Marathon alpha feedback 16th May (1pm PT // 4pm ET // 9pm UK)

Why does he keep downplaying this by saying that it's only a small subset?

That's not the point you doofus!

Hahaha.

A caller just asked them due to the copying issue, wouldnt it be easier to just hire the person so you can keep the assets.

Green shirt guy said "they'd love to work with Anti Real" (the person who made them) collaborating etc... The answer was open ended. Not a shut down of not working with Anti Real.

Green shirt guy supporting the game's sci art and world building like its home grown from the start, yet it if Anti Real's posts are true, the entire sci vibe was Anti Real's. lol

This is bizzare how no big long time Destiny creators are even watching this. They were like flies on every damn news and literally not a single one of them is watching.
Did they know something or was asked by Bungie to let this slide under the radar ?

edit - I'm an idiot. they are on Destiny channel. maybe two

I might be wrong, but I think the green shirt guy has someone off screen talking to him. He just half way was off screen and looked like he was talking and nodding to someone. Might be wrong though.

(edit. He just did a thumbs up signal aimed at someone off screen)

Dont know how true it is, but someone asked whats the biggest issue gamers had that will be fixed at launch or soon after.

Moustache guy claimed it's survival elements and exiting the map I think. I kind of missed the last part as I was typing.

It's Hermen Hulst telling him he's going to kill his wife and kids if he brings up the plagiarism again.

This game is absolutely fried. Poor feedback from the Alpha, cold reception to the reveal, now(apparently) validated claims they stole art?

Cooked.

Hope they are developing Destiny 3 or a new IP because they are cooked now....

specially after the good impresions for Arc Raiders.

This was a total disaster.

I don't know if Bungie was being blissfully naive or if they just don't care, but the stakes are way, WAY too high for such an amateurish livestream. How did this happen? Livestreaming is not some novel thing, every idiot can do it and there are a million websites and videos on how to set up you audio system.

Marathon is standing with one foot in the grave already after that dreadful alpha so they need to bring their A game to convince people that this game is worth forking over 40 bucks of their hard earned money and all we got was a couple of dudes mumbling about how they're working on some cool stuff and might fix some stuff and will add some cool visuals at some point probably and thinking about customization but not sure on how.

This game is supposed to release in 4 months, what the fuck do you mean you're still figuring out ways players can communicate? And how they talked about the blatant, overwhelming plagiarism was just absurd.

Extremely bad look for Marathon, Bungie and Playstation.

Every day it passes is a day Sony is spending more money, I dunno man. Is an open alpha/beta really necessary to know this game is DOA?¡?¡. Is Hermen this retarded¡?

IMO there is nothing they could have done to convince people different after the Alpha. There's way to much negativity surrounding this game. They were going to catch hate no matter what.

The only hope they have is the open beta and hope that the masses enjoy it. If not they're DOA.

Bungie is fucked. Welcome to the Blizzard, EA, BioWare, Ubisoft heap fellas.

I have 0 confidence in this game anymore and last year I was so excited.

They don't care- clearly, so why should I?

Did they announce an open beta or a delay? Sounds like a giant waste of everyone's time for putting this on today

They don't transmit any confidence in the product. :messenger_neutral:

Unless a miracle happens, heads gonna roll. Can't say i feel sorry for them because i don't care about GaaS games.

The unfortunate part is that they never did, I feel. It's why even people that went to the event weren't blown away by what they saw and played. It's just a really unfortunate situation. But it sounds like the product that currently exists lacks confidence and passion. So, it's a game that looks "different" visually, but everything else feels like a been there done that it seems. Which sounds really bad for a well known AAA studio.

Their 'answers' remind me of bureaucratic yapping. They seem passionless, give off a vibe that they can't really do much to turn things around and probably realize there's a decent chance the game will flop.

This guy is going through a personal hell. We're watching someone withering away in realtime, lmao

Those eyebags look HEAVY.

He's probably thinking about all the shit that's gone on behind the scenes over the last few years that led to this point in time.

Would love to be a fly on the wall in their offices, must be panic central.

Next time maybe don't take an existing IP to do this shit with (when the original marterial had nothing to do with this), and maybe next time don't try and throw hero shooter bullshit in to an extraction shooter.

The whole point of an extraction shooter is the personal journey you carve out as a player through playing the game. Playing as one of a handful of pre-defined characters in this type of game makes no fucking sense.

Maybe they should have stayed out of matters regarding the last of us Factions instead of feeling threatened and getting them to cancel it instead.

Funniest thing about all this drama is that they could have just used the art design from the previous Marathon titles but nah, lets steal from some dude's portfolio instead and make something that barely resembles the original games.

They deserve to be called Concord 2.

I don't understand what goes through these people's heads.

Do they not realise that the audience for these kinds of games are predominantly males ~30+ years of age, and all the most recent successful GAAS games that have actually sold are, grounded, gritty, brutal and dark (Helldivers 2, Hunt showdown and Tarkov as examples).

Even if you look at the upcoming arc raiders, which by all accounts looks like it's going to be a success, it's much more grounded in it's approach to all of this.

Do they never stop and think who are we making this for, who the fuck wants to look at this and play it?

Nevermind the fact that they are actually asking people to pay for it. In case they forgot, fortnite is free, so chasing that audience with your shitty colour palatte does nothing to attract them because they won't want to pay for it.

This is why I have no sympathy for them or the idiots at Sony who have let all of this develop and fester. It's like they learnt nothing from what happened with Concord, and on the flip side they've learnt nothing from the success that Arrowhead have had with Helldivers 2.

TLOU factions had a far better chance of succeeding than this ever did. Making stuff like Socom, Warhawk, killzone multiplayer, resistance multiplayer etc would have had a far better chance of success than this, and some of them would have been ripe for being made in to an extraction shooter (TLOU in particular). But this is what chasing trends instead of playing to your own strengths gets you.

Their inability to invest at all in their legacy IP is one of the all time headscratchers.

Honestly I think they don't. And I'd bet money that there's still good talented fellas at Bungie but nobody asked them either.

They probably came up with this shit at a meeting full of suits with charts about market trends and all that crap with 0 knowledge of what gamers actually want.

Couldn't agree more. Sony has tons of fans and many of them still remember those franchises. Hell I never played Socom and I know about it because of people here on GAF still mentioning it here and there many years after the last game released.

So instead of pleasing those fans... did they decide to please Marathon fans? Nah fuck them as well, lets slap the brand on a extraction shooter that plays nothing like the original games.

This is what irks me the most. I'm a fan of the original so when they initially announced a new "marathon" game I was initially excited until they then said it was going to be an extraction shooter.

But even still, I was willing to give them a chance provided they stayed true to the source material and attempted to do something interesting with it. But no, what do we get, some generic looking souless mashup of the hero shooter and extraction shooter genres. There is nothing interesting or unique about any of this, and to make matters worse everyone looks bored playing it.

This is what marathon looked like:

How do you go from that to whatever the hell this is?

Part of me thinks they see those legacy ips as to masculine. It sounds dumb but internally I think some people don't see them (SOCOM, Killzone, Warhawk) as fitting the culture of the place.
All of their efforts have this 'modern' bend to it. Hoping to bring in a new audience.
I think enough loss and pressure might change things.
Sony Japan needs to go scorched earth.

Yep, this stuff needs to and deserves to fail. If they thought Concord was just a one off, they need to get the message loud and clear.
