Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

They are still her characters, and ND felt she had enough influence on it to be in the credits. I don't think much, if any, of her writing will be in Uncharted 4 though, Druckmann probably just used some of the foundations she set, to tell his own tale.

Yeah, most characters are hers, of course... I meant the focus and direction of the story. Btw, she isn't credited in the game per se, they just expressed their gratitude for her contributions to the franchise. Which is a great touch.

Anyway, like you and Nightengale said... She possibly laid the groundwork that served for Neil's own version of the story.

We'll probably never know what really happened, but was most likely just creative differences. There doesn't seem to be any bad blood or resentment between them. ND are still making masterpieces and she's got a dream project on her hands, all worked out for the best in the end.
if there wasn't any bad blood then why did they kick her out of ND? they could've just kicked her off the Uc4 project but kept her on the team still.

Amazon shipped my copy of the Limited, should be here on monday and I was lucky enough to preorder it at 60€, now it costs 80€ lol

The average score on N4g just went up to 9.6 out of 79 reviews.

I have no doubts this will hit 95 Metacritic in the coming days. IGN review be damned.

I have never seen the amount of handwringing and mathematical operations around a review score as I have seen in this thread.

I'm not sure if this is some sort of meta-game or if you guys are actually serious about this, but it's kind of sad.

I think some of us just want it to cement itself in a higher bracket that'll be harder to touch.

But you are right. It is pretty sad. Hehe

At this point, we don't just want Uncharted 4 to be the highest rated original game of this gen, we want it to murder other games with the superior 95 MC rating.

I jest

It's nice that Amy Hennig is still on good terms with Naughty Dog. Now that they are done with Uncharted, maybe her studio can do the next one.

If this game doesn't hit a 95 it'll personally etch itself into my mind as another failure by ND FAILING to reach Uncharted 2's masterful score.

When I heard Lucy was reviewing Uncharted 4 this was my initial reaction.

No your initial reaction should have been to ask yourself why you even care in the first place lol

Bad blood or not, something happened that forced everyone involved to sign 30 sheets of NDA to never ever bring up that story for a long, long time.

And no normal split causes that.

I'm just speaking from personal experience, but regardless of how valid a reason it was, pulling the plug on an ongoing project, replacing the leadership altogether as well as reshuffling a lot of the roles in the project, and then making large changes to the point that it's effectively a new project...

There is no world where there's not some friction caused by something like that.

She's going to making Star Wars games from now on. Hope she does something like 1313.

Speaking of that, have we seen what she's been working on yet?

For me it would just be symbolic if it ends up as the highest ranked this gen, mainly because MGS5 is the current "champion" and I found it to be disappointing, so yea I'd be glad to see another game takes its place but other than the symbolic thing it really doesn't matter, even if it drops to 93, reviews are awesome either way and I'm sure the game is going to be a big success (that's what most important for me, as someone who generally prefers his games to be more linear I have a big interest in U4's success)

well said

perhaps she has just cooled down on it in the subsequent few years (likely)

disappointing? yet worthy of an avvy?

Well that avatar can at least tell I'm being sincere with my feelings, I was very hyped for it before release, didn't change it since.

Throw it at a wall and see what sticks.

Actually, I think the things I said are quite factual.

- Nate's brother (Todd Swastick said that his role was recast and replaced by Troy)
- Pirate theme (the visuals from the first teaser hinted on that to begin with)

And in regards to the last Uncharted, this was a line from LA Times interview.

Veteran game developer Amy Hennig, who had long been associated with the "Uncharted" franchise, was previously spearheading the game. But Hennig and Naughty Dog parted ways, and it was unveiled in 2014 that she would be joining Electronic Arts studio Visceral Games to work on a "Star Wars" project. "Uncharted" scripts were jettisoned, voice work was discarded and a new direction was plotted.

"They just weren't our ideas," says Druckmann.

"If we were trying to finish it, we'd be constantly asking, 'What was this other person trying to do here?' We would intellectualize everything and have no instinct," he adds. "That's a road to failure."

To get energized about the game, the pair made one key decision early on: This would be the last "Uncharted" title. Today, Straley jokes that only if Naughty Dog falls into financial ruin will there be another "Uncharted" game. Both say the formula, one of Nathan Drake going off on adventures and then living happily ever after with the character of Elena, was not sustainable.

This, imo, was a strong hint that before Bruce and Neil came onto the project, it was never a story meant to be about Nate's final adventure.

Are we really sure there's still a lot of her in there? Guess we'll never know.

Hopefully she talks about the whole ordeal in the future.

I think a lot of the main plot is hers. The pirates, the brothers thing.

They end the credits with a heartfelt message to her too. Tought it was a nice gesture.

Finished the game this morning, and loved it immensly. They perfected the Uncharted formula, and weren't affraid to take risks (slowing the game down for storytelling/worldbuilding like TLOU Left Behind did). New ideas like the open levels, the grapple and the jeep are brilliant. And graphically it is something else...

And the final chapter hits all the feels. Brilliant.

To be honest, I'm wondering about this myself. If a highly anticipated game disappointed me, I would dump that avatar and virtually burn it with a fire. But thankfully, that hasn't happened to me.

I still have my The Order stache. Have a problem with that?

Music to my ears.

I have seen your avatar since forever............, but I just realized it 's DD int it and not Big Boss :/

his nose shadow always looked like Big Boss's right eye to me :P

True, I assume it was a decision made by the higher ups, maybe Amy showed the game to Sony and they didn't like it, causing a mass reshuffle. I've seen it described as some type of hostile take over on the part of Neil and Bruce, but I'm not sure that's possible. For whatever reason they were asked to take over, I just hope there isn't friction between Amy, Neil and Bruce.

The whole her getting kicked out thing wasn't true was it? Or at least the details on how it was reported, ND even went as far as to release this.

Like I said, we'll probably never know what really happened, but it doesn't seem like she's upset about it, if she was she'd probably just avoid talking about the game. Though it's definitely possible that she's just got over it and is happy for her friends and where she ended up.

Lol took you long enough, tell me the truth, you just skipped my msgs and never really noticed :P

I forget, was she really kicked out? I thought it was an amicable split.

this forbes contributor is a bit iffy. according to ign she was "forced out" - i don't know how else you could force someone out of your company except by firing them.

yeah i'm not 100% sure. that could've been naughty dog doing damage control but amy hennig is responding positively about Uc4 on twitter now so it might not be that either. i really don't know man.

What do you guys think happened between ND and Amy?

Hard to know of course.

I think it had to be something with Todd Stashwick, casted to play Nate's brother. He's friends with Amy, others at Naughty Dog may not have thought he was good in the role and wanted him out, Amy wouldn't accept that. I think the fact that he's now working with Amy on the Visceral game (I think he is, correct me if I'm wrong) is further proof to this.

I think we know too little to make anything more than very generalised and broad assumptions.

This however is very true, so it's just my theory.

I guess there's a difference between "disappointment" like Gurish experienced and sheer vitriolic rage like Ishida experienced

Haha, this is so true. Every time I see a post from Ishida about MGSV, I can't help grinning and feeling sorry for the poor dude. He really wanted to destroy the world when he found out the twist.

like this:

that is lovely

The whole experience sort of fucked him up, haha.

I might have felt the same way had I maintained my hype right up to release. Luckily for me, the insanely negative noises from the spoiler thread re the story made my expectations very low indeed, so I was pleasantly surprised by all of MGSV's plot :P

also, Ishida has calmed down a lot on MGSV now
