Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

If this is true I don't understand the purpose of the demo other than to be off-putting.

I didn't play either of the previous demos (I didn't pre-order or buy Type-0).
There isn't much purpose to the demo other than showing progress in a few sub-systems from Duscae to today. So if you didn't play Duscae, I can understand the confusion.
Duscae 3.0, with the update combat, should have been the first demo released to the public. The reception would have been so much better. I'm one of the people that bought Type 0 only to play the XV demo, and that was like a year ago. I've had my fill, let everyone else have fun too.
Certainly.
The final game will have two combat modes:

I'm wondering whether the demo features the "action" mode or the slower-paced mode
That is news to me, thanks.

People in 4chan are more positive about the demo than GAF. There's one copypasta going around talking about technical combat that's being posted in all the threads lol.

...have no idea why I'm there.

because some people on GAF are being absolutely ridiculous right now.

This is all my fault. I caused this through my prayer. :(

Lead us not into Episode Duscae,
But deliver us final build footage.

And now we are here, begging for more Duscae.
Dammit.

you monster...(then again I liked Duscae and Platinum. Maybe I'm the real monster)

Everything before Adult Noctis is worthless, and is not representative of the actual game. Kid Noctis's section is just a glorified tech demo

Kid Noctis's section did pretty well with the Hidden crystals and secret wayes , I hope they do something similar in the final game

That was underwhelming.

I'm still looking forward to the proper game, but the demo wasn't particularly great at all.

The combat and frame rate are worrying.

Edit: And I expected more eye candy tbh, but visuals are not important in the grand scheme of things.

Just played it. It's no Duscae but damn it's pretty at times.

I feel like the combat was better in the first demo than here, but I've not read the whole thread so maybe I've missed the point.

Still looking forward to the full game, but this felt like an earlier demo than Duscae in many respects. I hope it's not "too" Kingdom Heart-sy though... those games do nothing for me at all.

I feel really stupid but what do you do at the lake in the first area? I triggered leviathan and there's a circle in the lake but I can't get to it. Carbuncle is just sitting there too.

The carbuncle will jump into a portal at the end of the lake once you approach it. You jump after it.
Unless of course it bugged out somehow.

Pretty sure it's bugged then. Carbuncle didn't move after I killed the first 2 enemies and I've walked all along the lake...

Nothing happens when I get close.

Could be bugged though. I got a crash at one of the 'change into a monster' panels after changing - changing back - and then attempting to change again.

Game hung and had to start again.

This seems OK and looks amazing in places (summons) and really does play like Kingdom Hearts but for a first public mistake I don't think this is the best of areas to demo.

After you kill the enemies, it should've started moving ahead of you to the far side of the lake.
Time to restart lol

I kind of had the opposite experience of everybody else with this.

This made me look forward to the game a little bit more. Actually playing it lets me know I can remove my expectations of a Final Fantasy title and enjoy it for what it is: an action RPG, maybe a tad less button mashy than Kingdom Hearts.

Most of the combat in the demo is very rudimentary, but I had fun with the last fight.

This is the blurriest game I've seen since the early borderline SD PS3 games that used Quinsuncx AA (see Haze). Looks worse than the 720p Xbone games from an IQ perspective.

I felt a little nausea or motion sickness...

When I was inside the house, playing with the blocks, there were some times I was stuck and the images kept changing from inside the blocks and outside. That's when I felt weird.
Outside of that, no other problems.

I loved the combat mechanics, as changing weapons, selecting your main weapons, dodging and teleporting. I liked the graphics, for real. And that Iron Giant fight was good, real good. I fought him at least 3 times.

If the framerate dropped as some are talking, I couldn't see it.

Played it at PS4.

This demo was great. The negativity here is crazy lol. It's super Kingdom Hearts lite, but that's not a bad thing.

I like how circle is now the attack button, feels better than the square button. And holding down the attack button while using the d pad to switch weapons is fun, nice way to experiment with combos. The combat feels a little better than the Duscae demo. I also like how this ties in to the short anime they released this week.

Only bad thing is that I have to wait til Sept. 30 to play the whole goddamn thing :(

Restarting fixed it. Not a good first impression.. :P

that sucks lol

I've completed the demo on both consoles and never had a problem with either version. PS4 was a little more clear but I really didn't notice to many instances where anything else was insanely above the other.

Basically how I felt.

My biggest gripe with the combat, after trying it out for longer, is the fact that noctis now REALLY homes in on the target, Back in the day he would lunge towards them, but still, ultimately swing if he wasn't close enough and whif. Now he works like Semi-auto in Tales games, running into range... and guess what, I NEVER PLAY SEMI-AUTO IN TALES GAMES IT"S AWFUL! Manual all the way. PLS, take lesson from bamco and make it togglable.

Haha, you are the second person after me who make the Tales Semi-auto mode comparison to what we have here. It really does feel like it. I truly hope there is another game mode, a manual mode. No auto-targeting, no button holding for attack and defend. That would be awesome.

The combat felt meh to me, and it felt a little clunky, but I still had fun. No idea what the money was for though.

Felt shallow, but was pretty, I guess.

When I reloaded the boss a second time (third fight) there was no longer the ability to lock on to street posts or the building as warp points. Any idea what might've happened to cause this? I can't rationalize the ability having suddenly been disabled.

I felt a little nausea or motion sickness...

Same. It wasn't enough to make me take a break from the game but the game definitely makes me a little motion sick. I generally don't have this problem with any game and hope the final product doesn't cause this as well (not sure I can pin it on anything specific like the camera, or if it's just the engine and frame rate).

I have to say this is the worst demo i have ever played .
I don't know what SE was thinking , lack content , lack of gameplay etc etc
Still really looking forward to the game but they should have just put out a longer better demo.

I think you need the carbuncle to "unlock" it for you again when it uses its ruby light.

Big sword can't spot teleport. Did you have that equipped?

you can short warp with big sword though.....its interesting watching noctis whip that thing to teleport.

Yup you can teleport with it. Just not spot teleport which is like on lampposts and buildings and stuff. I know cause I wanted to get super high with it and crash down on the giant, but couldn't :<

Almost finished the Demo but I think I figured out what I dont like about the gameplay so far. First off, this is awesome! I cant believe they are making a mainline FF game with action combat finally. This is what ive always wanted since playing Kingdom Hearts. Speaking of KH, why is the combat in FFXV so floaty? It should feel just like KH but with the hot swapping weapons mid combo. Just the act of dodging is super slow. I have to pre dodge before the enemy even has a chance to attack and hope it works.

I also hope when we get the full release there will be an option to change the buttons for attack and dodge. Really dont like the set up right now.

I think the camera and running needs to be reworked. Noctis feels so slow and the game seems tank-ey. This, combined to the way the camera sticks to him in an over the shoulder way makes me feel dizzy.

The combat is certainly not my preferred style but it looks like there will be enough weapons, spells and options for me to have a comfortable build to mess around with

Hopefully there is a very large variety of things to play around with in the final game

Found 226 of those gold stones...how many are there...? there is a section near the beginning where I see some and a tree log that goes across but I cant figure how to get there...and I missed one sliding down that pissed me off lol...

Anyway, enjoyed this little demo for what it is...

Totally agree. Still hyped for the game

That's my biggest gripe as well...the floatiness or lag is WAY too much. I'm not sure how fixable this is as I know nothing about programming, but it will help a ton if they can address it.

The framerate is so so bad. I want to like this but the framerate ruins everything.

There better be a PC version.

Just finished it, combat feels great. Some of these warping in and out combos are cool. Magic doesn't feel quite right. Need to practice defending more haha
