Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

Is there any genre more "power fantasy" than when you're firing on all cylinders in a roguelike/lite? When luck is in your favor in this, and you get some awesome weapons, and some awesome passives to make those guns even more powerful, and then you're deftly diving over bullets while absolutely annihilating a room, it feels so good

I'm dying to get a Beehive + Shock Rounds combo

I am pretty sure that the stronger enemies on early floors as you play more thing is true. I am getting multiple waves of the really big pink sword dudes, the ghosts with the automatic rifles, wizards etc in the very first few rooms on the first floor now, which I am pretty sure did not happen when I first started with the game.

Argh, that moment when you get hit by a boss his last bullet for a perfect floor...

*Keeps playing while crying inside*

What do you mean? I play on PC with an Xbox one controller and it works flawlessly...

Explain it to me then. Do you flick your stick in a cardinal direction and then your character snaps on? Controls feel loose and floaty with anything but a mouse. I seriously cant seem to hit enemies at all with a controller. Always dying on the first room.

Aaaaarrgh I've been doing runs with the pilot to farm (shortcut sidequest spoilers)
3 keys and 120 bullets, but it's impossible. It's like the game knows I'm trying because I've had a grand total of 1 key drop in 6 runs!!! Wtf, as if it isn't bad enough I'm completely dependent on that shitty lockpick to even get a chance at a decent weapon. And even if I would get the 2 key drops, I would need to get lucky to even get 120 bullets together. Is it random how many bullets you get from enemies or something?

Don't forget about the friendly slime guy in the grate that sometimes appears in shops. You can unload items/guns into his grate and he'll give you bullets based on how good they are, so if your goal is to just get the 120 in a run you can get rid of your extra items/guns to make more money.

I know, but ofcourse he wasn''t there when I needed him :'-(

I usually get the 120 bullets together by just clearing every room but the damn keys just won't drop. Though yesterday the game managed to troll me by dropping a whopping 5 keys on the first floor and then killing me for trying to use one on a mimic. That was a good ragequit right there.

Maybe trying to go to the secret extra floor from the first floor could be a more reliable strategy, but with the two locks on it it seems like a risky gamble.

Is it just me, or does this game punish you for using shortcuts? It seems like every time I skip to floor 2, I'm hit with way more brutal enemy combinations. That, and the shop required a key to get in.

Holy hell managed to kill the Tank first time with the default gun no less!

That was intense.
Impressive. I beat the Tank on my first time too, but I had a really powerful arsenal and passives that filled the screen with bullets when I got damaged. It was a "death by thousand cuts" kind of win

I had one of those once, heart of ice iirc, are there more like it?

Also I'm hoping they'll adjust the way the dungeon is adapting to your progress. Currently spending way too much time on the first floor compared to previously. And entering a room and having to kill 5 marge simpsons + their reinforcements with my default gun multiple times before the boss is not really fun.

Flick? You hold the stick in the direction of your target because it's a twin stick shooter. I believe the aim assist makes it so you don't have to be pointing perfectly at the enemy to shoot straight at it. I think it works great.

The game dealt me a really good hand: homing bullets, stinger, Thompson and some other nice passives. Then I found Blockner on level 3 for the first time and thought "what can that little fucker do". I was down on HP and was too stingy with my coins. I would have crushed him if I had bought some HP. I hated myself when I saw that loosing screen. So unnecessary

Heh, now I managed to gather (shortcut sidequest)
more than 120 bullets and 3 keys before I even got to chamber 2 :p. And I didn't even need to sell anything. The money and key droprates are so random. But now I need 10 spacebucks aaaargh. I'm starting to think this shortcut isn't worth it.

Nope, the shortcut isn't worth it besides the satisfying sense of completion and that feeling of accomplishment when an achievement pops.
And btw, you are not done with the ten spacebucks

Yeah, at this point I'm just doing it because I can... It's not like I'll ever use it... I'm dreading to find out what I'll need to gather for the other shortcuts. Btw, I already gave him
the special bullet you get for beating the boss without getting hit before I gave him all the other stuff. Was that the thing you ment or does he still need something else?

I got to the end of the 2nd chamber with 2 keys and 130 bullets. Shop had a key for 20 so I bought that, then just needed to make up 10 from the leftover chambers and boss.

Got 2 from the last room and a whopping 4 from the boss.

So 3 keys, 116 bullets and the shortcut guy just doesn't give a fuck.

Nope, thats what I meant. That is kind of a nice gesture that you don't have to give him the things in order. It's not that he is any kind of cheap, but in other games he would even be more of a bitch about it.

Yeah, I really feel like the key/money thing needs to be balanced a bit more. It gets kinda ridiculous on the first few floors.

Really recommend rolling the dice on the statues/totems. Got a speed upgrade, really helps to get a flawless on the bosses, got the 3 first no problem (even the tank dude), you get so much distance and dodge ability.

Got to the 4th level boss with six health and 2 armor.
First encounter with the wall boss, nowhere to run, was dead before I got half it's health.

Seems really hard, if not RNG is on your side it seems impossible, ie can you complete a run on a "bad" run? Guess time will tell.

Bah, lost to the 5th floor boss when it had like 1/8th health left. Almost completed the
Bullet That Can Kill the Past
too. Do I have to gather the ingredients again, or only the last one that I didn't give her? It was a pain going through
the invisible pathway using only my acid roll ability to find the path
.

It does say it's "over many lives", so yes you don't need to do that in a single run. ;)

Alternatively, the first time I used the D20 shrine I got ammo restored on all my weapons (which were mostly junk anyways) and in return I had my one good weapon (the Scrambler) removed. There is a fair amount of risk/reward to the shrine. Seems like it'll do one good thing for you and one bad thing. I personally don't feel like it's worth rolling if you've got a strong run going.

You can bring the ingredients in multiple trips, thankfully. Once you deliver one you'll see a statue in the Breach that includes each piece you've retrieved so far.

The NLSS just learned me that
you can sell the junk item to the frog in the grate for 50 bullets. I wish I knew that before doing 50 runs trying to complete that shortcut quest.

How does the shortcut guy work? He said to meet him on the second floor elevator, but I've never seen him.

Drop down the shaft the entrance lift leaves on the second floor.

I can't tell whether or not the number of bullets you get from him is based on the quality of the gun or if it's completely random. I dropped off a Lil Bomber and got 16 bullets, but the shock rifle gave me 30. I also think I dumped the Convict's starting sawed-off at one point and didn't get too much for it. Any idea which gun it was that gave NL 50 bullets?

Is there anything that affects money drop rate? Trying to get the second shortcut is the worst. Had 112/3 keys at the end of the last attempt :(

I meant the actual Junk item, what you get when you shoot a chest sometimes. Apparently you can go to your map screen, select the junk item and press the drop button that appears in the top left.

Oops, sorry, I completely missed that part from your post. That sounds super helpful. I knew you could drop other passive items but never tried before. Makes me wanna go around dropping everything in there now to see the payouts.

A few quick questions:

1. What does the star in the gun's icon mean?
2. Are there any considerations for speed in a run? Don't be specific, just yes or no.

The star is what you currently have equipped. I don't know about the second question.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but most of the guns I've got so far have felt very weak. Even if they have a cool feature to them, it'll still take almost all of it's ammo to kill one boss. And when ammo drops are scarce, it can make things pretty frustrating.

Drops in general have been spotty for me. Is there any trick to them? I rarely get anything after a room clear.

Yeah, most of the weapons make for quite a bit of bullet sponge gameplay. I play as the Marine and it seems his default pistol is just as strong/effective as many of the pickup guns.

Usually I end up destroying the item and getting junk, but I think there's a slim chance you get an item. I got health once.

Even if its junk thats better than leaving the chest because you have no keys and the floor is done, you can sell the junk to the sewer mutant I assume

Be fucking careful though for mimics

I finally saw one the other day

ALMOST beat Tank, fuuuuuck. First time reaching level 3 too

I just lost a good run to Tank. It wasn't that bad but my best gun,
the coind gun with a hammer at the end
, ran out in the middle of the fight. It was the second time I got to the 3rd floor boss since my first run.

So I just bought this on a lark, half expecting to refund because I NEVER enjoy any roguelikes (Spelunky, Binding, etc, etc).... and fuuuuck I am impressed. The presentation is just absolutely over the top, it feels incredible to do anything, and I haven't seen pixel-art-based shooting and environmental destruction since Hotline Miami.

Really impressed, this was a game I never knew I needed until I played it. So, so good thus far.

I barely make it to the second floor. I have almost eight hours in the game. Second chamber then just owns me lol.

I've got the first floor on lockdown - I can pretty much always beat the first boss without any issues. The second floor is my nightmare though, have only reached the boss once. It's those stupid iron maiden enemies - 90% of my second floor deaths have been to them.

I have two guns with stars on them currently so that doesn't make sense.

I think the stars mean tapping control will switch between those two guns. To access your other weapons, you'll have to hold control and scroll through.

Yep, this is me to a tee. I can ace the first floor but the second just wears me down, especially those damned iron maidens. Haven't figured out any reliable way to take them on yet.

The weapon you have equipped has a star, and then when you select another weapon by holding down triangle, that weapon is "equipped" too. Then you can press triangle quickly in order to switch between those two weapons only.

Edit:

I've gotten to the 5th floor boss, but I still have trouble with these. They just take too long to beat if you play save, and it can be hard to avoid their bullet sometimes. I usually just use a couple shots of my best boss killer gun to beat them and save time.

You have to have a good weapon by the time you face one is basically what it boils down to for me. The one time I got to the boss, I had the Serious Cannon which wrecked the maidens in one/two shots.

The starting weapons or any low powered weapons just don't do enough damage because I'm too busy scrambling to avoid their attacks instead of firing at them.
