Paulo: if you put an "L" (either case) before the image extension in the imgur url, it'll resize it to a more viewable size.

just a protip for the thread in general i guess

Thanks. I edited the post. As I am seeing the mobile version, I'm not sure if worked correctly.

question for the pros. is it okay to use colors and very simple graphics on your resume/cv? i was told by staff reviewing my resume at my school to not use color, graphics, or horizontal/vertical lines and i'm kind of feeling like James McGill right now lol. they want me to follow some dull, grey templates.

this is not the right thread for this question. maybe go to the arts thread?

I need to get back into drawing, but I got so much on my plate already: editing, writing a short story for a contest, writing my book, working on my game, and learning how to compose music.

Also someone wants me to do a commission for them and I though I need the money I wonder when I'll have the time.

Sweet portraits Olympia! I can see you brought in what you learned in the studies to the image of your bf.

This is an image that goes somewhat with the bonfire drawing I posted previously.

I bought some prisma pencils for cheap. I never really color with pencils but thought I would give it a try. Doing an Earthbound drawing. Trying to keep the look of the game intact. THis is about 1/3 of what the final composition will be.

I feel like I've not posted here in ages. 2016 really fucking sucks so far. Art wise it's been okay but everything else has been awful.

wip of what I've been working on the last couple days. His name is SAM and he is in a comic I do. I hope everyone else is having a better year than me.

Illustration of Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest I just finished a few minutes ago.

Which was done to compliment my tribute illustration of Phife I did a few weeks back when he passed away.

I will be doing the two remaining members, Jarobi & Ali-Shaheed, in the same style and size eventually as well.

it's been a while since i posted in here but i have been drawing every day. i'm doing a mentorship with kalen chock and anthony jones. i'm working on getting faster, but here's what i've been working on. a lot of it needs to be redone but i thought i'd share my progress.

Man I sure can use a mentor myself since I feel like artistic my potential is still locked away somewhere inside me and I lack the discipline to do several drawings a day. Can't afford to pay for a mentorship at the moment though. Feng Zhu's Design Cinema podcast on what to draw was a sobering reminder on how much hard work drawing is.

I may actually have one in the form of an artist I'm doing social media work for through my boss as she's her client. She has a studio and is preparing for a solo art show next month. I'll ask her more questions next time I see her. Any way, this way off-topic. I'll post a few things I've been doing after I get home.

I can't draw comics and i'm pretty bad with anatomy, etc. I'm pretty jelly when other people can draw so good all these characters from different angles.

But i'm good with abstract shit that doesn't make sense. And im happy with my shading. That's my best work so far i think

I copied some areas from the Ghost in the Shell comic by the way, i'm sure you will recognize :P

Fixed.. ;)

Can't is defeatist language. Anyone can learn how to do any drawing medium. Anatomy is definitely tough but if you master the basics of it, you draw anything. It would take lots of drawing from life to get better at it.

Also, as someone who's done abstract paintings, I do share your sentiment about abstract art being more liberating in that sense since there is no right or wrong and is open to interpretation.

Any way, some of the last few things I've done:

WIP: Cover for my alma mater's comic book publication based on a reference image that was provided. I'm inking/coloring it digitally in Manga Studio 5 for a change even though I'm staunchly against it to challenge myself. I still want to ink/color the original traditionally and donate it to them at some point. Perspective is not my strongest point but I try and do like it.

Thanks man, it's been progressing. I lurk a lot of the time. I need to take on a few new projects to flesh it out. Got a few ideas for some projects and my boss wants me to do some promotional art for some future events.

On the topic of drawing mothers on Mother's Day, here's one I did a few mins ago of my mom while having lunch with the bros:

Oh look, I finally got off my lazy butt and onto my less lazy butt to draw something!
I was planning to draw gay stuff, but I ended up just drawing one dude with plants. >_>
He's more like an angry asexual with sensual streak.

Something like 5 hours!
One day I will finalize his tattoo designs and random jewellery and piercings, but today is not the day!

^ You know how I feel about these kinds of men Prax ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) you should post more often.

portrait of my mom! :)

Very beautiful woman and excellent brush strokes!

Things are a bit better now in a way I guess. Trying to stay positive. I finished the cover for the prelude of the comic which I'm happy with.

Not calculated the time for this one yet. I'll finally be able to post the first pages on Thursday. At first I was completely unhappy with it but I got talking to a really close and old friend who convinced me to finish it up.

^ Hweheheh yeah.. One day I'll be abel to commission a full juicy painting of one of thems from you! XD
Looking forward to your pages!!! Perfectionism is.. a hard hurdle to deal with..

As for me.. i am dying..

I spent 10 hours on this, it feels like.. just trying to.. fiddle with the lineart. I am bad at perspectiev and furnishings and stuff.. And my friend is yelling at me to add shirts an dpants strewn about so my tribulatiosn are not yet over..

you can tell from my typos i am starving and tired

FIVE HOURS LATER AND STILL NOWEHERE..

Hey guys, decided that saying "I'll start drawing tomorrow!" for the last year hasn't made me any better at drawing, so I manage to get an absolute bargain on a wacom on ebay and it finally arrived today!

I want to try and join in on this thread, but obviously because I have literally just started, I'm pretty trash. Not sure what to even attempt to draw to be honest.

Anywho... I look forward to submitting some terribad fan art of something soon, also look forward to the future feedback. Pretty sure I'm posting this to hold myself accountable to practicing, because while I find it fun so far, even getting the strokes I want is difficult as all hell :| I'm sure I'll get better in time though.

Anyway, I hope to post stuff soon.

^ YES JOIN US IN OUR STRUGGELS. lol

A MILLION HOURS LATER,, (about 22 or something ridiculous like that..)
I gave up on trying to shade the plants (or even trying to make them good). haha

Some fantastic work in here as always. I really need to contribute some more myself.

Side note, if any GAFer is interested in a little digital inking commercial work on the side, please PM me. I have a bunch of character pencils I've done that have been high res scanned in, that basically need to be trace inked over digitally, so I can later colour them myself. I've already done a couple of the inks myself but don't really have time to do the rest atm, so willing to pay for it to be done. Hit me up if you have the spare time and are up for the job!

I'll probably be interested since I've been looking to further develop my digital inking skills and enjoy doing it. Between working for a start up and juggling an internship as well as personal life stuff, I have time and would definitely like some side work. Will shoot you a PM.

Speaking of inking stuff, I finished the cover for my alma mater's student comic book publication after many hours and a last minute rush to meet the deadline yesterday. I learned the wonders of the rotation command since it makes life so much easier coloring very tricky spots.

It's not done yet since the editor in chief wants some additional tweaks to the colors since they're too bright (I agree) so I'll post an updated version of it at a later point. I was looking at The New Yorker magazine covers and Killing and Dying by Adrian Tomine for color references.

The other thing I spent a couple of hours on last week was a self-portrait in light of the Free Portrait Drawing thread being on my mind and I really loved the composition of this shot:

Apologies for the potato camera quality since I uploaded it directly to my Twitter. Definitely want to ink/color it traditionally in addition to scanning it in with the base ink done in case I want to work on it digitally. I don't think Muji pens are giving me the bold lines that I want so probably will use fine liner pens.

Here's a thing I started back on Sunday and finished up yesterday:

Have I ever told you guys that I hate drawing environments? Cause I really, really hate it. It's nothing but pure math. Put that figure there in the middle to help keep my sanity lol

edit: Unfortunately I can't scan it because it's a 11x14 image and my scanner only does 8x10 >.>

First time visiting this thread and there's a lot of awesomeee pieces! GAF drawing talent at their best! Such a nice place to try and improve our skills. Here's some of my humble portraits I drew everyday as an excercise. I have dozens of this but will only post three for now. Done with pencil and ink on paper :)
