Wkd BO 03•25-27•16 - Batman vs Superman (or Grindr hookup gone sideways) bests Bunny

Honestly, I expect more. I still feel like this is the Avengers 2 we should have got.

Yeah that 167 estimate still looks a little low imo. I mean we have Cap coming off the very well liked Winter Soldier, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. It would be surprising to me to see it open lower than $170

I think there is one more trailer for it coming to show some more money shots to increase hype.

It's an Avengers cast, but it's still a Cap story. I expect the BO to reflect that tbh.

The OW could be really good, but that extra punch will depend on how much IM and Spidey deliver.

Grindr hookup gone sideways indeed

It's an Avengers cast, but it's still a Cap story.

I don't know how that distinction is going to matter, though. At least not for the opening weekend.

It's an Avengers cast. It's the Avengers fighting each other. I don't see the fact it's *technically* a Captain America movie really denting people's perception of what they're buying a ticket to. It's the movie where all the Avengers fight each other and Spider-Man shows up.

If CW opens to $170+M, I wonder what that means for marvel films going forward? We may not see any truly solo films outside of the origin flicks. Hell, we know we're getting Hulk in Thor 3, so that may be where we're heading regardless of what CW does.

Even the origin flicks aren't immune: Falcon showing up in Ant-Man, for example.

That's one of the benefits of having a Cinematic Universe. They should take advantage of it as much as possible.

It is lacking the Hulk as a fun spectacle character but I get what you're saying

You're absolutely correct, BUT, I think it also benefits from the fact that it's a Cap movie too, since that sorta lowers people's expectations about the scale of the movie, although, yeah, having all Avengers in it and calling it a CIVIL WAR is one heck of an expectations booster.

What I'm trying to put up for debate is that, if AoU would have been canceled and replaced by Avengers: Civil War, but been the exact same movie with the same budget as a Cap 3 version, do you think the expectations would've been higher or a better move by Marvel?

Ahh, I had forgotten about that. And I agree. At the very least, it makes logistical sense to have crossovers like that. I still think it's complete bullshit none of the avengers showed up when the Thor 2 villain was threatening to destroy the entire universe. Apparently that's less important than taking down Hydra bases. Also, how is it that Rodgers didn't get a call when the POTUS was kidnapped?

I'm on a flight right now that was supposed to be 3:40 and turned into 6 hours of hell

And it's still better than that goddamn Ang Lee Hulk

Doesn't have the Hulk for spectacle but instead has......... (not talking about Spidey). Black Panther alone is a huge draw among my family.

It's being screened for press and insiders next week Friday and the LA premier is on the 12th. Once early word from both gets out that it's amazing combined with the Disney marketing machine I fully expect 200+ ow.

Kevin and Ike must be hand delivering Bobby's check in the Fantaticar.

You are always on planes, but you still manage to be lowbrow.

This is sort of the unfortunate downside of shared universes in general, not just movie ones. "Why doesn't Superman just clean up Gotham" is a cry as old as the hills :P

Just gotta roll with it, I suppose.

I feel like this movie will perform closer to an avengers movie than a cap one. There seems to be more excitement for this movie than AoU. Thats pretty anecdotal though so who knows how things will play out.

I am calling my shot, not only will Civil War do more than Ultron, but it will be the biggest film of the year
Nothing is stopping Rogue Leader if Darth Vader is featured significantly in the marketing.

I do agree that CW is going over Ultron; I think it's doing 500+ DOM. That Spider-Man trailer just blew up the hype.

Ike contributed $0.01 to Bobby's check.
Like Sebastian Shaw did to Nimrod, too bad we will never see that on film
We ain't seeing the Shi'ar or the Starjammers either.

Well, maybe we will if animated superhero movies become a big thing someday. The guys behind animated stuff are always more willing to go deep into the source material (because it's far easier to pull off compared to live action).

It'll be fine because we'll get Red Hulk instead :D

Didn't consider that possibility. Great excuse to not just have a Hulk, but maybe even show what it would take to fight it and possibly kill it.

That's bold. I'm low-balling this one a lot, don't think it will connect as much with people.

How is Guardians of the Galaxy an easier movie to pull off than something with Cyclop's dad and I do believe a cat woman?

No way Red Hulk happens

I mean, Ross is there and it could happen-but no I don't see it happening in this already crammed movie.

Maybe Cap will hack Baron Zemo's servers and find video footage of Red Hulk and Namor. And then send an email to Sharon Carter.
