Do the controllers vibrate? Table tennis was mentioned and a little vibration when the ball hits the paddle would probably be some nice feedback.

I have a really nice and rare pair of audio tecnicas, but the cans themselves are wood and I don't want to ruin them. The 598's were exactly the pair I was looking at but Im worried they'll be too bulky for the headset.

598s are fantastic and amazon throws them up for sale every once in a while for like $80. I can't see them being too big for the headset and the open can design should be a nice bonus for being able to still hear the real world around you.

There are haptics (felt like the same LRA as in the Steam Controller) which can produce this kind of tactile feedback, yeah.

Yes and from the reviews they are great for directional audio

Nice pick! I'm going to be rocking my Sennheiser HD 598s

I had a pair of Sony HDR-7506's and while amazing for music, they were absolute trash tier at games. I dont know why but all my non gaming headphones for games always sucked really bad, usually due to the sound levels being extremely off. (i.e. voices for characters being barely audible) This time I just decided to get a pair of Kingston HyperX II's and they've been solid.

Yeah that's honestly the only fear I have is that they'll be too bulky but I'm a bit of an audiophile so I have my Razer Krakens, SteelSeries Spectrum 5XB, and a pair of Audio Technica ATHPRO500MK2's. So luckily I have options! But I'm hoping my Sennheiser's will be just fine because I love the audio quality and feel on em.

and I've heard nothing but good stuff about these. I may have to add them to my collection.

Rocking the same thing, love the soundstage

Since you can swap the audio cable, it's great for putting a short cable to connect to the HMD and bulkiness shouldn't be an issue since the open design keeps them airy and they're absurdly comfortable

Yeah that's why I'm hoping they wont be too bulky, the audio quality is too good to pass up using in VR.

Speaking of headphones. I just ordered a new pair, the NVX XPT100, to upgrade my current set. Looks to be a solid upgrade and I like that the cord is much shorter.

These are my everyday headphones. They're insanely comfortable and sound great. A solid choice for closed headphones in that price range.

Definitely stereo headphones. I've asked this question several times, but can't seem to find anyone with hard-to-drive headphones (~300 ohms) to test the capabilities of the Vive's amp. Because whether or not it can properly drive certain headphones will significantly effect your choices. Unless of course, and assuming you're able to, run another cable straight from your dedicated Amp (connected to your PC) instead of using the Vive's 3.5mm input.

so I've tested the Pre with 80ohm and 250ohm headphones (Beyerdynamic DT-770's and DT-250's), both work at comfortable listening levels, but the volume is still reduced compared to what you'd get from an amp. Personally I have no problem with it and that's the way I'll probably be going.

The cool thing is, if you have a USB amp (or even a USB DAC Amp) you can plug that into the HMD's extra USB port... the HMD is basically a USB hub with its own internal devices.
SteamVR lets you set which audio output and recording device to use when running SteamVR, and also which one to switch back to when exiting, so it is pretty flexible.

Thank you so much!

It sounds like I should ok using my HD 600s, which are 300ohm impedance. I use a O2+ODAC, but it's not quite portable enough for that. I'm glad the flexibility exists nonetheless.

Sorry if posted already,

Adr1ft is coming to Vive in May:

http://www.engadget.com/2016/03/31/adr1ft-htc-vive-may/

"Folks who (digitally) lined up to buy the HTC Vive have another game to add to their wishlist: Adr1ft. Publisher 505 Games announced today that the game inspired by its creator's Twitter freakout will hit HTC and Valve's room-scale VR platform this May for $20. It's already available for Oculus Rift and has been confirmed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, albeit in non-VR form."

My Vive is already at the sort facility in Seattle. I wonder if it's tagged to not be delivered until Tuesday or if some people will start receiving their units on Monday.

Haptic feedback is almost as important as roomscale. SelfieTennis makes it so that you can literally feel the swings of the racket. Not the contact with the ball. The ACT of swinging. Its amazing. One of the most immersive experiences I've had so far.

Room scale is becoming too enticing. Dropped some stuff on CL tonight and with any luck I'll be preordering a Vive in a few days. That said, I'm hoping that after release I can snag one for $900-ish on eBay.

You know what sport I've been quietly hoping makes it to the Vive sooner rather than later?

Holy shit - thanks for posting this! Mine is, too! When I last checked earlier in the day, it was still in Indiana. Hype!

Furthermore, the vibrations vary significantly or at least seem to. The range of vibrations seems to go from minor to strong. For the swings they do very fast minor vibrations. When you hit it does to a stronger vibration. The vibrations do seem to be throughout your palm.

That's something I never knew I wanted!

Does the Vive do positional audio? Not just left/right stereo but actually making stuff sound like it's coming from above you, behind you, at 3:00, etc. I remember Oculus making a big deal about adding this a few months back, saying its crucial for immersion.

Definitely and it's done very well. It was most obvious in The Brookhaven Experiment where it helped out a lot for zombies behind you.

Sounds pretty similar to the haptic feedback when using the Steam controller for gyro aim. You get a little tick every time it rotates X degrees, for example. I guess it could feel like air resistance if they were light and frequent enough.

So I stayed up until 2am just in case they tried to take the payment again. Of course they didn't. If they're doing it around midnight/1am does that mean they're doing it from the US, or it's an automated run set to kick off around midnight? Can't work out whether they'll try tonight or it'll be Monday at the earliest

It's pronounced like "revive", not that French stuff!
(still getting used to it, bleh)

HTC Vive |OT| one clean room guaranteed with purchase

HTC Vive |OT| Vive la difference

For headphones someone needs to make a little tracker you can strap to them so you can find them easily while in VR

I've given up now. Next time they phone me if they cant fix it on the spot I'm cancelling.

let's tear some living rooms up.

This will be perfect for the Vive

You know this shit is coming too

The coolest VR software is the ones that make you feel like you're actually there. I'm most excited about Cloudlands Golf, Space Pirate Trainer, and Pool Nation VR because they look like they nail it.

Good lord I'd love to pick one of these up as close to launch as possible, the impressions are incredible.

Still I do not know exactly how the wallet / missus would react. I might have to wait, I am not even sure how well I will be able to run the software / games.

If i wanted to contact support myself (since i haven't heard from them yet and the money are gone) do i need to use the US website or...?

Italy here
