What progression are you looking for? There will be competitive play sometime after launch that will allow you to progress in ranks.

It means he needs the COD treadmill. Otherwise all these matches have no purpose.

I like that I don't have to unlock shit. Going after some sweet cosmetics is more interesting.

However - the core game modes of king of the hill and follow the cart around are not the most fun of modes - kinda boring. It makes the game overly simplistic and limited. I mean, is there going to be capture the flag style mode variants?

Also the map design and art design of the maps are also mediocre - with nothing standing out about any of them. I hate the art direction of the maps - very very bland.

I think capture the flag would be really weird in this game. But yeah I believe modes will be added. I'm not a big fan of koth either but I like payload/push the cart.

As far as the maps...yeah I don't see that at all man. Art direction is wonderful, each map is very distinct in design and aesthetic from each other and easy to learn.

That would help, but I like to have something to aim for.

I enjoyed looking through all the cosmetic items available for all the heroes, but I like to earn that alongside aiming for a main goal.

I dunno, the game is fun to play, but I have a hard time playing when I question myself thinking "What's the point?" It's fun, but I do like to have like an arbitrary goal of level 50 or something like that. And you get something that affects gameplay when you level up, instead of cosmetics.

This is everything wrong with most shooters today. If it's not for you it's not for you, but there's 0 chance of that happening.

There will be ranked competitive later on, but that's it. Understandable if it's not your thing.

Personally, this was actually the biggest draw of the game for me. I'm dead tired of all the loadout, upgrade, weapon unlock bullshit in every online game. Playing this and Rocket League recently reminded me how too many multiplayer games overdo it with the breadcrumb rewards and forced pseudo complexity.

Overwatch just feels like a breath of fresh air, but it's not unfamiliar. It's been really great seeing FPS's essentially return to a much more streamlined, simpler form, rather than go further down the path of treadmill unlock grinding 'content'. If the game is good then people will keep playing.

I hope one of the new classes that is eventually added works similar to spy in TF2. Maybe a class that resets ultimate charges and easily takes out buildings. Not sure, I really like playing spy in TF2 though.

If they do they're going to have to be very careful about it. It's quite easy to fuck a class like that up and create another noob-slayer (see: phantom from dirty bomb)

I don't need the screen blowing up in my face as I level up every 10 minutes and get access to brand new guns after every match.

But you know, a new ability or something here and there would help a lot. I have a hard time getting excited over something I just look at.

I agree. If you care about unlocking stuff, maybe you'll enjoy Battleborn more.

Yeah, spy in Overwatch wouldn't work as is, but I think if changes were made it could feel similar enough.

There are levels and XP though. You can make getting to level 50 a goal. It's just the unlocks that come with leveling up are cosmetic instead of some item or ability that affects gameplay. I guess if you don't like that, that's your prerogative. The cosmetics are pretty cool though, as you said.

Also, since when did you need something other than having fun to play a game? Maybe I'm just old, but back in my day, playing games for fun was the whole point. We didn't have all these carrot-on-a-stick grindfests to keep us interested.

Man I think this shit is fine as it, just a fun diversion.
My entire raid group played the beta yesterday instead of taking the XIV raid we usually schedule. We've been feeling super burned out, bitching at eachother as we progress. We play this together and suddenly we're all having a ball. It's amazing in a full group just coordinating, you get so much more out of it.

I stopped playing with them for a bit since we're 8 and not 6 and I had a markedly worse time trying to coordinate an attack. Like you need people who know what the fuck to do. Like playing this with friends is way, way too much fun.

Also I feel like I have a decent handle on Reinhart. His tackle is amazing at stopping ults dead in their place. Bastion turrents get rekt by the tackle, the shield is fun as shit. Just wish he had more than the poop single ranged skill and I don't think his ult affects people flying or even jumping.

I managed to snag a code from one of my buddies. Are people just generally bad at the game at the lower levels? I feel like I'm stomping people into the ground in this game; I probably get around 40 eliminations every single game that I play a tank or offensive character. I'm a seasoned TF2 and Unreal Tournament vet, but I feel like I really shouldn't be doing this well. My first 2 or so hours with the game and pretty much nobody could touch me. Is that just because I might be getting matched up with people who have no shooter experience?

I'm not sure who to focus on learning. I tried D.Va and was aces with her. Did ok with Mercy. Not sure what to try next.

Learn Widowmaker. I personally think her sniper is very overpowered because characters generally move slow in this game and are easy to get headshots on.

I think that experience matters more than you think, especially TF2 experience. IMO anyone that has significant time in TF2 has a huge advantage at the start.

I felt like even though I had 0 map knowledge, that the map design was very familiar and made a lot of sense allowing for my improvisational side to stand out. I also took the time to use every character in the practice range and get a feel for their abilities. So I guess maybe I wasn't giving myself enough credit!

Very, very fun game though. As if it were a TF2 with more characters and less emphasis on aim skill. I'll most likely pick this up when it comes out!

I redeemed by PS4 Beta Code but I'm not seeing the Overwatch download anywhere, can anyone give me a clue where to look/go?

Music Player or something like that in your library, should have the OW logo.
I think if you preordered after a certain day you may have to wait till the 5th
Having a code means being able to play in the early access, the open beta is open to everyone.

Played about an hour and a half earlier and had really a good time. Tried a little bit of most the characters but Tracer seems the most fun for me so far. Definitely want to try the others a bit more though.

Game looks really nice too. Got it fully maxed out on Epic and it runs flawlessly.

Think it's going to be a day one for me.

Tracer definitely getting the most play from me, she's great.

This is why I've found FPS to be shit over the last decade or so.

This game gets it right.

I am playing devils advocate here but what makes gamers embrace this game and its few modes but shun Battlefront?

I have this same questions about myself btw.

Battlefront's skill ceiling is an inch off the ground.

That and it's $60 for half the content, $60 for the other half.

Battlefront actually had less stuff. It has launched with less maps and most of them don't even work for every mode. You also have to buy the rest of the game.

12 maps is pretty solid at launch for a 40 dollar game, mixed with the 21 heroes gives a good variety.

Battlefront technically has 12 maps, but only 4 environment so it doesn't feel like much variety. Also, Overwatch DLC maps and characters will be free, instead of a season pass.

(Also also, Overwatch is simply a much better designed game than Battlefront)

For me, it's the playstyle of certain classes that keep me interested. The same reason I continue to go back to TF2 even though I have played it since launch and have thousands of hours played. I already know I could rotate Junkrat, Hanzo, and Torbjorn for a very long time, and never get bored.

great answers and makes perfect sense to me!

thanks everyone!

Thanks yeah, for some reason it's under the name "Music Player".....weird lol

Fuckin hell this is probably the best beta I've ever played. I didn't realize all of the characters and maps were going to be unlocked. Are they saving anything for the retail release? Seems like everything is all unlocked in the beta

Gotta love it when you heal 40% of the damage and don't receive a single MVP vote

Battlefront got a lot of shit because it had less content and features than Battlefront 2 - a ten year-old game that had a lot of fans. So folks felt EA/DICE ruined one of their favorite franchises by watering it down to it's bare essentials (like removing classes and space battles entirely) and charging $60 for it. Add on top of that the fact that Battlefront's gameplay wasn't all that varied. As many reviews said - after a few hours of play you'd pretty much seen everything the game has to offer.

Overwatch is similar to TF2 in that there's a truckload of variety to the gameplay, thanks to the large number of characters and their individual abilities. With MP-only games, variety is the key to success, and that doesn't necessarily have to mean the number of maps or gameplay modes. It doesn't matter how great your game feels, if folks get bored or feel like there's nothing new to discover, they'll move on. The same thing happened to Titanfall, despite the gameplay being stellar.

Rainbow Six: Siege is a good example of how a MP-focused game can maintain a solid player-base post-launch thanks to how much variety the base gameplay allows for.

Holy shit. I just finished a game with heal 50% of damage taken and no deaths. Needless to say we steamrolled the other team and I actually got MVP! God I love Lucio.

If you want to play supports or tanks in this game, you got to get over the play of the game and mvp stuff real quick. You're always going to lose those to some reaper who jumped into a few enemies and pressed his ult button once while doing fuck all the rest of the game.

Done that with Reinhart and took like 2 with me
