Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

After the Playroom. They only showed a very very small part of it though. You can't see that bridge part. There's more to it in the Environment video, including an in-game render of that CG shot.

Also the demo had no NPCs, but the trailer had TONS (not necessarily in Altissia). The demo isn't that great of a representation.
Oh man. Imagine that framerate with all those NPCs and other stuff they need to add in...

Did you even pay attention to the screen at all? There's a counter for how many Fire spells you have available. Like, clear as day.

Yes I had one Fire spell. Did that go back up when my MP regenerated? Why did they tutorialize "spells" by giving me 10 uses of firecrackers earlier that didn't regenerate...?

Also aiming those firecrackers was awkward as heck.

Yea I was pretty shocked at how bad Altissia looked..

some parts of it looked terrible..

Indoor environment was probably the best looking part of the demo.

i think even Xenoblade X looks a bit more polished than that, but everything ive seen on trailers and videos looks so lovely so maybe is just an unpolished demo,

Holding circle to attack and losing control of the right stick for camera maneuvering really bothered me. It wasn't so much an issue when combat was one vs. one (i.e. the boss) and I didn't have to try to keep other enemies in frame, but going against the groups of nightmares was really wonky. I found myself holding circle with my right thumb and moving my left thumb to the right stick to keep everything centered. This actually worked well since no movement was required to get between enemies, but in the real game I'd hope to be able to use the trigger for attack.

What was the deal with the coins? It felt like a pointless way to extend the demo and force exploration. Actually, I suppose perhaps this might have been the point - to force us to look around the environment, which would further reinforce the whole 'tech demo' notion.

Did the demo make anybody else dizzy? It didn't make the room spin or anything but it was making me feel a tad nauseous. The only other game in recent memory that gave me this exact sensation was GTAV.

Whether or not you liked the demo, you have to admit this was a strange angle to take as the full public release 6 months away from launch as opposed to the much denser Duscae that came out a year before to a limited number of people. You could play Duscae and D2.0 for hours yet this should last you 60 minutes at most. I dunno, it just seems to me that hefty slice of the game with the updated combat schemes would've benefited people's interest in the game more than run around and get the crystals.

Spells DID regenerate earlier. During the Altissia part.

You cannot possibly be expecting that Square-Enix of all companies would release a retail game with performance that consistently poor. Of course it's going to be ironed out for the final release.

I swear, this forum...

Yeah... With so much negativity and people "being done" with this game and predicting it will suck, you would think they at least would ignore the threads about it.

Maybe it will. Maybe it'll run like shit. It wouldn't be the first big AAA RPG in the last few years to be janked up.

The tech demo sure doesn't do much to impress on that front though, that's for sure.

The water in the second picture is too PS2-ish. I refuse to believe it's what it will be like in the final game. If it is, fuck this game.
I mean the lake in Duscae is ten times better than that flat blue floor, and I'm not saying the lake is very gorgeous at all.

Most of the negative impressions come from GAF, though (What a surprise...).

who knows, i cant play the demo but its better to stay positive, at worst it has to be much better than XIII and that deserves some good sales.

Edit: shit, maybe this ends up being one of those games the public loves and sell millions that GAF does not like, like Ubisoft :O

It won't look that bad. No way. I wonder how good it'll get though.

Many of those are by companies that have never put out a game at release that isn't janked up, though?

Square has hurt nerds in the past, and it will not be forgiven.

If nothing else, I can see this game driving people to actually admit that FFXIII isn't all bad, lol...

Ah, the FF cycle.

Looked pretty good on my TV, the jumping animation was janky as fuck and the battle system was boring as all dry shit. Really made me not want to buy the game and just wait and see until impressions are out. I had more fun fucking around with the blocks in the second dream sequence and cruising around as an alligator with wings then anything else in the demo

I'd guess they're already working with a PS4K patch, they just drop this badly performing turd to PS4 owners and make the real game for PS4K. That even sounds like what Square Enix would most likely do.

Those places are impossible to get to in the demo. The whole thing is an enclosed space. That's probably why it looks bad.

I don't think it has anything to do with bad LOD. If it was, then there would have been more examples of things like that at a similar level.

Yeah I guess. My knees just don't quiver at the name Square Enix as some bastion of quality like they used.

Like I said, maybe it'll be perfectly polished, maybe it won't. We'll have to wait and see.

Or Uncharted 3. Which should give you an example of GAF's twisted standards of quality. :v

How anyone can think the graphics aren't anything other than fantastic is beyond me with shots like these.

No no no! That's not how it works! You have to nitpick and look for weird angles, and then say that the visuals suck ass.

1. In no universe is Square Enix going to make this game a PS4K exclusive (what would they even do for the XB1 version?), not after they said today they need 10 million units sold.

2. Just because the PS4K is unreleased and (rumored to be) more powerful does not mean it's a magical cure-all for underwhelming console performance of games whenever it becomes an issue.

Looking at the environment trailer, I think a lot of stuff in Altissia was disabled for the demo, though I have no idea why. The waterwheel doesn't move, for instance, and the water doesn't flow the same way.

This is the smartest thing I have ever seen anyone say on this website.

What the actual fuck did I just play

I'm a longtime FF fan and I don't understand what this thing is. I picked up golden nuggets, held O to instawin fights using a toy sword and was then given a short (but cool!) fight where I couldn't lose even if I tried.

Huh?

A lot of the negativity stems from this, specifically. Better or patched-up versions of games are starting to feel more and more imminent, as is the release of this game for PC. There's a little fear there with being stuck with a less than ideal version of XV.

I enjoyed the demo for what it is. It gave me a small taste of things to come, I really didn't (and still don't) have huge expectations and/or hype over this game, and this is coming from a long time fan. I hope SE irons out the performance issues before release though.

The visuals were great, the combat was kinda meh. But I reckon that's just something I'm gonna have to get used to.

I definitely ran out during the level lord part. Didn't even had HP or MP until I turned into a grown up.

Weird. I just kept getting more. I don't know if it was because I kept killing enemies, or I stepped on all the switches I saw. But my spells were definitely getting replenished. Same with the Fire spell during the Boss Fight, which DOES require stepping on a switch.

I really hope the actual game isn't just "hold action button while locked on." That really turned me off in this.

Based on the Duscae demo, it isn't like that.

I really have no fucking clue why Square thought this was the demo to showcase to the world what their game is like.

So far, having fun with the demo. It's a bit simplistic right now but I'm sure they'll add a little more complexity in the final game when you have a full party and whatnot.

Although this demo isn't great I think they've tweaked the camera and lock-on to be much less erratic than Duscae. I wasn't really feeling the combat there.

I really like the combat system being able to make up your own combos using dpad while holding O to attack.

I hope the framerate is better for final release, I'm not normally bothered by sub 30 framerates but it felt really bad.
