Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

Guys, we don't need to bring more ammunition. If it's not form GAF and won't ADD to the discussion, maybe it's best to not post.

Ah, I'm not looking to add ammunition. I'm just fascinated by these meltdowns that happen when any major game gets a score below 9.

As someone I follow on Twitter said, 7 used to be a great score.

I've actually barely followed this game. I just know my girlfriend desperately wants to play it after she played the last two, so I'm going in mostly fresh save for the reveal, first gameplay footage, and that Laura Bailey controversy. Refreshing to go in as blank as I am, same thing happened with Last of Us.

I'm really not an Uncharted fan, but maybe the lack of buildup for me might make this one click. My fascination moreso stems from hearing ND programmers talk about how they solved certain set-piece problems.

I think me and Jim Sterling had a really different understanding of the story in UC4. I can't even recall many shock moments in the story.

One of the best parts of the story was how it wasn't trying to be shocking or hammer you down with twists. It felt really personal in that sense. There was maybe one twist at most that throws a curve at the player and even that one is done more to highlight the characters.

I really can't agree with his assessment of the story.

where? I did a search and that phrase returned no results

He used attention seeker, but we can agree that the intention was the same.

I know, it's just that things brought from twitter already shitted the thread once today. And "gamers" displaying their blatant fanboysm is nothing new when we talk about platform exclusive games.

It's nice seeing some of the comments about people not wanting another one. Not for the reason of not wanting to play more uncharted, just that it feels complete. Good Job ND. You guys deserve all the praise you get.

I haven't read any of the reviews, but that's good to hear also.

I like when a series feels complete. Personally, I thought Metal Gear Solid 4 was a perfect send off for the series, then MGSV happened. To be fair, MGSV had absolutely wonderful gameplay and game design, but the narrative of Big Boss and the Clones just didn't seem to need more layers after MGS4.

God of War 3 felt like a satisfying conclusion to Kratos' story, and I'd be bummed if Kratos returns in a new God of War game. I love that character, but his story felt complete.

If Uncharted 4 is Nathan Drake's final adventure, and it feels complete, then that's awesome. I certainly wouldn't be against more Uncharted games, with new characters, and possibly even set in a different time period. I would not be adverse to an Uncharted game starring Victor Sullivan and Katherine Marlowe, that takes place in the 1960's. That could be a lot of frigging fun. But then again, I'd love to see Naughty Dog work on a new IP. I'd kill for a film noir, 1950's style detective story done by them, or even a cyberpunk future, Blade Runner style action/adventure game from them. They have excellent story tellers, artists, and programmers, so whatever they create is going to be high quality, I'm sure.

Wow, the PlayStation Universe review is amazing! It conveys how incredible this game really is without spoiling anything and on top of that, the way the reviewer describes everything; how he felt and our own emotional ties towards these characters - it made me even more hyped than ever for this game!!

By the way, my GameStop is doing an 11 p.m. release - I was told that this is nationwide, so that means we'll get it an hour sooner than expected!

Don't worry. ND did a fantastic job for the final game. It feels complete.

You make it sound as if this is a rampant problem in this thread in which it really isn't... Sure, there are such shitposts, but as Jigorath said, this thread is nowhere near as bad as Star Fox Zero or Quantum Break's review threads.
Never said it was like those threads either. I called out the posts that were shitty though, and some people now seem to think that those cases to exist because someone decided to quote all my posts. People are literally pilling up on me because I was referring to specific shitposts that exist and that I was talking about. People sure are trying hard to make it seem like the initial shitposts about reviewers didnt exist... I wonder why...
he quoted "attention whores that want to stand out" which implies that is literally what someone wrote. which is not true at all.

he's paraphrasing to make those posts sound worse than they are
They might as well have, because the tone of such posts is exactly like that.

Yeah, I've pretty much tried avoiding everything since I saw the Jeep chase footage which was probably, what, E3 last year? I don't want any of the set pieces or character moments spoiled so I've just watched and read nothing.

I think calling people junior was uncalled for. This thread from my reading actually has remained pretty calm. I'm not sure what the hurrah and clammering about shitposts are about.

Damn...Gamestop has been doing 9:00pm releases for awhile now. It would suck if they moved it back to 11:00

Going to start by giving thanks to Amy Hennig. For laying the groundwork and giving us three great games.

I remember when Druckmann and Straley took over there was a lot of worry about the quality of the game and how it would turn out with the shift in development. There should have never been a worry. After TLOU they've proven what they can do.

Not only that but ND just oozes quality. It's in their DNA. Glad this game is scoring well but either way I was hyped for it day one. I await ANYTHING this studio puts out.

How can anyone judge these review scores without having played the game?

This might be another Fallout 4 / MGSV where a large portion of the players ended up thinking that the high scores were actually too flattering.

Who knows, someone criticising Sterling right now might actually come to agree with him.

How can you get such assumptions and conclusions from just comparing two pics which are in different conditions: different angle, lighting , zoom level? The first scene is a little darker that is why you have you have more indirect bounced lights while in the second pic Nathan is exposed to more direct light. I don't know how did you conclude that it doesn't use Kajiya-Kay model for hair shading. Because the hair is brighter in the second scene due to more direct exposure to light? Well Using Kajiya-Kay is not a luxury anymore. It has been used in many games and engines including The Order and Uncharted 4 is using it too: http://n4g.com/news/1640666/unchart...s-were-made-shows-direct-feed-wip-screenshots

Please check carefully before jumping into such conclusions.

I see what you are saying, but the E3 2014 trailer looks better for whatever reason. The hair looks better for whatever reason. There is very little bounce lighting for whatever reason. The gouges look more realistic for whatever reason. For whatever reason we will never be able to see the E3 2014 "realtime" 60FPS trailer running on our Playstation 4. It doesn't really matter at this point if the original trailer was running on multiple PS4s duct taped together, the game still looks stunning.

I think you're misinterpreting tone because you're thirsty for meltdowns

When UC2 released, it was at least as mindblowing as UC4 today. UC4 is still the better game in almost every aspect.

I made the mistake of keeping as close an eye on Uncharted 2 as possible prior to release (screenshots, trailers and previews), so by the time I actually played the game, there were very few surprises left, which was exceedingly disappointing as I went into the original game more or less blind and had a blast. I've endeavoured to keep my exposure to Unch4rted to a minimum in hope of recapturing what made Drake's Fortune so memorable, but, admittedly, have faltered a wee bit (the teaser and PSX gameplay demo were nothing, really, but I do regret watching the E3 gameplay demo).

I don't know... reading your comments, you seemed to be more focused on badgering other people than calling out shitposts. You also appear to automatically label people's criticisms of certain reviews as salty. Sure, some people were salty, but there were plenty of others who provided their inputs in a civil manner.

I've seen them, and I called them out as such. Apparently though some people here didn't actually read those somehow. There has been countless people here attacking reviewers for not giving it a 9/10, and for having issues with the game you don't agree with it.

This is somehow invalidated because a guy went out making a wall quote of my posts, and now people joined in on the bandwagon of a "wall of shame" literally having no arguments of their own whatsoever, and continously not being able to disprove what the people I was talking about were doing

But sure, those people now dont exist, magically. I love how quickly people went to pile up after that "wall of shame" post. Really shows they have no worthy rebuttal of their own at all.

There were some posts sure, but you just made it a lot worse. You really need to stop now.

agreed. Jim himself has probably been more inflammatory than any of the posts here complaining about his review

But that's part of Jim's character. He's know for being acid and kinda scumbag sometimes (even he admits that he was a shithead in the past).

People that don't know him (and hardcore fanboys) get mad at his tweets/opinions and give him more spotlight time in the process.

For sure. This was Amy's baby and she should be commended.

Neil and Bruce were both involved in Uncharted 2 so it shouldn't be a surprise that they knocked it out of the park.

that's fine, I've got no issue with it, just trying to illustrate that the supposed "shitposts" that a certain poster has been calling out aren't actually that shitty

Just my .02 cents.

Personally, I think the whole Nathan Drake being a "serial killer " arguement is COMPLETE nit-picking.

I truly hope no one brought down their scores for that specific reason.

I really am not bothered by knowing story stuff. Story in the Uncharted games never works for me. It's always come off as toothless and redundant... Maybe this one will change that though, I dunno.

Hmm, reviews are all over the place, might just skip this one for now.

I will admit I expected some "attention whoring" 6 or 7 to crop up. Game is HUGE profile release of a series some seemed tired of or were never really into, so it seemed ripe for a couple/few reviews going that way. No way would I consider 8-9 reviews attention whoring though.

While I get that it's a frustrating criticism to read, it should also be understood that a game which makes you do things you don't want to do can also be frustrating.

That said I feel like the theme of Uncharted is well enough established for players to know what they are getting into.
