I utterly adore this series, ever since my dad introduced me to it with Civ 2 in 1997. I played 10,000+ hours in that game, then Civ 3 was disappointing so I went back to Civ 2, but Civ 4 and 5 absolutely rocked the house once again, and I played both endlessly.
However, I have never been more disappointed in a game announcement than I am right now. I only now just caught it because I slept for 14 hours after a terrible week of night shifts, and when I saw the trailer, I nearly fainted on the spot. The trailer was sheer perfection, and with Eddard Stark narrating, my hypeometer was overheating.
THEN... then I saw the terrible, atrocious, iPad generation art-style they've opted for.
The past year of playing Civ V and only imagining how realistic and detailed Civ VI would be with today's GPU's was enough to excite me more than any other potential game announcement. I imagined smaller, to more scale, more detailed units that actually packed more men/machines/apparatus into whatever unit they were supposed to represent. I imagined even more detailed farmland, mines, terrain, ocean tiles, little fishies jumping around, etc. I imagined more detailed battles between units, a way closer zoom down into intricate details of cities, workers, buildings, wonders, and so on.
I have never seen such spitting in the face to long time fans, and pandering to a whole different audience of sugar fairy cake iPad/app graphic brats in my life. I only have one question... why? Why would they do this?
Suffice it to say, unless they resile from this atrocity, I will continue playing Civ V. I might be alone and this game might make absolute bundles... but they won't have a penny from me.
