Zelda for Wii U reveal @ Nintendo Treehouse: Live by Reggie, June 14 6PMCEST

Thought that was the general consensus after last E3 and the clip that was shown at the Game Awards that year. They were using all the right buzz words and the world certainly looked like it had the Elder Scroll scope.

What I think people should possibly be annoyed by is that we're likely going to see that the Wii U version is done or so close to done they could release it this Fall. That it's being held back to give the NX version the push and spotlight.

However I'm not convinced the NX version will look significantly better mainly because of the art style and direction they're using. Even looking rough in the footage they did show at the Game Awards it looked pretty and graphics are the last thing Nintendo typically works on with a game. I think the WiI U version will look beautiful. Not beautiful for a Wii U game or anything like that. Just beautiful. Full stop. I'm thinking NX might look very similar visually but might have better draw distance, frame rate (60 instead of 30FPS), etc. Things like that. Partly also because it wasn't designed as a NX game. The Wii version of Twilight Princess was only marginally improved over the GameCube version. The big difference was the Wii mote controls.

Edit:

I'm really hoping they release one of the demos so everyone at home can play it. They have done this before. Either make it playable for a few days or weeks on the eShop and have it auto delete or just let people keep the demo so they play it over and over again to build up their excitement for the full thing.

TP Wii was only marginally improved because the Wii was a... Gamecube in disguise. I don't think that's the case here.

Also - the port brings a lot of questions about the NX controller. My super wild guess? All the UI goes in menu, but you can replicate the full experience by using the new NX handheld as a controller :D

Looks like he was wrong.

Star Fox Zero is definitely able to compare to Skyward Sword in terms of control scheme controversial-ness

Yeah they're right. It's the first Zelda gave I've truly hated. What a piece of shit that was.

Dunno, it ended up being my second favorite 3D Zelda right under MM. Loved Skyward Sword. The controls worked for me, the story had more weight than your typical Zelda game, the Characters had personality and meaningful interactions, and the weapons gained actually had use than just one dungeon or 2 dungeons.

It's the same song and dance every console zelda game. They always claim each instalment will be better and more innovative than the last. The games have all been good, but I find most of them equal in terms of my enjoyment. I really want them to change it up the formula a lot more with this one. Hopefully this is actually the one to do so

Yeah having seen the promises behind Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword (despite the fact that I enjoyed both of those games, SS especially), I'm not exactly going to be holding my breath for actual surprises. lol

Said civilization (The Shiekah) still exists in some of the games, they are just nearly extinct. Impa from OoT and Impaz from TP are part of the same race. It would be interesting to finally get a game that gives them a large focus but after SS I've given up hope on that.

Were the Shiekah the ancient civilization that had all the robots and stuff? As far as I know, the only thing they did was guard the Royal family (and Hylia back in the day). There's no indication that they were an advanced ancient civilization, just a clan of red eyed Hylians with shadow magic.

Skyward Sword was a great game with best Zelda to date
A great game, I'll agree with. I loved the music, the story, the cinematics, the motion-controlled gameplay, the dungeon design, the boss fights, the epic ending, the ties to the entire Zelda series. But as a *Zelda* game, I found it horrible. I mean, where was the Zelda-style exploration? The overworld (the clouds) had hardly anything in it, and only three actual levels, that the player returned to time and time again.

Nintendo tried to make Skyward Sword different, and in that they succeeded too well.

Only hints so far in the new symbol released today, the book Link is carrying in Zelda U, and the symbol of the Time Stones in Skyward Sword.

I really hope it ain't just Zelda and we atleast get some new, short game announcements from Nintendo this E3.

Or just new trailers for whatever. Or maybe new VC releases.

Just something else

I want to see because my hype is still high, at the same time I don't want to see because I would like to have no spoiler of this "bew" version of Zelda U. If they delayed it so much probably they changed the formula for real, I really hope they did a good job, pls don't waste this Zelda, I love the art style. :(

Anyway... Hype! Even if this is the only Nintendo game at the E3...

Its alright

And orcarina zeld turns into a ninja
Ww zelda turns into a sick pirate and subsequently a ghost with a stand
And tp zelda is almost a kingdom hearts character and does drive by's

She is by no means the best and all the zeldas that immediately proceed her are several times cooler in various ways.

Nope. She is the best!

I dunno if this indicates a prequel to Skyward Sword guys.

Skyward Sword's THING was being an origin story, with all the adam and eve shenaningans at the end.

Doing another prequel would make SS story moot, and they already said this game was viculated with Twilight Princess.

I know something similar happened with Minish Cap, with the hat story supposedly being an origin, but come on, that was Minish Cap, Nintendo probably didnt give much of a fuck about it if they really wanted to create their own big origin story, instead of what Capcom did in a portable game.

Watch Zelda U be the origin story of Link's tunic.

To me the symbol looks a bit like the lens of truth from OoT...

Maybe some sort of dual environment thing?

It's the symbol of the Sheikah clan. The Items of Truth are creations of theirs.

It's weird, I'm sad about this news because it means it will be a shitty e3 showcase from Nintendo... But at the same time I will finally get to see SOMETHING about this game that I've been waiting for.

Nintendo is gonna Nintendo I guess.

Pretty much how I feel.

Bring it on though!

I love Zelda and this one seems gorgeous. In any other normal circumstance (even a "nintendo nornal..") I would be HYPED as hell.
Instead, it is incredible how they were even able to suck out any interest I have even in seeing Zelda.
for the context, in general (no games at E3, no more Wii U games, no NX, no 3DS game...nothing for MONTHS) and also in specific for Zelda (can't be that interested in a game announced in 2014, promised for 2015, delayed to 2016, delayed to a generic 2017, probably not even able to be ready at launch for march '17...

Only way I could see it being a "prequel" is if it's supposed to be a reboot/re-alignment of the entire series. Like what if it's just called Legend of Zelda and begins some coherent story this time?

I like how Nintendo is under the assumption that ALL Nintendo fans LOVE Zelda so even though this is all they are bringing, everyone will be happy. I haven't played through any of the 3D Zelda games. I did beat A Link Between Two Worlds, and the original on NES, but those 2D Zeldas are quite different from the 3D games. My favorite franchises are Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Kirby and those franchises aren't getting any sort of attention at E3 and I'm supposed to Understand

Poor Nintendo. Still don't listen to their fans..and only do what thet want. They think that every Nintendo fan likes Zelda. I personally don't give a shit about Nintendo but when Sony or Microsoft where focusing only on one. All the hell would break loose.

Which incarnation of the character is your favorite? I do agree that she was very strong in Skyward Sword.

If we're talking about the character, then I won't disagree. But if we're talking about the franchise, SS was most definitely not the best IMHO.

They're about to unveil an entire new console that will be out in roughly 10 months and they're under no obligation to do the E3 thing. It isn't a fuck you fans thing, it's just a position they're in. I imagine further E3's will be better.

Yup, skyward sword's reveal showed wayyy to much for my liking.

They're going to have a trailer and a day's worth of demo and footage. My guess is we'll get Intro + overworld exploration + first dungeon (or an 'easier' version of it) + boss fight (the latter 3 being demo choices). Puzzle solutions, item reveals, and an entire boss fight all revealed - not really what I want to see. I play zelda to figure out puzzle solutions, boss fights, and to guess what item i'm going to get based on perceived puzzle solutions. Always exciting to have the whole dungeon 'click' once you get the item, something that will be spoiled the more items I know about.
Really? Why SS showed too much at its reveal?
I just remember a basic trailer and demo

That would be the only way to disappoint me even more now.

They are stupid, but not THAT stupid.

Right...?
Justexpect the basic premise and show of the overworld, first dungeon and new item, Zelda stories are mostly very simple
They would focus on that closer to release

"And that's all the time we have for Zelda U! Coming up, Zelda U! And stay tune because after that, we're gonna have a brand new demo for ZELDA U that you are not gonna wanna miss! Only here, at Treehouse Live!"

Sounds like Cartoon Network doing mini marathons of TTG all day.

IIRC the original NES Zelda story prototypes had some sci-fi overtones with the Triforce supposedly being a futuristic electonic device of some sort with circuitry etc. It would be great to see that happen.

Please don't bring Scifi into Zelda.

That is the absolute last thing I want to see happen.
