I was wrong about the party: Final Fantasy X

Always loved FFX, and I liked FFX-2 a lot when I was younger too.

Played through the PS3 version of FFX last year and adored it all over again. But FFX-2, I just can't get past the overall tone and mission structure of it. I dislike it strongly, even though the battle system is so good, almost everything else is a huge departure from what made FFX great to me.

I also hated FFX when it came out. the voice acting, the leap from pre-rendered to full 3d, I dunno what else but I hated the game so much.
I played it again maybe 5 years ago for whatever reason, and thought it was a pretty great game; and then was stoked when XHD came out on the PS3. still haven't hit up X-2.

still haven't beat XII. that was a chore that I gave up on after 30+ hours.

FFX is great but its the only FF that I didn't enjoy the post-game/pre-final boss content. The ultimate weapon requirements were annoying.

I'll take the goofy characters with some mixed in bad voice acting and crazy sense of fashion over this:

But, but, but I heard that modern gamers do not enjoy games with turn-based battle systems.
WTF, OP you can't like this!

(It's a great game. Enjoy!)

God damn kids.

Yea I think the worst thing about the game is the over-tedious end-game content. Just too much grinding.

The end game content grinding is bearable because you can actually feel the difference a few STR nodes make as you make that steady climb up to 99,999 damage.

What's frustrating is that the ultimate weapons are locked behind buggy RNG minigames. You should be rewarded fairly for time investment, but the chocobo obstacle course and avoiding 200 lightning strikes in a row is just incredibly poorly designed.

It's kind of like how FF13's post game revolved around getting 2.5% drop rate items from adamantoise who take an eternity to kill without having ultimate weapons already in your possession, so you could just sit there all day never seeing the drop you need until you finally ask "wtf am I doing with my life".

Yeah, actually FFXIII's was annoying as well, but I tolerated it because the potential of the battle system finally comes to fruition in the endgame content. Its unfortunate they made it so you would be farming those damn adamantoises for hours and hours.

The don tonberry AP trick really helps out a lot in speeding up the process, if you do it right you can get 99 spheres in a really short time though the worst part about min maxing is replacing all the crappy spheres with +4 ones. Though you do have to beat specific enemies in the monster arena for it and it can get extremely tedious.

I do think FFX gets better the second time you play it... (I don't think this is a spoiler BUT for the sake of newcomers...)
Knowing the purpose of the pilgrimage makes the whole game a bit more melancholic, and everytime tidus talks about the future is a stab in the feels... It makes you understand why he's important there, is that glimmer of hope in a doomed journey, but it also hurts knowing how it ends :T
It's a great game, he's very well written, and I love how they work with religion there, the battle system is pure gold too

But really, everyone who has finished it should play it again sometime... It makes the whole experience way better
