Had the exact same problem and I haven't found a reliable solution so far, sadly. The game is telling me there is an error and it seems to be causing the game to play with no sound, any ideas?

Sometimes a Steam restart works, others have had success with re-installing visual c++ from the redist folder or (if you're running Windows 8) using Windows 7 compability mode.
GAF, is there a way to disable the stupid framerate counter in the lower right corner of the screen? If I was concerned about the framerate, I'd just use Fraps.
They're a 4-man team, so I guess so. It's one of my biggest complaints about the game. If you've been gaming on PC for a bit longer, this is how it used to be in a lot of games in the 90s. xD
One of you two has to check your public IP and give that to the other person (a simple google search "what is my IP?" will give you that info). The port has to be open, so just try to use the default.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to manually open that port (or any other one you select) in your router settings. Again, a google search can help you with that. It's a bit of a pain when you're used to a more modern, streamlined experience, but it's neither rocket science nor should it take longer than a couple minutes to set up once.
It's definitely a lot of fun to play in co-op!
Should I be playing this game with kb+m or a controller? Also, it says on Steam there's local co-op - can anybody describe how it works? Splitscreen or single-screen?
Something's up with this game's netcode or something. Tried for three hours to forward the port and still failed to actually have a friend connect.
I've port forwarded successfully on games for years, ran my own Minecraft server, etc. But Risk of Rain simply refuses to work. Also refuses to work on Hamachi, which we both setup specifically for this game in a last-ditch attempt to play.
Indie game, 4 man team, etc., I know. But this is 2014. Simple co-op shouldn't be this horridly annoying.

I play it just fine with KB+M, honestly. I couldn't imagine it with a controller. The buttons would be too far apart for what I do.
I just want to say I freaking love this game and its ost!
Mega bump, but I finally beat this today (single player).
What a rush.
I actually did it on my very first run-through as engineer. It played more to my strengths, and I literally got 5x Goat Hooves for incredible run speed. Turrets + Mines + Run Speed = God.Now do it as Mercenary on Monsoon. I clocked about 100 minutes on it, shit was crazy.Boar Beach is your friend.
Its rather bizarre seeing a game made by your brother made become so big and loved by so many people!
He worked (and is still working) hard though![]()
Has anything notable been added to the game since launch? Played through it a couple times then and think I want to get some co-op runs going again sometime in the near future, but am unsure if there's new stuff to look forward to or not.
They added artifacts and there is a planned update fixing more bugs, improving performance, converting it to Game Maker: Studio etc.
everytime anyone dies the healthbar disappears for the next round. is there a fix for this?
Oh man. I need to get that class opened up,
Will it be cross-buy?I know some people are waiting for the PS4/PS3/Vita port so good news:
There a release date on the Vita version?
Will it be cross-buy?
(I just bought the PC/Steam version. Can't wait to dive in...)
Seems like it wasn't fixed yet, unfortunately. Wish I could play co-op.This game is awesome!
Any chance the developer is fixing the Online Co-op anytime soon?
What's wrong with it? My friend and I finished the game hundreds of times.Over a year later and still busted? Blah!

My apologies, it does seem like the online is working fine, I just didn't know how to properly use it.What's wrong with it? My friend and I finished the game hundreds of times.
How's that? The only thing I can think of is that you have to join at the beginning, but it's a roguelike. My apologies, it does seem like the online is working fine, I just didn't know how to properly use it.
In my defense, the multiplayer system is extremely outdated in this game.
