Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

They should have just given you all of the tools for combat by the end. Didn't even know there was a shield or shuriken. I ended the demo with fire, small sword and large sword. If you're gonna give us a taste of combat they should make sure they give us as many options as possible easily. Locking stuff to those pads that require you to get collectables is kind of bad. I mean, I'll do it on another playthrough but I'm in a minority that's planned on getting this game back in 2006 :V

First impressions are killer.

I HHHHHHHHAAAATTTTEEEEEEEEE The combat controls in this game.

My right thumb is doing WAY too much in my opinion.

Use my right thumb, to move the camera, use it to block, use it to warp and use it to attack..........

I was getting SUPER frustrated with the controls. Not to mention, you gotta HOLD the buttons, making switching between blocking, attack and warping slower than usual and I was getting hit more than I liked.

I was not happy at all with these combat controls.

why can't I change the controls to attack be Right trigger and defend using left trigger and warp using one of the shoulder buttons??? My index finger was doing absolutely NOTHING the entire battle. Why not make use of those button for combat??? Why put all the characters action besides movement on one finger!?

I was excited about the game but if the controls are gonna be like that, ima have to pass on this game.

My only complain is why they did change lock-on button R1 way better than R3 because my right thumb is so busy :(

Fair enough I guess. I still felt that dodge rolling was a bit too hard, maybe its the long animation.

Yeah, the startup is terrible. But I assume it's intentional so people wouldn't just abuse it and never use MP dodge. So dodge roll will be mainly for dodging the unblockable attacks, since they have many seconds of startup.

R1 will probably be used for something else.

You're not wrong, but at the same time that's not what newcomers to the series probably care about. From a marketing standpoint I think this was a mistake. Duscae should have been the free demo, and Platinum should have been a preorder bonus.

This I definitely agree with, Duscae is actually representative of the real game and a lot more substantial.

WOW

I actually really liked that! Didn't think the IQ was that bad either. The framerate got bad at times, but it as mostly decent as well.

Really pleased with the demo, the negativity certainly made me expect much worse.

I reeeaaaaally like the new combat, seems like they streamlined the skills we used in Duscae with a button to command movements to each weapon? A compromise, but understandable, given the need of the d-pad for real time weapon changing. It's definitely a favorable trade, not having universal individual skills but having complete control over our weapons.

My biggest criticism is that it doesn't let you save your game when you can fight as adult Noctis, that's the most important part of the demo. While I did enjoy my time through the kid Noctis sections (NERF SHINING HAMMER!), I really don't wanna do it again at all.

EDIT: I wonder how many people also named Carbuncle as Stella, lol.

I agree with most everything you said. For me, I didn't think the demo was as bad as people have complained. The only gripes I have are that the camera still spazzes out in tight areas, which was a problem in Episode Duscae 1.0. It was fixed in the update patch(at least fighting in the forest didn't spazz out like it did in the first version). The gripe is how some things have more detail than others. Hanging from Noctis's sword after a high warp in the final segment, the camera pulled close to his sword and that had some of the most crappiest detailing I've seen so far. I'm giving a pass to the "Mini" segment, because a lot of that stuff is small in the final game, so you don't have to bend over backwards trying to render it the most realistically as possible, but other parts should, like walls and such, should get a little more polish and attention.

Other than that, the majority of this game looks great. Then again, I really didn't have much problems with Duscae 1.0 other than the camera and some strange glitches I encountered.

Even with some muddy textures and spazzed camerawork, I think it looks beautiful. Considering it's supposed to be massive as hell, I could excuse some of the stuff if it means we are getting a massive experience and a unique and imaginative world of exploration. The art direction is still top notch(love the
long hall at the end of the Altissia segment
) and the music is breathtaking(love the waltz-type music in the playroom). Carbuncle's also a cutie(and it's not a Moogle, like we thought it would be, so this begs the question what FFXV Moogles will look like).

Switching between the four Adult Noctis weapons during air combos is really fun I think. Air dodging chains into pretty much anything, and you could keep an air combo going forever if you didn't have limited MP.

So I just finished playing the demo and I have a few thoughts.

-First off I was playing on Xbone, so performance was not great. It didn't really bother me too much in the end though.
-Graphics were good, but the aliasing was not.
-The summons were really cool, especially Leviathan. They always made the framerate tank which is expected I guess.
-I couldn't get the hang of the combat, even after getting the hidden items. I was not very used to the controls after playing Duscae, so that may have been part of the issue. Looking at some people's videos in this thread though and I see a lot of potential.

Overall the demo could've been better. I think I would've enjoyed it more if they made a side quest in an open area like Duscae. I'm still in for the deluxe edition though.

Yeah, its kind of boring , not a good first impression. Its like the ps3 can run the demo.
I was hopping for some of the scale and action shown by the trailers.

This was a pretty bad demo. Probably a big mistake to release it as a lot of casual fans/newcomers will likely be put off by it... not sure what they were thinking.

I'm still really excited for the game.

looks like I am playing animated GIF version of the game... it does get better later but is this how it is supposed to look? No offense meant for the fans of the FF... kind of looks like bad PS3 port.

Hate to say it but I agree. I really enjoyed the demo personally but from a marketing standpoint I can see this putting off any newcomers who may be interested in purchasing the game.

The full game will definitely be great though. I just think Square Enix shot themselves in the foot with this demo.

I don't want something else I want my R1 is the lock on :(

They should have had this demo dump you into Duscae after the boss fight. Changing up the combat systems in Duscae may have been a pain in the ass, but it would have been a better showcase of the game.

If I hadn't been following this game already, I'd be very confused about what FFXV even is after playing this..

I keep seeing that people who are newcomers hate it but I am seeing the exact opposite elsewhere than the GAF bubble

It's strange how bad the IQ can look, especially in some of my screens, but in motion it felt a lot better until we got close-ups of the characters (mostly the hair). Beautiful engine, otherwise!

Might post some screens in a moment, because I spent 90 minutes with the demo (single session). Messed with physics, tried to find every nook and cranny. Fought the end guy a couple times by using the reset buttons (it also said "Platinum buttons unlocked" but I wasn't sure what that meant).

& this's correct. platinum's a special little treat. duscae's an actual demo. but, hey - 'because squeenix', right? :) ...

Warp up in the citadel and drop down there's a two plate with weapons for adult noct

I kind of wasn't paying attention last night, so all I knew is that there was a demo out. Downloaded over night, but all this seems to be so far is a glorified weather/time cycle showcase. What's that the intention? Why call it a demo

.... It's a tech demo....

I've been saying this repeatedly. If you step out gaf the reception is completely different which is weird and at the same time not weird..cuz it's gaf lol

People forget that most consumers don't care about resolution or frame rate like a lot here as well. If it's playable and they find it fun..... they will buy it.

After playing through the demo a second time I have coined a new phrase:

"Blade Sponge"

I feel it encapsulates the enemy health level and hit feedback issues perfectly.

Really awkward way to demo the game for the general public. Type-Zero demo was lots better, this felt like a interactive trailer. Like, does collecting the Final Fantasy Jiggies actually do anything, or is that just there?

Just finished it. Haven't played or looked at any ffxv stuff before this so I guess you could say I'm "general public".

You are right on. It was awkward. And underwhelming. I love p4g, ff7, ffx, but this just felt...off.

Why was I collecting yellow crystal things? What was the point of the plates to step on? Then I'm a mini person in a giant room? I'm so confused.

Is this what ffxv is all about?

Contextual animation or coincidence? (leaning on the barrel for support)

I just couldn't wait to get home and play the demo again! In having a child-like time running around the giant room, admiring the graphics, the lighting, the animation and just being immersed on the beautiful, BEAUTIFUL music.

Lol I was messing around combining child nocts spells at the end like 5 minutes ago managed to get all 4 on screen at the same time what a lovely picture

How long was I asleep? I finished the demo in 23 minutes. It looks great, like a game we were suppose to get 10 years ago, but better.

It doesn't really have a huge world vibe, like say FFXII's demo did, but this is a dream sequence. A dream sequence that has a lot of magic to it.

Am I 100000.00% feeling the magic, no, but do I enjoy the parts that matter, absolutely!

It's a very very easy demo. I think I could have skipped just about every fight. What worries me is the whole battle system. I hate the feeling like this is some "new-age final fantasy". I want to feel like gaining a level or even hitting an enemy feels like.

Right now I feel as though I haven't had that feeling in 10 years. That's sad. It could possibly be better and I'm really looking forward to this game.

I just don't feel like they've done anything better than XII besides graphics. The battle system feels like it's floating. I really like the specifics to Final Fantasy because I enjoy the combat, regardless how far removed some gamer(s) have gotten over the years.

I sorta feel like I'm the person looking off to the side when I was always front and center for this series. I kinda want it to skid when it floats?

Where is the solid ground with this game? It's literally like any other SE game outside the world of Final Fantasy. I'll play it and I'll hopefully get excited for it, but why does it feel like it's floating or like I'm not even holding the game in my hands?

I wish everything felt more natural.

This feels clunky as shit.

As clunky as Bloodborne

kidding :P

I get a very disconnected feeling too, but I can't be sure it's for the same reasons.

Gameplay is just not right to me, and the visuals aren't helping me get into it either.

I wish jumping didn't feel like it had input lag, and kill the momentum as much as it does. A little more smoothness would go a long way here.

Hate to say it but I agree. I really enjoyed the demo personally but from a marketing standpoint I can see this putting off any newcomers who may be interested in purchasing the game.

Yeah, I don't hate the demo. I had fun with it.. but I can't imagine it is doing them any favors.

I have some issues with the controls but overall I was happy with the demo. I understand it's a demo and its gonna be short and not have all the bells and whistles, but I enjoyed it.

All I hope is that in real game we can map some controls for the combat. If so, I am sold. It was a charming little demo that spoils nothing from the main game. All I wanted after 10 years... lol

Demo was ehh it was a fun distraction. I'm far more interested in episode duscae, wish I got that instead.

Music is godly. I'm just chilling at the main menu. The rainy outside place after the oversized room had great music too.

I also named carbuncle ori.

Meh... didn't care for the demo.

Wish the dodge and attack buttons were reversed.

I read that you unlock a summon by finishing the demo. Is there any indication that I unlocked it?

Played through this earlier and really enjoyed myself despite flailing around like a scrub. Doing the final fight twice in a row made me appreciate the combat ideas a lot more and I'm really excited to see this go further.

This left me wishing they offered a few more types of things to use the panels to play around with, but oh well.

I don't really like the magic system at all, but the physical combat is ok, being able to switch the weapon manually now is a good change. Overall it works for what it is, but it's missing a certain level of responsiveness and feedback to the controls and animations I tend to prefer to have in action-oriented games (and usually get, especially from the Japanese-made ones), and it makes the game feel a little awkward to play. It's very similar to how I feel about the combat in the Kingdom Hearts games.

I didn't play the game in English, but bad voice work? There are like 20 words spoken in all of it.

Btw, what happened to skills?

What little we've heard of the dub in this, Duscae, and the trailers isn't good. I have a feeling Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis will be fine in context and over a length of time. Jury's out on Luna, but I imagine she'll be fine, too.

I don't think there's any hope to save Prompto, sadly.

I feel like you move too slow and the action feels stiff. In the end I still feel like I did before playing demo: eh. Persona 5 is still my most looked forward RPG for this year.
