[SPOILER THREAD] X-Men: Apocalypse

Even if Angel/Archangel disappoints me, even if Mystique is the center of attention and leader of the x-men for no good reason, even if Jean and Scott are totally wasted, even if the whole movie was shit this scene right here would make me jump out of my seat in the theater and scream "FUCK YEA!!"
That's why I'm asking. But if Mags doesn't deliver the final hit I'm gonna be really disappointed.

Does Jean have any power scenes beyond the cryptic dreams and holding Scott's head to guide his beam stuff? Any psi vs psi stuff against Psylocke? Anything? Thanks

Are Apocalypse's lines as hammy as the 90s cartoon at least?

They're up there. Which makes the decision to not have him look like traditional Apocalypse seem even more like a missed opportunity, really.

How is Cyclops? And do we see Old Xavier and Magneto again?

Cyclops is, I believe (I might be remembering it wrong) the first main mutant you see after Apocalypse's intro. He shows up pretty early and has a pretty big role. He's not quite the young Cyke from Bendis' run, but he's not really Parker's First Class Cyclops, either. But he comes across as Scott pretty cleanly, and I really appreciated Sheridan's performance. It's the best they've done by that character by a damn sight. Not that it's saying much, but still.

Wolverine.

fuck this film for doing jubilee (and Psylocke) like that after seemingly promising her some actual proper screentime.

...but I'm here for costumed Wolvie.

how's Sophie Turner?

I was worried about her, but she also does a pretty good job. She gets a couple pretty big moments, too. Which makes sense - she is Jean Grey, after all.

Turner is definitely not Sansa. People were sweating that, I guess.

Good to hear...does this also fully answer my question about Jean, or is there anything more?

oh that's an enormous relief. I don't think Turner is bad or anything based on GoT, but I wasn't very impressed by anything they showed of her in the trailers.

I didn't want to pop in here but I have to ask, do they don the more X-men like outfits at the end or near the end?

Yeah, their "X-Men" looking costumes from the one PR photo they released come from the end of the movie.

The costumes do they fight in aren't meant to be X-Men costumes, actually.

Figured that was the final image we see is them in those pointing to a more animated X-men direction for the 90s. What do you mean those costumes arent meant to be?

How bad does the J-Law pandering get? More than Wolvie?

I don't think there's much pandering. The way they use her character (the reluctant hero) seems more or less to be how these movies used to treat Wolverine, and she occupies a lot of the same role Wolverine did in Days of Future Past: He's there a lot, and he's helping get people where they need to go, but he's not really the main character. That's Mystique in this one. She's kinda/sorta the catalyst for a lot of the heroes actions, but she herself isn't really a focus. Which is good, because she's basically just doing a half-ass Katniss all movie long.

Is it as bad as the reviews?

I don't think it's bad at all. It's Singer's sloppiest film since Superman Returns, although it's way more fun than that movie is.

Weapon X head gear Wolverine or classic costume Wolverine?

I'm gonna leave that one for someone else to spoil. I'm sure it'll happen soon enough.

I think it would be really cool if Wolvie was masked the entire time

like if Jackman was there, but he also sort of wasn't

any cute father son moments between Mags and Quicksilver?

It's handled kinda weirdly. The movie basically goes for big emotional moments every opportunity it gets, except for Quicksilver and Magneto, where it gets pulled waaaaaaaay back.

but that's probably because Quicksilver is pretty solidly comedic in this movie, so maybe Singer felt like having him and Magneto do the father/son thing would break something. I dunno.

That's super disappointing.

Why include it if they don't do anything with it?

:/ Man, that's too bad. Would have loved to have seen how Fassbinder's Magneto reacts to the nonchalance of Peter's Quicksilver.

Thanks for your reaction! Really looking forward to this.
