Zelda for Wii U reveal @ Nintendo Treehouse: Live by Reggie, June 14 6PMCEST

The game was announced in January 2013, on the 23rd during a Nintendo Direct.

It will release (at the very earliest) March 2017.

Pardon me, I used the term "delay" incorrectly, but four years since since its announcement it will release.

Jesus Christ Aonuma, Jesus Christ.

Well, yeah, that's the whole idea of this trope. Fantasy setting where misunderstood technology is considered magic. If they went full sci-fi it wouldn't be that anymore.

Clearly they're not going that way. I mean people think this is some big change, but nothing we've seen so far is more technological than Wind Waker and Skyward Sword. Link is clearly salvaging the technology to use.

DwYFzg2.jpg

His arrows are pieces of technology tied to a stick with rope. The robot gohma is covered in grass, making it look more ancient than Wind Waker's and Skyward Sword's robots.

I mean, there definitely IS magic in Zelda. Or, at least, what can be considered magic. Zelda has powers that she inherits through her bloodline and such. But even then, I mean, superheroes have powers and they aren't considered magic if their power has an explanation. Marvel even explained the Norse gods as being aliens with advanced technology and their powers come from that and their alien physiology. So even the magic and Zelda could just be something explainable. They'll never do that, though, and shouldn't.

More and more it seems like the goddesses were just technologically advanced people, like Chrono Trigger or Xenogears.

Yeah, that's the one thing I don't want :/ I want the goddesses to be just that - goddesses. Not all-powerful aliens, but actual magical, omnipotent beings that can take human form if they wish. I really don't like it trending toward 'the past was so advanced and we just forgot it all.' I don't dislike the trope, I just don't want it here. As you say though, evidence points that way, that the great war hylia rescued them from was almost like the biblical flood that wiped away previous civilization, which was almost assuredly advanced. I just don't want the triforce/goddesses to be anything more than what they've been established as being. Hylia can basically be odin in this world, but I like the triforce and the goddesses being purely magical/omnipotent and not based in any type of ancient technology whatsoever. They can be what INSPIRED ancient hyrule to create the crazy tech, but I don't want them to be explained away by technology or aliens or anything of the sort. Not every piece of fantasy needs an explanation.

Yeah, true.

I just wish he hadn't insisted in December 2014 that it would release in 2015, that's the only part of the wait that I'm really salty about. Like, why?

Here is a question:

Will they show the NX footage at E3, Or the Wii U footage at E3?
Or will they show a PC footage.

;)

Or will the two look completely the same and i doesn't matter.

This part seems more likely. Given that the Triforce's existence is also related to so many other concepts that seem outside the realm of technological advancement like the Sacred Realm, Dark World, Lorule, the concept of a new Zelda and Link obtaining the Triforce's power. There's a lot more things than just relic technologies.

Wii U demo stations would be my guess, maybe, maybe a disguised NX trailer to look better, after all there is not going to be thst much of a difference compared to ground up NX games

...I'm very nervous about this Zelda title. It is funny: I've liked recent Zeldas and think Skyward Sword is the second best 3D Zelda of all time but I don't trust the team to deliver. Everything they've suggested has been playing to the weaknesses of modern Zelda and/or suggested that they'd be doing away with the strengths. I'm really hoping this is not my 'Skyward Sword'...

Especially with Nintendo showing off nothing else to wash away my potential bitter tears...I really hope this Zelda looks good and like Zelda.

Capcom always does that for Ace Attorney promotional content, so why not Nintendo?

(They use the iOS version with HD graphics)

Well they're gonna fucking drown you in info.

All this talk about techno and magic in Zelda - Science Fantasy and all - and the screens reminded me the Mononoke Hime vibes of the reveal teaser, and by extension Miyamoto, and then the "ancient Zelda techno world collapsed" theory some are talking about summoned his Nausicaa manga in my mind. Just sayin'

It seems the goddesses are something like that. With Skyward Sword we had Hylia, who was a goddess, who ended her life so that her powers could be reborn in a Hylian girl. That's the closest we've come to seeing a goddess. We've seen other gods, though, like the frogs, Valoo, Jabun, and Deku Tree, and the SS dragons. They all seem fairly mortal, with a few of them having died, and they don't really have the powers you'd think a god would have. They're just powerful/intelligent.

Aliens might not be the best way to look at it, but rather they are another race and humans are their children. Chrono Trigger did it with it having to be aliens. The people of Zeal were just humans who were gifted with magic and built a technologically advanced civilization in the sky and acted like gods. Calamity befell them and they faded from history as ordinary humans took over. So likewise the goddesses could have been powerful magic wielders who were worshiped as gods. It seems telling that the closest things associated with them are robots and stuff. You'd think as goddesses they'd go with something more magical, but instead they leave behind computers and robots.

I recently realized that (major Xenoblade spoilers)
Xenoblade is essentially this. You have Alvis, a computer created by humans that has the power to reshape reality. Those humans became the gods of the new universe that was created and Alvis is essentially the Triforce. He's a computer with the power to grant wishes. Heck, the triforce even seems more limited in what it can do than Alvis. When a wish is made to Alvis he can destroy and reshape the entire universe. You wish for the Triforce to kill Demise and it... drops a big rock on him.

They for whatever reason on the E3 site removed the MP4 video and replaced it with a series of JPG images being updated very quickly.

Eh, I don't consider Jan 2013 to be the announcement of Zelda anymore than I consider this to be announcemnt of the next 3D Mario: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/04/10/nintendo-ead-confirms-it-is-making-a-new-mario-game/

The point remains that it's been delayed a lot, but I can't really blame Aonuma/Zelda team when it's pretty clear that it's being delayed for NX.

But it was the announcement - they announced a Zelda Wii U game. From that minute, its existence was 100% official by the men themselves, therefore it was announced.

I would love the NX one in trailer

It will be identical
Even more compressed if NX is a handheld
And I am more and more leading toward a.NX home.console similar to what the Wii was to the gc in terms of power compared to the wiiu

If NX version would be THAT better they would never going to expose the wiiu version THIS much

It might look the same but have a higher resolution and other stuff.

Just like the existence of the next Mario is 100% official by the men themselves. It doesn't mean much to me. "We're working on this game and thinking of some ideas" is all it amounts to, and they could say that at any point in time because they're always working on the next Mario and Zelda games.

It was E3 2014 when Zelda was first shown and given a release window. That's more along the lines of what I consider an announcement. Either way, like I said it has been delayed a lot and that's disappointing. But it's probably less development hell and more bad timing with the NX.

I'd like to give it the thought of comparing it to Last of Us and the remastered edition.

That's not really that hard to explain. Parallel worlds/alternative dimensions have been confirmed already to exist and these locations are considered to be some of them.

Theoretically, the Triforce pieces, if they are advanced technological relics, can easily have been programmed to seek those who bare a certain genetic structure suited for them. Would explain why Wind Waker Link, the Link who has no connections to the "Spirit of the Hero", didn't automatically got accepted by the Triforce of Courage unlike other Links.

Let's just hope it can live up to the delays and the giant overblown E3 focused solely on it.

It's gonna have to be revolutionary in terms of open world games.

That's such a fucking midichlorians pull though.

yes but what's the poin. I'm very critic toward Nintendo in these days, but 4 years from THAT kind of announcement for this kind of game isn't nothing so...weird

I'd love for the NX version to be upgraded a bit but I'm not sure how realistic that expectation is. This quote from Nintendo is the main reason I think there could be two disparate versions:

The latest instalment in this classic series is scheduled to launch simultaneously for both Wii U and NX, and both versions of the game have been in development in tandem.

Then again I could be reading too much into the wording...

I don't think this is going to happen. As always, they probably delayed it for market reasons, gimmicks and bad management.

I've been expecting co-op since 2013:

bp112_1358992383.png

That was my initial speculation but how will it work considering the game is graphically intense? 3D World uses linear stages, simplified geometry and a camera perspective you have no direct control over.

One thing for sure, this going to be the first HD non spin off Zelda game.
If you are expecting more than that, you are fucked.

I'm personally not expecting more, I don't really have much interest in the game so far as it is.

I know a fair few people who expect TONS due to this sole focus on it during E3.

I.E: There has to be a lot to show across a whole day (or 3) of live stream whilst retaining much of the game a secret.

It's semantics but I think it's important to remember that the Zelda team worked on ALBW which was a holiday 2013 title, but they probably had a planning team on Zelda U while developing it.

I can only imagine it being some kind of online multiplayer. I'm doubtful that they'd go full co-op. Maybe just a little extra mode or something.
