RIP Warcraft.
I think the opening weekend will be less than DOFP no matter how good it is because 1. It's opening the same day as the Alice sequel when the original made a billion and 2. Same month as Civil War when that will be huge.
It's got an uphill fight against it. The week after that is the TMNT sequel which won't be good for legs either. They picked a poor time to release it even if it is Memorial Day weekend.
RIP Warcraft.
Yeah Alice doesn't seem to have much buzz at all. That's true.I don't see Alice making too big a dent with this one. Of course, Civil War might actually hurt X-Men more than we think in the end. It is coming only a few weeks prior, and even if most of the gas will be out of the tank by then, since it seems to be well received already could dampen enthusiasm for X-Men.
DoFP was coming a few weeks after the disappointing ASM2 in 2014, so that might have helped it. Who knows.
But Alice just seems like something that will kinda come and go like a mild fart. It will make its presence known, then quickly dissipate into the air.
I think that is too high on Warcraft. Movie is going to be a complete disaster domestically. I could see something like a 15-18 mil opening weekend and doing 50-60 mil total.Updates from Boxoffice.com's long range projections
The Huntsman was bumped down to $28M opening/$68M total. We'll get their final prediction on Wednesday, but WOM seems pretty weak.
Their prediction for Civil War was bumped up to $182M opening/$490M total.
Warcraft, The Conjuring 2, and Now You See Me 2 were added for the first time.
Box office is giving Warcraft an initial $35M OW/$78M total prediction. NYSM2 got $23M opening/$65M total (the first film opened to $29M, and made close to $120M). The Conjuring got $45M opening and $105M total.
The Doctor Strange trailer is an ad on YouTube now which kinda inflates views. And the first trailer for Apocalypse still has a ton of views. Only about 5 million off from the first Civil War trailer. I don't think Apocalypse will do as well as Deadpool or Days of Future Past but it should at least still be the third highest grossing X-Men film. If it's not third best, then Fox will probably hit the panic button and have Deadpool or Wolverine in all X filmsThe fact that the Doc Strange teaser is just 3 million views off the last Apoc trailer in less than a week is weird. There really doesn't seem to be much interest. No Wolverine, no old cast seems to hurt.
Fox is going to have to pull a Marvel and screen it a month early to critics, with at least a 3 week lift of the embargo before release imo.
$28 million is higher than I expected for Huntsman

Has he had any success outside of Marvel? Seems like he's only been in bombsYikes. Poor Hemsworth.

Do we know the budget of Ratchet and Clank? Wonder if it's actually going to be one of the biggest bombs of the year.

This "easy/hard sell" must be a new meme.
Totally forgot he was in that lol.Rush was great and then I guess there's Star Trek which he was only in for like 10 minutes haha.
Cabin in the Woods is my personal fave Hemsworth appearance.Totally forgot he was in that lol.

Apocalypse isn't a recognizable villain for anyone who doesn't read comics or hasn't seen the show.I dunno about Apocalypse. It is coming off the most successful X-Men team film (I had to add the team modifier because of Deadpool), and was one of the most well received entries in the series and comic films of the last several years.
Add in the addition of a recognizable bad guy for most people (even if Apocalypse sucks), and the same creative team as DoFP, and it has just about everything going for it.
I think it will set the opening weekend record for an X-Team film at least. After that, it is all about how well the film turns out. I think the opening weekend will be big because of the goodwill that DoFP gave them.
Shit, I am ready for Singer to do whatever he wants after finally giving me a worthy sequel to X2 after more than a decade.
Wouldn't really bother me if Pixar never makes an original movie again tbh, since personally I've moved on from seeing Pixar as some unique flower of a studio working on amazing creative works. Disney Animation Studios has been showing them up for a while now I feel. Both creatively and commercially.
I care more about filmmakers than studio brands. It would certainly be depressing if Brad Bird never made an original movie again. But since he can do live action as well now, it's probably not a huge issue for him. I'm not really seeing there being an epidemic of creative talent being stuck working on franchise stuff which is a waste of their talent. Look at the people who actually direct Marvel and DC films, and I don't think anyone can honestly say "they're being wasted on that" when most of the directors are actually getting opportunities to boost their own profile working on these films before moving on. No one is really stuck on them.
Not that weird. It's better than people say but it's very not as good as Inside Out.
I don't know what to think of Apocalypse.
Feels like the movie has no hype at all.
Has he had any success outside of Marvel? Seems like he's only been in bombs
Nobody would be complaining about that if the movie was actually good. How boring is it for a filmmaker to be locked in to rules. "Batman doesn't kill"
Sobody would be complaining about that if the movie was actually good.
See: Tim Burton's Batman.
Isn't X-Men going to be Cyclops, Beast, Jean Grey vs Storm, Psylocke, Angel? One thing Xmen has going for it is that maybe after half a year of hearing about heroes fighting heroes, people just want a good okd good vs evil rock em sock em without the subversion and manipulation.
Cabin in the Woods is my personal fave Hemsworth appearance.

Team superhero movies just can't get away from this year's theme.
damn....didnt realise The Good Dinosaur flopped, $330m gross on a $200m budget. Really weird after the success of Inside Out
Universal praying the Chinese love Warcraft. Only thing that will save this movie now.
It's a really bad/mediocre story, with great visuals. It was in a development hell. They should've jsut scrapped it. It's the shittiest Pixar movie.
I doubt anyone gets excited over it. Too bad for Duncan Jones. I like his movies.
I, and my friends are looking forward to this movie. I will predict that the movie will be successful WW.
It's also 5 years too late.
It's a really bad/mediocre story, with great visuals. It was in a development hell. They should've just scrapped it. It's the shittiest Pixar movie.
That's a bold statement considering Cars 2 exists.

I haven't seen it, but I think the trailers looking horrible didn't help the film. With that I mean the huge disconnect between the world (organic and detailed) and it's characters (very cartoony and simple).
I grew up with Pixar and was a massive fan as a kid, but honestly feel they are way too overrated. Even though other studios definitely have worse track records when the whole output is taken together, I feel the best animation features haven't been from Pixar for a long while now.
Yikes. Poor Hemsworth.
Ha! Forgot that too.Cabin in the Woods is my personal fave Hemsworth appearance.

Inside Out is one of my favorite movies in recent years. Without Mad Max and Sicario it would've been my 2015 MOTY. Then there's The Little Prince and Zootopia. Both absolutely fabulous but not Pixar movies.
I don't know. Pixar is one of my favorite studios, but now Disney is making a huge comeback as they're ditching the singalongs. I really hate singalongs. I didn't like Frozen at all because of all that singing.
All I can say is that it's good to be an animation fan these days.![]()
I imagine Ghostbusters would of dragged itself down with or without Hemsworth. Will he drag Ghostbusters down with him?.
Their Conjuring 2 prediction feels a little low. When a 'cheap and cheerful' spin off in Annabelle ends up with $84m domestic I think that a well reviewed Conjuring sequel could easily out gross the original ($130m+) and become the horror film of the summer.
Can't forget Angry Birds.WoW or Ratchet
Or both
