Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

Need help with an npc
Trying to get the elevator to work. I did the first 3 steps now I'm told I need a super magical item from the 1st chamber. No clue what to do.

It's the item you get for finishing level 1 without a scratch I think. A bullet that says you perfected the first floor, you get it after you kill the lvl 1 boss

Had a few good runs tonight, but still haven't gotten past the second floor boss.

Spoilerish stuff regarding the first floor:
I managed to unlock the fireplace secret, but man is it a pain in the ass. The two key entry requirement really kills my motivation to go that direction, since it usually prevents me from getting a better gun (or in some cases, I just don't get a key drop at all so I can't go that way. Did one run where I got a void shotgun + two keys, so I got pretty far but ended up dying stupidly before I could find the cell key to free the dude in there.

Best weapon I've gotten so far is the
Serious Cannon
- man, that thing can clear a room pretty easy. That was the run I got to the second floor boss room, but it's not a very good boss weapon.

Also, minor weapon spoiler that I found hilarious:
The Light Gun that shoots a duck as the last bullet.
I just about died laughing when I realized what it did.

Wow I was playing and ended up finding a glitching chest. Opened it up and it took me to a floor with 1 room. It was a boss room and I had to fight 2 glitching beholsters.

It was impossible to win because i had only the default pistol.

Is there a way to zoom the screen out? I'm getting in situations where I'm being hit by bullets from offscreen enemies. I read something about pressing R3 but it doesn't do anything for me.

Also: I'm having a tough time finding secret rooms. Aside from the obvious tutorial example, I don't know where the hidden doors can appear in a room's layout so I don't know where to fire my gun. Isaac is easier since the hidden doors are always located at specific points in a room.

That R3 thing is for the map (when you hold L2). I don't think there's anyway to zoom out the camera during gameplay.

If it's what I'm thinking, you need the
Master Round I, from defeating a first floor boss without being hit.

So this just happened;

I got no keys, there's two chests in this level and the fucking STORE is LOCKED by a lock...
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

I just
found a secret switch or something behind a fireplace, and that led me down in to the sewers. I opened a cell down there and let some old bullet guy out and died a few rooms later.
What did that do?

Bullet guy
shows up in a cell without doing the secret thing as well. he shows up in the shop sometimes selling some extra stuff

Just played my first run in the game and got to the Floor 3 boss before dying. I love the way the game plays. There was just one weird thing: my map wasn't showing up, not even the mini-map. I couldn't teleport anywhere so there was a lot of backtracking. Anyone else have this problem?

Marine > Hunter > the other 2 who I dont care about. The only time I wouldnt use the Marine would be in the runs when youre trying to gather materials for the elevator guy and you cant really use your money or keys, so the extra weapon on the hunter and the convict helps.

His starting gun sucks, and lockpick has a chance to fail. And if it does fail, you can't use a key to loot the chest.

<3 Hunter

Yes, yes, and partially yes. I'm very fond of the Convict as well. Her starting pistol is amazing. But the corgi is so damn cute.

Only played the tutorial so far and I can already tell this is of the highest quality. I like Nuclear Throne, but this kinda makes it look like some college project by comparison. Not knocking NT, but it's a testament to what has been achieved with Gungeon. Really good stuff so far!

Reached the final boss for the first time, had to go in with 1 heart. Died, leaving him with 10% life.

It was my first time getting to that floor, so I just made too many mistakes. Too many enemies whose attack patterns I did not understand.

I would say the fightsaber is probably the best weapon I've encoutered so far. Unbelievably overpowered, given that it can reflect bullets. If you use the fightsaber, there's becomes no reason to roll or dodge anything.

I think clicking rapidly is better than holding the trigger. You shoot faster on a lot of guns and don't miss the auto reload.

I've found that I seem to aim better for the semi automatics when I do individual clicks as opposed to holding it down, but I think that's because I can put a split second of thought into each shot.

Just had a run that got me to the 5th floor for the first time. Had a cannon called the Particulator which made short work of every boss I encountered. Eventually died due to falling in a pit, feels bad man.

This gun is crazy powerful, and it easily propelled me to my first clear. The quick draw passive I had made it even more ridiculous since it fired two shots for every bullet.

That's not an issue if you use it in situations where you do not have a key. It has a good success rate, and then if it does fail, you can shoot the chest.

I think the pilot is by far the best character. He has more opportunity to gain items via chests, he has cheaper items in shops, he can hold an extra item, and he can hold more ammunition.

He's bare bones at the start but he's a character that creates more opportunities in the long term. You can use the shop more freely because of the discount, and you can get items you otherwise wouldn't be able to via the lockpick. Additionally, you can make the most of of the end-game weapons you do get with the increased ammo. With the pilot and an ammo belt, I can usually use one single gun good gun for the entire game, without the need to switch.

Good to know, I was just wondering this very thing for some of the weapons.

This is definitely more polished but the games play very differently.

NT has a smoother escalation because your weapons scale predictably as you move forward. In ETG, you can get great weapons on the first floor and awful weapons at the end. Plays more like Isaac in that respect.

NT playthroughs are over much faster than ETG's.

Character differences are more pronounced in NT.

Good points. NT has a brisk pace and streamlined approach (no shops, offerings, etc.). Even with a leveling system and between-level perks, NT plays a bit more arcadey. Games are similar but definitely boast some distinctive qualities.

Died on floor 4 and can get to floor 3 pretty much every time, progress.

Gonna do a run and try and pay off the elevator dude even though I never plan on starting from later floors

did you get the secret in the tutorial?

play it again, look for a secret

he has some more dialogue, and then the guy who killed him starts to appear consistently alongside the empty minecart room on the third or fourth floor

Did you make sure to talk to Manny in the tutorial room again after defeating Blockner to unlock the
coin
?

I reconfigured my controller using the PS4s accessibility functions to create a control layout that doesn't require me to move my fingers and thumbs across any buttons during gunplay.

Blank is mapped to L3
Reload is mapped to R3
Use item is R2
Map is L2
Fire is R1
Dodge is L1

This way you can use blanks, reload, roll, without moving off the right stick or having to 'tap' the fire button (in the case of reload).

Give it a go if you don't like the default layout, or this sounds appealing.

Just had an awesome run. Got to the fourth level, farthest I'd gotten yet

Metronome + Scrambler or Metronome + Beehive are both insane combos

And honeycomb + heart of ice is also amazing

Active reload passive is cool but they really should have made it activate on shooting rather than pressing the reload button, makes it very difficult to use while moving right

The Pilot is objectively the worst character.
They need to maybe make his starter gun better or the perks he starts with better. Lockpick fail, meh. The only thing is the store discount is kinda whatever considering on a bad run you might not even make it past the first floor cause his gun has a pretty low ROF and just spreads all over the place.

Wow that ant gun is amazing and funny.

shooting acid spit that makes pools from it's mouth and when you reload the ant gets turned around and you shoot fire from it's ass... It even sets those poison pools on fire, soooo good!

The Pilot is objectively the worst character.
It's ironic because i literally just beat the game with him.
Jetpack+faster reload item+trashcannon+trident+gun that deflects bullets on reload. Is a combination for a relatively easy run, jetpack was constantly on making the game play super fast. Roam around with trashcannon and trident during the floor then switch to reflect gun for boss. That combo made me nigh untouchable because you can pretty much constantly reflect bullets back

Worked in another hour of playing. Didn't have any particularly strong runs but was able to try out a few "new" guns. The experience of unlocking a chest and trying out a weapon for the first time is worth the price of admission. Such a great game.
