ADDITIONS [Shifters content]

-Added Pearls of Auriga
A pure outgrowth of Auriga, they distil the living essence of the planet. Both powerful and beautiful, the Pearls appear only during the Dark Season and can be put to many wondrous purposes, such as impacting the effects of the Dark Season or building beautiful new districts.

-Added Allayi Faction
To survive the horrors of the Dust Wars, the Allayi scattered themselves to the cold places of Auriga. Now that the Guardians have awakened they are coming together, hoping to save Auriga and rebuild the life they once had.
-Added Altar of Auriga screen
The Altar of Auriga is a sacred building to those who live upon her. It is a centre of ancient power from the times even before the Endless.

-Added Blessings of Auriga.
By bringing Auriga's Pearls and unlocking the Altar's Blessings, powerful magical effects can be applied to a city, region, or empire.

-Added a new season management and new Winter difficulties, available in the Advanced Settings of a new game (old system remains as a game choice)

-Added more Winter effects. Coastal water and lakes can be frozen during Winter, making them passable

Seems to have some pretty interesting new stuff. I'm excited to dive back in, as it's been awhile.

Additionally, all Endless series games are on sale this week, so it's a great time to pick them up if you haven't:

-Endless Series Bundle 70% off (has everything Amplitude but Shifters - $29.11): http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/292/

-Endless Legend Collection 66% off (everything EL but Shifters - $20.39) http://store.steampowered.com/sub/85250/

The base Endless Legend game is also on sale for $10.19 if you want to get a taste without fully committing, though I'd recommend picking up the collection as the DLC is pretty much all very worthwhile/significant.

Also of note, there seems to be at least one more expansion/DLC for EL in the pipeline after today's release. And Endless Space 2 besides, coming sometime later this year.

EL is the best 4X game I've ever played (with some of the most fascinating worldbuilding) and the amount of support it's still getting blows me away. The enhanced winter mechanics sound amazing.

Are the other two DLC packs for this game worth getting? They all sound cool so I'm tempted to grab all three during the sale. Already own Endless Legend but haven't spent much time with it yet.

I bought EL about six months ago with both Guardians and Shadows expansions from day one. I can't really imagine playing the game without them. Probably the best espionage system I've seen in a 4X, the Forgotten are very well done for an espionage focused faction, and the Guardian units are just fucking COOL.

Probably going to buy this as soon as I get home.

Yeah they're worth it. Feel free to read the pages for each one, but the gist is that Guardians adds these big super golem units, expanded tech tree with wonders, and world events + co-op/competitive quests. Shadows mainly adds the Forgotten faction and the espionage system.

Echoes of Auriga is just some extra music to the soundtrack + a few unique items for units and The Lost Tales adds some extra minor faction quests. If you don't buy the complete collection or finish the bundle/whatever, those 2 aren't really necessary, but they're so cheap right now anyway at $1.01 and $0.67 respectively that you sort of may as well grab them just to have everything.

Thanks guys! Gonna grab 'em all over the weekend and feast.

Maybe this will scratch the itch until Stellaris

Right? And we've got Endless Space 2 sometime this year as well :>

My cup overfloweth with strategy game riches.

And just to clarify further, Echoes of Auriga and The Lost Tales are classified as "Add-on" in my Steam DLC page. Guardians, Shadows, and Shifters are "Expansion Pack". Which is why the difference in price/content.

The only bad thing about Endless Legend right now is that the multiplayer is pretty dead, not that I usually play these types of games for multiplayer (though I might starting with Stellaris!) But if that's your thing, you're probably better off with Civ V.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
thanks for the heads up

been meaning to try this... i hope it runs as well as Civ V does on my mac book pro retina from 2013

Loved this game. Vanilla version had so much going on, I never did play all the factions there. But the new one looks cool, maybe I'll jump back in with this. This game has a ton of good ideas going on.

Oh shit I had no idea this game had another expac coming. I love this game, best thing to come out of 4x since Alpha Centauri. Gotta check this out.

Totally agree. Fantastic strategy game, both innovative and streamlined, with an awesome focus on gameplay-complimentary narrative.

If you didn't see my mention of it in the OP, there's probably at least one more major expansion/update after this one coming later too, based on the way the roadmap is laid out here. There's two empty cards at the bottom. One must represent Shifters (and hasn't been filled in yet), but the other is likely something else to come afterwards.

Are there guides or something to this out there? I love 4x games but have never managed to get into Endless Legend, there's something about the starting game that really throws me.

Rumour has it that Amplitude are working on an aquatic-based faction, and will be adding naval combat and other sea-faring mechanics and shenanigans. Fingers crossed - this would round out the game nicely.

That would definitely be cool. Water stuff really is the only thing that's glaringly missing at this point with Shifters expanding on Winter. Part of the reason why I've never done island maps.

I don't know of any specific written guides, but here's some videos/channels I like that might help:

  • PANCZASU He just recently started making videos again after a 5-6 month absence. Has a few new "First Turns" guides that he's done in the past few weeks. Besides other tutorials/playthroughs. Expect Shifters content in the nearish future.
  • ArealFloodAdvisory -- (Tutorial Playlist) She has a soothing voice and is pretty good at explaining. Started streaming sometimes recently too @ https://www.twitch.tv/arealfloodadvisory
  • Arumba Has a couple playlists on the game. Pretty decent LPer.

There's a few more channels that have covered the game, but either don't have many videos or the videos are based on much older builds. eXplorminate, Civilization (Yogscast), Quill18 (one of my favorite LPers), TecToss (maybe belongs in the above section but I haven't watched many of his videos)

That's pretty much it.

Edit: There's this guide: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=407299720 for Civ V players migrating to Endless Legend that seems pretty decent.

Thanks for these. I just got the game yesterday and needed a starting point. I got the collection but I'm holding off on buying the Shifters until I learn the game some.

As much as I love this game (and it's usually the same with all 4X titles), I have issues committing to finishing a full match. Get distracted or bored in the mid-late game. Maybe I just need to put the game speed on the fastest setting.

Anyway, just mentioning that cause I've tested out the new faction, The Allayi, for a bit of a game or two. They really don't like expanding. Was bleeding dust and approval with only 2 cities before I got some improvements going. Part of the reason I stopped playing the one game though was because I got boxed in hardcore by the AI really quickly, having started out in a corner of the map.

Continuing though, the Skyfin is really good. Aspirate ability (to suck up resources in neutral territory) is fantastic, and they've got a lot of movement so they make great scouts. One you get from an early quest, but then the rest cost pearls. Another interesting thing about the Allayi is that it seems their basic city district requires pearls to be built, compared to other races which I don't believe have such a cost. Not sure if I like that, but it does force you to focus going more tall, as you couldn't keep up pearl-wise if you tried to go wide.

Finally, just a reminder that the sale ends in a little less than 29 hours as of this post. May bump again if I play some more later today, as I've yet to get very far with the new Altar of Auriga winter mechanics.
