Naughty Dog is going downhill...

What's going on at Naughty Dog, gaf????™

I will weigh towards sites that have been around for a long time, because that's how gamers see the scores anyway. If some random site or YouTube channel give UC4 a 8, people will live with it, but if GS or IGN give it a 8, people will go crazy.

That's definitely one way you can think of it. Though I think the same problem can be solved by having a higher standard, and making sure the site isn't bunk.

It's not like you can measure one site's opinion as being better than anothers, because one person's opinion can't really be better than anothers.

People put too much stock into IGN and GT, when there are plenty of other sites, large and small that do the same work just as good if not better. And some sites are worse, but if you average the opinions equally the chance of an outlier or a bunk opinion from any site, much less a large site like GT, will effect the average.

This sracastic joke created In gaf just for the lulzs will be ported to otehr sites and will be very badly interpreted later and will come back to gaf again just like the E3 2014 vs PSX 2014 comparison created here adn then used to downplay the game everywhere even in some random facebook groups.

For some weird reason I havent played that game yet, I should do it this week while I wait for U4.

Was not a fan of the story of TR2013 if that is anything similar to RoTR

I thought RoTTR's story was better than TR2013's but it was still mostly forgettable.

Just read eurogamer's review and I'm glad to hear that Drake's relation with Elena is the standout aspect of the story.
All this talk about the ending making it impossible for Drake to return seems to imply that he dies, even if that's not what happens reviewers can fuck off with comments about the ending.

ND's track record is insane.

However, I wish they would do a new IP. I'd be so sad if we passed onto the next generation without them doing a single new IP.

They did one three years ago, but they take time. I mean damn if it took them 3 years to get out a game that was on its fourth entry in a franchise then when do you think TLoU 2 will come out, let alone a new IP? I mean I guess they have their grounds or and engine now laid out but still, AAA game development is longer than ever now.

I do agree with you though -- I want a new IP before this gen ends but I'm not sure how likely that'll be unless they split into two teams which is unfavourable.

Bloodborne take a bow. Your 92 is now outmatched by Uncharted's 94 metacritic as the highest scoring game of this generation.

Would it really make sense for their review score to increase?

If the point of an 'in progress' score is to assess multiplayer in a retail environment, isn't the best case scenario just meeting their expectations? That 8.8 represents the game as played under absolute ideal conditions. How does it have anywhere to go but down?

not being able to fully test MP is far from an "ideal condition"

It will not be long before the Merlinin Kazani score is featured in the TV ads.

Back to ignoring everything until Tuesday.

60 reviews, still 94, the more reviews it get the better it can survive the IGN final score and EDGE's review without losing a point.

I see this 94 as symbolic more than anything, since no game passed the 93 score.

She reviewed Rise of the Tomb Raider and was pretty high on the story which, quite frankly, I thought was terrible.

As far as adventure-blockbuster game stories go, I thought RoTR was about on par with the Uncharted series. Maybe an inch below.

I also don't think the stories/writing in these games are particularly grand, so that's where I'm placing my bar. They're all well paced and have fun leads, but the actual narrative is only serviceable. They bring the player from huge moment to moment, and not much more.

Speaking of not adding anything...you've been sticking around this whole time to...? Definitely not to discuss the reviews. Sounds more like you're just trying to stir up conflict. Whether you like it or not, you're on an enthusiast forum, so there are people who are very passionate about what you consider nothing serious. Why don't you just live with it and let people get excited and passionate and do what they do?

I've been talking about the game, made a throwaway joke comment that got a lot of y'all angry, and started responding to you. Didn't know that was suddenly not allowed.

I'm an "enthusiast" as well, there's a fine line between that and taking shit way too seriously.

Could IGN's 8.8 drop it to 93 again?

Yeah it likely will due to how they weigh reviews. A few big publications left though, so it could stay 94.

No it won't... It MIGHT get play between some console war fanboyz but 99% of people will know the intention. Relax.

Games cost more money, take more time, and are moving away from single player experiences. A game like Uncharted 4 doesn't exactly happen but a few times every decade. What I think is most indicative of the changing of times is how reviewers have become larger celebrities than the games they seek to critique.

In saying that- anything higher than a 90 is like a 10 for me. The review process, amount of outlets, cynicism, and barrier to break to achieve a higher than 90 on metacritic is stupidly broken. It's almost like inflation, a 80 today is like a 95 a decade ago.

With this, I believe Naughty Dog has the highest average rating across their entire portfolio of games, compared to any other developer. Their overall average is 88. Were it not for Jak X: Combat Racing (76), it would have been above 90. Basically, these guys are insanely consistent.

I still can't believe that they were people who took that joke seriously.

Not at all. But thanks for not really adding anything, it's what this thread needed.

Heh, didn't find any meltdowns to mock and be condescending about so you're trying to instigate some drama on your own?

Some man just want to see the world burn...

Savage Starlight would be a cool take by ND.

I really wished it would be a 95 meta, so I could see TLOU fans and UC4 fans fighting forever to see which one is better.

Not to say it cant be better because of 1 point. But the symbolic effect is important.

Why is Golden Abyss on their profile? And I think it's counting DLC, including MP DLC to the average, lol...

I know not many people have played it yet, but does anyone know if I go into this game cold, having not played an Uncharted game before, I'll be missing out on anything?

He's always respected the franchise but has admitted, he's never been its biggest fan, one reason being the ludo narrative dissonance at Drake not being affected by his mass murdering -- he mentions it in his review and has said it before. There are other reasons of course.

Not that he's wrong or shouldn't be entitled to his opinion, 8.5 is great but that criticism is just one I have never been able to understand.

Yup! Game characters must have a conscience to ya know!

Is a score from IGN more impactful then a score from a random site on Metacritic. Or does every score count the same?
