"Quantum Break is now the best-selling new Microsoft Studios IP this generation"

Combination of both: lack of return investment on the IP(still in the air) if it doesn't make profit for them and MS cutting fat like crazy with studio closings(Lionhead being the recent one).

Remedy is completely fine. MS would be stupid to drop them, someone else would immediately if they did. These guys created Max Payne ffs.

Remedy is a very talented bunch, even though I think QB was a misfire in a lot of ways. But if we are going to talk about studios and sales, let's try to keep our perspective.

That list will look better soon with ReCore, Scalebound, and Sea of Thieves just around the corner.
When are these games supposed to be releasing? ReCore was supposed to be out by now but there's 0 in-game footage. Scalebound's delayed to next year, and Sea of Thieves?

Good to hear positive reaction to the game from a sales perspective.
Some of you really do get worked up over some spin from the PR and marketing divisions of these companies.

Its pretty cute, really :)
What's more cute, blindly accepting the PR nonsense or questioning it?

Depends how Microsoft Studio's defines a "Mega Hit" I suppose. WW sales in the hundreds of thousands?

I'm pretty sure Ryse topped 1mil lifetime. So if QB topped it after 6 days on the market, I'd say that's pretty good for a new IP.

It seems to me that people are trying harder to spin this info bad/mediocre news.
This is too much.

Interesting, but that early result could be attributed to both Xbox 360 and PS4's greater market presence in that region.

X1 user base now is greater than Ps4's when the order launched. Game isn't doing so hot but I don't think many expected it too at least as we got closer to launch.

So what exactly does this mean, did it to well?

Cuse some of those other games were kinda bomba. As someone who works in retail - at least in our district this didn't do gangbusters at all. Shame cuse I love Remedy.

We don't really need to review all the studios that were creating some of the biggest and best-selling IP 15-20 years ago that have closed since, do we?

PR gonna PR. Stop the world I wanna get off lol

Just seems people take this all a bit too seriously, some people seem annoyed or upset by it.

My tiny mind can't comprehend getting worked up over something so trivial. I suppose everyone has a fight to win at some point. Carry on analysing and debating the merits and content of a throwaway PR piece :)

'MS to drop them'? Remedy is an independent developer. They can do whatever they want next. Microsoft doesn't own Remedy.

When there's genuinely positive news to share, I don't think they want the instinctive reaction to be "this is bullshit again."

Probably did well, but not well enough to just give us a figure.

I can always count on Microsoft's PR and some members here to give me good laughs. The game sold 28k on UK and there's a guy here saying that it beat Ryse's 1 million figure, how can someone think that.

Well, a lot of games sold less then The Order 1886 in the first week, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
Until dawn and Bloodborne(?) both under 40k first week right?

Don't know for Until Dawn, but Bloodborne was 42k with smaller PS4 install base than Xbone is now for QB.

I'm happy for two reasons:

1. Quantum Break is doing well for Remedy potentially making it a franchise for them.
2. Every copy of Quantum Break came with Alan Wake so that means more people own Alan Wake and a bigger chance of getting a new Alan Wake game!

This thread is turning into another shit sales thread. Can we go back to discussing cool things in the game? The FX are crazy impressive, I want to know how they handled all the rippling effects.

I mean, it is a sales thread, there are other QB threads for discussion about the game itself.

That's what the OT is for.

Unless you're talking about rippling effects from PR statements?

Why do they do this? Why make a statement which on the face of it is a nice puff piece but very quickly when compared to numbers not only portrays the subject of the puff piece - QB - in a not so favourable light but also cheapens all their other new IP's this gen through direct comparison. It makes the whole lot look like a joke.

Because it's PR. There is only a tiny percentage of an intended audience who will analyse a tweet to death or rip apart a couple of paragraphs in a statement. The vast majority of the intended audience see the headline and think 'good numbers, might check that out.'

The world isn't GAF thankfully/unfortunately;)

Congrats I guess.

But why are Sunset Overdrive and Ryse being used for comparison? As far as I'm aware Microsoft doesn't own those IPs.

It's pretty crazy how poorly MS new IP attempts have done this gen. Sony isn't much better, but I also get the impression their games are more budget conscious than Microsofts (except The Order, which was likely in the same ball park as this). Nintendo hit gold with Splatoon, but also suffered some atrocious bombs like W101 and #FE (Japan sales only but the west is not saving this game).

New IP is hard.

Congrats I guess.

They published and launched those IPs with the developers (same as QB), both are AAA games which is a good comparison for Quantum Break.

PR reps gotta earn too I guess. Might as well practice some spin when you've got nothing but down time on your hands.

You read that announcement and you actually assumed that Quantum Break sold one million units in the first six days?

I think you might be the perfect audience for Microsoft PR.

Also when sales are low aren't Pubs usually just silent (sure, it's a deafening silence but still...) rather than desperately trying to paint the news positively?

I've always found this odd about MS PR. At least it's entertaining though.

Man, this thread is really embarrassing.

just wow at some of the posts.

Anyway, hope the game ends up being a sucess for Remedy/MS. Was going to buy it at launch but gonna wait for them to fix (IF they will fix it) the PC version.

Congrats to Remedy and Microsoft!! Now bring on Sea of Thieves!

MS know global sales, its number 1 this week in the UK. They wanted a Ryse sequel from Crytek (and QB has outsold it so far) so I don't think there is much that is "desperate" about that
