Risk of Rain (Steam): Side-scrolling Binding of Isaac

Randomly played for two hours last night after not touching it for a month randomly. Still an excellent game.

Also bought the soundtrack on Bandcamp (only 5 bucks). It's great.

So is there a steam group or something for neogaf co-op? Would love to play this game with some other people. I don't think I could get my roommates into it for more than a few plays.

The game is telling me there is an error and it seems to be causing the game to play with no sound, any ideas?

Had the exact same problem and I haven't found a reliable solution so far, sadly.

Sometimes a Steam restart works, others have had success with re-installing visual c++ from the redist folder or (if you're running Windows 8) using Windows 7 compability mode.

So I realized that my Nivida drivers hadn't been updated and I updated them and it's all good. I know how stupid. You might want to try doing the same.

GAF, is there a way to disable the stupid framerate counter in the lower right corner of the screen? If I was concerned about the framerate, I'd just use Fraps.

They're a 4-man team, so I guess so. It's one of my biggest complaints about the game. If you've been gaming on PC for a bit longer, this is how it used to be in a lot of games in the 90s. xD

One of you two has to check your public IP and give that to the other person (a simple google search "what is my IP?" will give you that info). The port has to be open, so just try to use the default.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to manually open that port (or any other one you select) in your router settings. Again, a google search can help you with that. It's a bit of a pain when you're used to a more modern, streamlined experience, but it's neither rocket science nor should it take longer than a couple minutes to set up once.

It's definitely a lot of fun to play in co-op!

Something's up with this game's netcode or something. Tried for three hours to forward the port and still failed to actually have a friend connect.

I've port forwarded successfully on games for years, ran my own Minecraft server, etc. But Risk of Rain simply refuses to work. Also refuses to work on Hamachi, which we both setup specifically for this game in a last-ditch attempt to play.

Indie game, 4 man team, etc., I know. But this is 2014. Simple co-op shouldn't be this horridly annoying.

Should I be playing this game with kb+m or a controller? Also, it says on Steam there's local co-op - can anybody describe how it works? Splitscreen or single-screen?

I play it just fine with KB+M, honestly. I couldn't imagine it with a controller. The buttons would be too far apart for what I do.

I have the same problem with multiplayer in Risk of Rain. I love the game in single-player but it's a shame their multiplayer connectivity is ass-backwards. Steam matchmaking is fucking free and there's really no excuse not to include it.

Both work perfectly fine. Just use whatever feels more comfortable.

Coop is single screen. If the other player falls off a cliff, they won't be able to see anything except a little marker indicating their position. They say that with the engine they use they can't do split-screen.

The game was updated to version 1.1.1 and the artifacts are added to the game. What I find strange is no release notes neither on the game site or steamcommunity.

I just want to say I freaking love this game and its ost!

Now that I had my time in Drizzle diff, I went on to Normal one - where stats are saved, logs drop,...
I had RoR for a long time, but today was first serious investment in weeks again.

I can see the gamepad vs kbm discussion here and I play it with 360pad and have no problems.

Also if anyone would like to try online coop sometimes, let me know via PM.

Grabbed this on the cheap in the last steam sale. I think it's a pretty good game, but my co-op buddy fell in love with it. I am pretty sure she has managed 100 hours or so in the game at this point.

Now do it as Mercenary on Monsoon. I clocked about 100 minutes on it, shit was crazy.
Boar Beach is your friend.
I actually did it on my very first run-through as engineer. It played more to my strengths, and I literally got 5x Goat Hooves for incredible run speed. Turrets + Mines + Run Speed = God.

Its rather bizarre seeing a game made by your brother made become so big and loved by so many people!

He worked (and is still working) hard though :)

Send my congratulations to your brother! RoR is a very addictive game that got me hooked me for quite some time, I can't wait for the new content to drop and play the new classes.

Has anything notable been added to the game since launch? Played through it a couple times then and think I want to get some co-op runs going again sometime in the near future, but am unsure if there's new stuff to look forward to or not.

I know some people are waiting for the PS4/PS3/Vita port so good news:

Also a preview for the two new classes:

They added artifacts and there is a planned update fixing more bugs, improving performance, converting it to Game Maker: Studio etc.

Surprised to see this thread pop up; I just did a few co-op run throughs a couple of days ago!

RoR is a fun little brawler (especially in co-op) but the ONE THING that gets me about this game is the whack-a-mole you have to play once you survive the teleport timer! I am annoyed every single time. I killed all the guys that spawned in during the survival challenge, I shouldn't have to go hunt down those 2 enemies that spawned off screen half way across the map, then walk all the way back to the teleporter to get to the next level! And often if you try to play it straight and kill everything that appears as you explore, when the difficulty starts climbing you actually can't kill the spawns fast enough to move anywhere (before more spawn in) and you just fight forever.

The game should really flag the guys that spawn in during the teleporter event and make THOSE the only ones you need to kill. Sweeping through and having to clean up the trash (and back), especially as a slow moving class, kills all momentum.

This game is awesome!

Any chance the developer is fixing the Online Co-op anytime soon?
Seems like it wasn't fixed yet, unfortunately. Wish I could play co-op.

Anyways, this game is incredible. I finished it twice today, first with the Commando and then with the Acrid. I plan to finish with the other chars too, except Sniper perhaps.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Over a year later and still busted? Blah!

Definite buy for Vita.

Would love it if it was cross-buy PS4, but will happily settle for just the portable version day 1.

The soundtrack to this game is superb. Double Fucking Rainbow is just so pumpalicious.

My apologies, it does seem like the online is working fine, I just didn't know how to properly use it.

In my defense, the multiplayer system is extremely outdated in this game.
How's that? The only thing I can think of is that you have to join at the beginning, but it's a roguelike.

Is anybody on GAF still playing this and would be interested in setting up a co-op session? Timing could prove tricky, since I'm based in Japan.
