Critically acclaimed TV shows you don't like?

Sure, nobody loves every show on that list. But to say not a single one of those shows does it for you is odd. It's not even about criticical acclaim, it's like you don't jive with the cultural output of a generation.

Plenty, to be honest. I've concluded I have problems getting hooked on a show if it doesn't feature at least a couple of likeable characters. I recognise series like House of Cards and Breaking Bad are decent television, but all the characters are so deplorable that I have a hard time watching it.

Compared to Black Sails, Game of Thrones feels like a Shakespeare production by middle schoolers. Awful acting, pathetic production design (even now with its immense popularity, I guess they're still unwilling to spend too much). Stopped after S3.

I also tried several times to get into The Wire, unsuccessfully. Every time I am bored to tears. It's probably because I am not from the US and I just can't relate to all this stuff with the projects, racial tensions, etc.

Based on what I've seen I'm sure it's not critically acclaimed, but it sure is popular (I think): Walking Dead. I watched the first season and was hooked with the first amazing episode, but literally starting episode 2 the quality nosedived (nosedove?). I managed to finish season 1, but goddamn that show was not good.

That's a legitimate reason to not like a show, sure, but do you really not think Walter White is a great character? He's absolutely deplorable as you say, but I think he was a wonderful character and I love watching him do deplorable things

The Leftovers

I do like some of Hannibal but a lot of it is high art nonsense. Mads made it, no doubt.

I never liked The Sopranos, Mad Men bored me to death, The Shield sucked and I quit The West Wing after the pilot.

I consider myself a pretty big comedy buff but I just don't like Louis or Louis CK in general really. He has some good ideas, no doubt about that, but nothing he does I find very funny

Oh and I guess I don't love Mr Show as much as I think I should. I really like everyone involved with it, like I love Comedy Bang Bang, anything PFT does, I even really enjoyed With Bob and David, but I've been going back and watching full episodes of Mr Show and thinking it's only ok. I've only seen the first 2 seasons so far though.

The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family. Neither show is remotely funny to me, though I can at least occasionally appreciate some of the geeky moments of BBT.

The Wire -- I find it boring. And not being american, it's hard to empathize with any of the characters and places or events they refers to. Gave it 2 seasons before giving up.

Penny Dreadful - This show feels like it suffers from trying to do too much without any budget or expertise to back it up. The show feels cheap, lots of the twists and turns felt undeserved, and it's 99% setup for something that gets resolved in 5 minutes or being resolved in the boring way possible aka cheap.

I watched through all of The Wire and I still don't know why people are so obsessed with that show. I found it mediocre as hell, but in all fairness, I'm not really into cop dramas.

X-Files

I got through season 1, and thought most of it was okay, not great. The plots were almost always laughably predictable and cliche, but some of the monsters of the week were at least creepy and interesting enough to keep my attention.

Tried Season 2 and found it to be even worse. Gave up after several episodes. Does it get better later on? I REALLY wanted to like it, because I loved Fringe, and from what I've heard, that was a huge blatant X-Files homage.

I think Season 3 is generally considered the best of the series (it's certainly my favorite), but if you didn't care for the first two seasons, then it's safe to say the show isn't for you.

I watched the first five or six episodes of Mad Men and just found the whole thing depressing as fuck. Not my kind of show when there's literally no one to root for.

The Walking Dead - It's soooooooo booring and they keep doing stupid things that get people killed.

Curb your enthusiasm - Hate the main guy, he's not funny at all to the point of being annoying.

The Office - I dislike uncomfortable/awkward humor as it's just like... line, pan, zoom.. nothing.

Arrested Development - Meh, found it not very funny. Just weird to be weird.

Hannabal was a bit meh to me but everyone else raved about it. Didnt like Sons of Anarchy either and if i'm being honest only enjoyed the first season of The Walking Dead before it started to bore me.

Hey OP aren't you the guy who found Better Call Saul boring? You might just be a lost cause.
Just kidding,kinda.

I watched the first few seasons of Breaking Bad and I just didn't care anymore because they were all horrible people that I lost all empathy for over time (had the same problem after the first few seasons of Mad Men). Or maybe it might be that the whole slide into depravity just felt so dirty that over time it became kinda exhausting. I say that because the Sopranos is basically 98% villains but I didn't have the same reaction...might be because Tony Soprano was a much more sympathetic character in a sick sort of way.

I got half-way through Daredevill S1 (Episode 4-5) and I just couldn't take anymore, it was so dull. A couple friends of mine have told me I've just got to when "it starts getting good" but I hate that sort of excuse for a show.

Nope, it dosent "start to get good" after that. You were right to just get out

On topic? Breaking Bad was ok. Nothing more than that. Ive never tried but i bet its impossible to watch a second time.

The fact that you boiled The Wire down into just a "cop drama" when its so so much more than that seems to show it went way over your head and why other people absolutely adore the show.

I really tried to like Dexter, just was not anything for me.
In terms of anime, Sword Art Online all the way. Second arc was garbage.

I don't understand how you can't like any of them. Maybe you just don't like TV?
On topic, I have tried 3 times to get into the Wire. It's alright, but never grabs me :/

Anything Anime. I hate everything about it. Especially modern shows.

Some older, classic movies and OVAs with great hand made animation and human-like characters, these i actually love. Anything else can burn.

Stopped watching Breaking Bad after season 3.

Not gonna watch Game of Thrones anymore either. They fucked up last season, so there's no hope anymore.

For me it's The Walking Dead S2 - S4.5. I loved The Walking Dead S1 but it was downhill after that. I gave up halfway through Season 4 because I just didn't care anymore.
