Star Fox Zero |OT| The Fox Awakens

I'd hazard a guess that if they had time for more levels, Falco and Slippy would have their own stages like Peppy did.

Yeah. Slippy probably would have had a
roadmaster
stage and Falco an Arwing stage. I would have liked it if we played as Falco during the Great Fox stage.

Minty cardboard.

I adore the boxart used for the outer shell. The colors are so good.
Kid Icarus Uprising > Sin & Punishment: Star Successor > Star Fox Zero > Panzer Dragoon Zwei > Star Fox 64

Zero is nothing like S&P, and Uprising purely as a shooter isn't better than Star Successor (it's better as an overall game for sure, but as a shooter Star Successor has it beat for sure).

EDIT: Wait, peppy has his own level? So that thing they alluded too in The Battle Begins is actually in the game?

Ughhhh, more digging tonight I go.

Katina isn't even in the game at all, sadly.

The first boss is kind of similar to the Katina mission, I guess.

Doesn't Falco keep calling it a stupid bird or something? I remember thinking it was funny Falco of all characters was insulting something for being a giant bird.
That and at some points
Slippy may start asking Falco to translate whatever the Dodorah is saying, much to his annoyance.

More like Slippy keeps being lowkey racist and implying that Falco can speak to it simply because both of them are birds.

Is there a quick guide to unlocking alternate paths?

I don't want to read a 14 page article trying to hunt each of them down.

Corneria:
When a soldier mentions he is going to the coast transform into the walker and step on a button to open a side path. Once here shoot all of the spiders off of the ally cruiser and you'll be take through a portal. The portal doesn't appear until after you beat Sector Beta.

Sector Alpha:
After you beat the game Pigma will show up in this stage. Lock on to him and you'll be taken to a secret stage.

Aquarosa:
When you beat the stage you have a choice of what stage to go to next. Beat it again and choose the other stage.

Sector Beta:
Beat Wolf before he shoots down Peppy.

Titania:
When you see a huge wall with a gold medal on top of it transform into the gravmaster and fly up there. This will take you into a portal.

Fortuna:
After you beat the game Wolf will show up in this stage. Lock on to him and you'll be taken to a secret stage.

Finished every level last night, and I enjoyed my time with the game and still need to go for all the medals. However, the game feels like an incomplete experience when compared to SF64. This is probably in part to assets being reused too often, making it feel like a really low budget game and there being less on rail sections than I would have liked.

The story being more or less the same as SF64 didn't help either, as I actually cared for 64s more intricately designed story.

I have to say I love the second meteo level. A quick escort mission with an epic boss battle. Only down side is in arcade mode when ya take the lower path, and now stuck there. It's a very fast way to hit the end though.

Arcade is by far my favorite part of the game. I just get a good kick from trying to collect missing medals that way. Gives me a chance to return previous levels to get high scores

Would the fastest path be something like this?

Corneria->Pigma->Meteo->Wolf Kills Peppy->Warp Zone->Peppy Mission->Last two normal missions

That was the one I was thinking of using. You'd basically only need to do 3 full levels, the rest would be cut short to boss fights that aren't that hard.

Andross's
spinning beams while you're flying outside the cylinder
are the worst. Both of the viewpoints you get are completely garbage to properly judge distances of everything.

Anyway, beat it once. The controls still leave something to be desired but it's a pretty fun game. The sense of scale on some of the fights is pretty impressive. Blowing up a section of the Copperhead Missiles on Sector γ and then boosting out from underneath it before the section falls on you is pretty exciting.

Going back and listening to the soundtrack after beating it and it's actually pretty ace, better than Assault relying almost entirely on old songs (which were admittedly really good sounding, but I want something new) and better than Command's boring crap. But there's one serious problem with the music in the game--you can't really ever hear it! The music volume seems to be set really, really low, and the sound effects coming from the game pad are ridiculously loud, which I'd turn down, but I don't really want to turn down the voices too. This game desperately needs some sound options.

Got the medal for the high score on Sector β on my second time through, pretty proud of that. Kinda wanted to play through Titania again but I'm just too good at shooting down Star Wolf now I guess. Would have gotten the high score medal on Zoness my second time through too had I not missed dropping a girder on some robots. Oh well.

is the gamepad required to play? or can i get through with a pro controller?
The gamepad is 100% required.

Regarding Sector Betas complete route
What happens if Peppy has to back out prior to Wolf's appearance? Does he pull a Slippy from Sector X and fly back in just to get shot down immediately?

Also I love how in that mission if you destroy the battleships shield generator and get out in about a second Pepper's just like "Prepare to countdown... Actually forget the countdown, let them have it!"

You don't need any depth perception. Just stay completely parallel.

It's 10x easier than aquarosa.

Yes it's a major problem only without headphone. Because audio mixing is perfectly balanced with headphone(you hear the music really well ).

A friendly reminder that the pilot in co-op can actually shoot things too! However, the pilot only gets weak single laser with no charge. Still, it might help both of you in netting hits.

I've noticed a lot of misinformation around the web so here's a list of everything you need to do to achieve mission accomplished on each stage.

Corneria:
Shoot down one of the segments that have their laser on the top and then fly inside the hole.

Sector Alpha:
Don't let any of the allied cruisers get destroyed.

Area 3:
Beat the level without using the gyrowing.

Zoness:
Don't get spotted by any of the searchlights.

Sector Beta:
Defeat Wolf before he shoots down Peppy.

Titania:
Destroy all of the big enemies (worms, spider things, and alpacas).

Fortuna:
Destroy all of the fly traps.

Fichina:
Destroy all of the big spider things that you saw on Titania.

Sector Omega:
Reach the boss without getting hit.

Corneria 2:
Destroy the gigarilla's chest and palms.

Venom:
When Andross turns around you need to do the same and then shoot him one last time.

Can anyone help me with Zoness mission 2? I can clear it in 3:31:98 and thats with stopping to hack into only the necessary switches from the reactors and the 2nd one during the opening corridor. What am I missing?

Edit
Just did it! 3:14:22!

Feels pretty good that after 10 hours of play there's still new stuff to do in a star fox game and I didn't need to replay the campaign several different times to find it.
That lone wolf fight is super difficult too.
Didn't know that ZL targeting works like Z targeting in Zelda while in the walker. That's pretty cool

It's 3rd person by default, unless you mean 1st then you just press the minus button.
Basically I want to look at the TV and shoot in 3rd person. Is this possible? I'm confused at what can and cannot be done from reviews and Nintendo marketing.

Yeah that's possible. You only need for aiming at things off screen which is something you'll only be doing in boss fights.

PSA: Don't forget that the Walker is good for navigating confined spaces.

It's also great for a quick evasion technique.

Wolf on your tail and you have no energy to somersault? Press A to stop dead in your tracks and fall a bit. Then press A again to end up right behind him.

I can't get over this game. Biggest and best surprise of the year by far.

I went from thinking "I don't know if I'll like the controls and dual screens" before release to playing the game and thinking "This is incredible" within the first hour. I giggled like a child descending into Corneria and shooting down the first wave of drones with pinpoint precision. I stood up when taking down the spider bots at the end of the level. Heck, I think I caught myself verbally replying to Slippy. Amazing.

And then there was pre-release concern about whether there'd be enough content to keep me going. Turns out I'm endlessly entertained replaying my favorite levels (which are pretty much all of them) over and over, and I'm not even shooting for high scores, "Mission Accomplished," or the 70 gold medals. Some of these levels are super-lengthy, too, with numerous ways to approach them.

I also wasn't sure if I'd dig the look and sound of the game, but I'm loving all of that, too. Game just has a great vibe to it. It makes me happy just looking at all of the levels I've unlocked so far in the score list.

This is shaping up to be an all-time favorite. Too bad a large swathe of the Internet (including many who admit they haven't played the game) are doing their best to scare people away from even trying. Ah well.

Game arrived a while ago, got started and reached the credits. I'll say that it's a good time. The controls require some practice at first and then application to the mayhem of fighting (I should mention this is the first time I've played a Star Fox game).

Feels worrying when I destroy massive amounts of enemies and the game slows down. Switching between using the Gamepad view and the main screen view makes things easier to understand when it comes to relativity and aiming. I figure I'll let my brother (who I mainly bought it for) play and we can do co-op sometimes. I'll try Guard later on.

Instead of buying this, perhaps i should finally get around to playing SF643D...

The average level in Zero is like three times longer than SF64 and has like 10x as much stuff going on. Given the scale of many of the levels, I don't particularly mind them revisiting a few areas under different conditions.

Got it from gamefly today.... The system kept saying it was dirty... Tried cleaning the lens... nothing.

All other games are fine

I don't know about that.

SF64 Corneria clocks in at 6:20
SF64 Zoness clocks in at 8:00
SF64 Titania clocks in at 6:30

SF0 Corneria in at 8:00
SF0 Zoness clocks in at 7:00
SF0 Titania clock in at 9:00

Longer? Yes. 3 times longer? Not really. Unless you could the missions that aren't on rails and you can take as long as you want on them.

Pray to Umbasa that this sells well enough so the series continues on this route and gets a sequel on NX.

I don't want to wait 10+ years again. And I wasn't even a huge Star Fox fan to begin with. Zero is that good.

I was including all-range. Regardless, not sure where you got those numbers, but Zero certainly feels longer, probably because you're multitasking more and more stuff is coming at you from more directions.
