecting everything.

Pretty great lighting engine they got.
Needs motion blur, like, badly and a stable framerate.
Janky jumping physics/animation.
Graphics are hit and miss. Looked nice or even very good at times, while parts of the town with those flat, boxy buildings could look very dated.

Heck, the whole thing felt dated. Felt like a several years old game at times, with the gems lying around showing the way and the pads you step on. Though these are just for the demo, I'd assume. Combat shows some depth, but I thought the whole thing felt unresponsive and clumsy. Small enemies being a chore to clear and the iron giant lacking adequate audio and visual feedback when fought.
I understand it's hard to demo an open world ARPG, but I thought this was pretty bad, sadly, a lot worse than I was expecting.
Finishing the demo and being asked if I wanted to preorder FFXV just as I was thinking they did a pretty awful job at selling people on the game was like the cherry on top.

I really wanted to like a new FF too.
Well, I guess FFVII remake will have to do.

Hm.. just played the demo and I am kinda indifferent about it. Something about the combat feels off. Often I would press the dodge button right before an attack but still get hit (although it wasn't an undodgable attack). I guess you are stuck in attack animation until it's done? I was expecting Noctis to just cancel the attack animation once I press the defend/dodge button, but since it didn't seem to work, it was really difficult to find an opening to actually attack because you need enough time to dodge after that. Am I doing something wrong?

If you were hoping for 60 FPS, I guess? (Or you're on XO? If that's the case, that sucks)

It's holding 29-30 FPS for the vast majority of that video. There are slowdowns in some cutscenes and drops to 27 or so from Fireworks, but "Framerate is really bad"?

I'm just not seeing it. It's not flawless 30+, but it's not low enough that I think 6 mo. of optimization can't fix it.

The game feels incredibly janky with the camera, movement and framerate. I'm wondering if the PC version will make it feel better or if it's the engine. Either way it doesn't feel good right now.

No. The drops are not that bad.
I played it. Yes, they are.

Yeah, must be that, not the bad IQ, dynamic resolution that goes down to 900p or all the aliasing. No sir, all people watching 480p videos on youtube!

The problem is that render time per frame is really inconsistent, the stuttering makes the fps seem worse than it really is.
And it's hard to excuse the Iron Giant fight drops which happen every single time and don't bode well for impressive tussles with bosses.

Beat the demo.

Controls and gameplay certainly need refining. Sluggish is definitely the right word. Definitely will be getting on PC(assuming it happens) to ensure a proper framerate.

Outside of that it was a pretty bad demo if your goal is to sell people on the game.

Following a unicorn dog trying to find your safe space with some bad voice acting thrown in isn't exactly working toward their stated goal of drawing in newcomers to help boost sales IMO. Not when the average gamer is in his 30's and the best selling single player games seem to trend more mature.

take a look at the framepacing.

I don't get it. It's mostly stable throughout, it does dip, but it's mostly stable, and even the lowest dip isn't that low(low twenties). It needs work, sure, but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be.

Of course it is. Check the frametime. While it shows 30fps, there's framepacing issues, which is why it's stuttering.
