Wait, people actually hate 2142? Game was damn good.

At the time the Desert Combat/BF2 purists disliked 2142 for straying from the series trend towards increased realism. It pushed that poor engine to the brink on several fronts, so it was an even buggier experience than 2 was. It also came out a mere year and a half after BF2, and at that time, especially for a PC-only game, it was considered by many to be a cash grab mod moreso than a complete new Battlefield game.

But all those detractors missed out, because 2142, despite its jank, was bloody brilliant.

If it's a smaller dev sure you have a point but Battlefield is well known enough to take place in any setting and still sell extremely well.

Sadly because that's where the market appears to be headed. MOAR scope for customisation! (even tho everyone ends up running the same four guns and sights - the sheep like the illusion of choice). I think it'll take massive over-staturation of future warfare to get a swing back the other way.

That's a really good point now that I think about it settings wise (snow, near future tech, ect..) what were the 2143 easter eggs in last stand?

There were also 2143 Easter eggs in BF3, in the wake island map.

Checked out Verdun because of this thread. That is a very very good game! If you want your Tactical WW1 FPSer then that is it.

I am hoping for WW2 as well. Imagine all the cool obscure weapons and gadgets they're going to dig up to pad out the weapon count. It could be Secret Weapons of WW2 all over again!

The shadows on screen of people is clearly cut and added. Look at the guy standing on the far left's head and bottom right.

It's a shame is fake because i would love that era.

You can love it in a DLC. I would love for them to go nuts with DLC- even with only part of the DLC and not an entire release. But don't stick me with the limitations of WW2 for the next to years. I need my choppers and many other tools not present in that era.

If something didn't work, keep walking further or change direction, but don't go back to the safe zone. The whole point you have a safe zone is because you did something new and had the balls before.

There are many reasons this is fake but the box art is not one of them. It actually says "subject to change" in small print on the boxes.

Cautiously optimistic. I hope its finally the sequel to Battlefield 2142 cause it still remains one of my all-time favourites of the series for how many great new ideas it had.

Though to be honest the Battlefield series have been in a serious downhill slope since Battlefield 3. If any pattern is to be recognized its that the next one is gonna be Modern Warfare, have sloppy netcode that takes 3 years to fix, poor map design with too much focus on "LEVELUTION BRO!!!!!11!!" and less focus on actual good design, map packs which adds constantly new modes but doesn't retroactively try to add them to older levels to make them more relevant, map packs that threaten also to split the community too much and microtransactions, oh god so much microtransaction loot box bullshit. And of course a singleplayer mode that absolutely sucks and should never have been made, but since apparently it turned out to be a myth that if you removed the singleplayer to focus on multiplayer, you would get more content for the other (see Star Wars Battlefront) then it doesn't matter if they have it or not.

Fucking hated the whole "random accessory packs", just give me coins or whatever like the latest Call of Duty's and let me choose what accessories I unlock for my weapons. Keep the RNG loot boxes to cosmetic stuff for people with too much disposable income.

Though this is still EA so I expect nothing to change for the better.

Those are useful to see the graphics, gameplay and general direction of the game. Actually playing them is another matter and I doubt BF5 will be any different in that regard.
