Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

they must not play most games or racing games for that matter

An extremely poor excuse for removing a feature that Polyphony implemented on a decade old hardware. You don't care about? Cool, but now you're complaining about people criticizing the lack of a feature that they liked just because you don't find it appealing? Several of us find it provides a fantastic sense of immersion during races and was a standard set by Polyphony themselves. All of the new tracks in GT6 supported it. The standard was already set, doesn't matter what other racing games are doing (or not doing).

What is this shit about no dynamic light system, they better fucking do it. If it can be done on the PS3 it should be 200% possible on the PS4. PD better get their act together.

there is no difference, they want it, i don't mind it. this is why it's an opinion.
They share why they need it, I share why I don't. there is no one right answer but you are saying I am wrong.
PD is always going to make a lot of people unhappy apparently, just like 343 and halo for me.
Sounds like gt6 is better for me anyways if it has more tracks that I enjoy cause without gt made tracks I won't care about gt sports as much even though I'd like to play it on ps4

Your reply "they must not play most games or racing games for that matter" pretty much implies everyone else should agree with you and stop criticizing the lack of a feature they like simply because other games don't have it.

If they have a dynamic lighting solution for events that make sense to have a full time-of-day cycle (Le Mans 24h, etc), I'm totally fine with a variety of pre-determined lighting scenarios on each track for the remainder. Yes, it's a change from where they were trying to go, but if that's where they landed with the decision, it's probably for good reason.

Yes in my mind having this feature is a small part to what is most importantg to the actual racing. thats just what I think, sure.

But I would say it isn't good to go backwards on what they were doing but apparently working out the new stuff for the ps4 game maybe didn't leave enough time to do those extra things that gt6 got after all the engine stuff was up and running. I am sure there are reasons for it but to boycot the game over it is something that seems too far for me.

Dynamic light system?

A: "This time we won't have dynamic transitions. The graphics quality and dynamic transitions aren't in "conflict" this time. We had dynamic transitions in GT5 and GT6 and that had good and bad points. The game will have several weather conditions and light conditions, but those will be announced at a later date. But during gameplay conditions will not change

So I can't race at le mans through the magical transition of sunset to stars?

Oh GT what have you become. Think I know what for a fans felt when forza 5 was announced with all the cut out tracks and cars..... Actually I'm not to fussed about the cars and tracks.....but dynamic time of day! Seriously? Man what a killer... Maybe they should call it GT Short

It's a huge list of missing integral features from the past games; dynamic TOD was just the final thing that could have kept me drawn to the game. I don't care about their focus on competitive online racing.

I think it's becoming evident why they're not calling this GT7.

So they can release a full price GT game, cut features and then remind us it's not GT7 but something different.

I'm finding it very hard to get on board with Sport.

Id rather wait and see what the game is overall first on release, if it doesn't have parts that are fun to race on with good tracks and things that I like I will not stick to it and wait for the next one more than likely to be honest

What I've really wanted for a while is for you to be able to replicate what it's like to drive round the Nurburgring in real life.

Dynamic time/weather progression and circa 50 AI cars of all different classes just driving round. As in, you don't race round it, you just go for a drive round it in your car of choice like you would on an open track day.

I guess that's out.
Assetto Corsa has this albeit online not AI.

“Touristenfahrten” is the most known and beloved configuration by all trackday and motorsports fans. Driving through the “Park” to enter the circuit towards the end of the famous long uphill straight of “döttinger höhe” and then, after a whole lap, exiting again following the indications for the parking lot. To let you experience the best virtual track day, we created this dedicated layout that is available in practice and multiplayer sessions and takes laptimes from the first lap under the bridge, until the structure at the start of the long straight of “döttinger höhe”. Just as in real life!

it truly is.

one of my favorite all-time gaming experiences was driving around the nurgburgring in gt5 with dynamic time changes while listening to some classic music.

this could've been even more impressive.

they've taken that away from me.
I hope your dreams come true man...I really do. Let's tweet Kaz about it.

Although I do wonder how are they going to do the marathon races? Even if dynamic weather isn't in, I have to assume it will be an update. Driveclub and Forza style...

I thought PS4 development was going to be quicker and of course the console plenty powerful enough to do anything GT6 did and do it in higher fidelity. Shadows, resolution, rock solid frame rate and no tearing. Now those things should hopefully be fixed for the actual launch of the game so I'm not too concerned.

Features of the actual gameplay, notably time of day transitions and weather, I fully expected the next PS4 GT game was going to feature and looking better than ever before. After all this time, and after the GT6 engine apparently being built to support PS4 (seemingly a load of bollocks), I'm not angry PD, I'm just disappointed.

Well according to Kaz this might as well be GT7.

"Originally our focus was the sport mode, hence the name GT Sport, but with all the features we added, we could have called it GT7."

So far I'm having mixed feelings with GTS. I had a love, hate relationship with GT5 and 6, so like most GT fans I'm very weary when comes to this franchise now. Hoping it turns out good.

looks like the thread is about done for me anyways, it's mostly a hate thread which is ok honestly but not a lot to talk about the game itself but just talking about what it's missing or what it doesn't do right. Which, is really fine I am not being sour on it, just go to other threads where things are a little more positive on other games is all. Will keep a look out on new videos and new news which may not happen any time soon but I have no idea. Would like to see other tracks though as the one they like to show most has no interest to me as much as some other tracks. Wish people didn't build that track up so much it seems to be all they show, it's almost like they want to make nur the gt game at times lol

I just have to assume that everything out of Kaz's mouth is mostly bullshit or lost in translation. I will tell myself this is nothing more than prologue 2 and that a proper GT7 is around the corner. Hopefully GTS gets enough negative press they get the wakeup call they've needed and apparently snoozed on since GT5. I just hope the iRacing-like safety rating system comes over from GTS to GT7. If this is the only GT game we get on PS4...disappointment doesn't even begin to describe it. GTS is PD focusing on all the stuff they aren't very good at and not playing to any of the strengths of what makes PD and GT great.

It's not a hate thread. As a die hard GT fan for coming up 20 years I to am very disappointed in what I can see happening.

Frankly the way this game is shaping up, and the negative press and impressions it's getting, Sony needs to either delay this game to add in features/content, or lower in price and announce that a full fledged GT7 is in development (because for a full priced game it's pretty pathetic content/feature wise, especially compared to its predecessors)

The continued success of GT must have brought a level of scrutiny or interest from bean counters at Sony that demanded a lower common denominator game that can reach the maximum possible audience and sell as many copies as possible. That clarity of intent from GT1 through 4 started to erode a little.

Then Kaz set out to seek validation from the auto industry and the FIA about his vision, and in the process oversteered the franchise.

There is absolutely no question about the qualities and talent of Polyphony Digital, but it's hard to not wonder about the management of the studio, their roadmap and sustainability on the long term. It would be a sad day if they were to be disbanded. With all due respect to every other developer of great racing games out there - nobody understands and conveys the sheer adoration for the automobile as Polyphony can do.

I suppose that's all to say that I'm rather disappointed in what I've seen as whole so far.

I think its their involvement with the FIA that has really led to this. They seem to want to use this game to prevent the decline of motorsports.

Has any pricing info been announced? Should we expect a full price game?
I've always assumed this would be a budget title. Recent information strengthens that assumption.

GT Sport |OT| GT Short

I do like that.

To be honest we could have had:

GT Sport |OT| GT Port

a couple of years ago and been a lot happier...

I assumed that too, but then the official announcement came out, and while what they showed off reflected my assumption they sure as hell didn't price it like a budget title.

I want PD to go back to focus on driving cars more than racing cars. If you want to be really serious about racing online, the car becomes a tool for your craft more than something you lust after. Shaving .01 of a second off a sector in a track you have lapped 200 times is what gets you going, not taking photos of your car in a barn. Telemetry becomes your car porn. Next is your racing rig, if you get serious about racing online, your rig quickly follows suit and starts to push the limits of your budget. I love racing, but racing is not what a GT game should revolve around. Driving..the driving experience is what has always captivated me in GT games. Walking into my virtual garage of hundreds of cars , picking the one that suits my mood and then taking for a drive. Normal stock cars, like ones you could go to any dealer right now and buy, on normal stock tires are where GT has always shined. Racing cars are about precision tuning, fine tolerances, millimeters, milligrams and milliseconds. It is a much more clinical approach to the automobile. Sportscars, roadsters, gran tours... a vehicle that feels familiar but exhilarates when you get to push them harder than you ever dared in real life. I want that in my GT games.

I think they should double down on the GPS course maker and get that working the way we all hoped it would. PD should be the first racing sim to have procedural generated roads too. Tour a region or country, stopping off at local race tracks for a track day in your favorite car. Have always online areas a-la destiny where you are driving a back country road winding through a hillside where you are going for a nice drive, getting the tires to bark a little bit on the windy bits when all of a sudden a car zips past you..fuck that sunday drive is over, its on, and you down shift a gear, plant it and the chase is on...and right as you are about to pass him on a diving double left hander, three on coming cars out having their own fun in the hills.. you swerve at the last second and trash your car into a woods. Your car is badly damaged, towed back to your virtual garage where you see it sitting in its crumpled heap. Yep, all damage, wear and tear are persistent in this world. The engine needs work, but you don't want to ditch it. You have a lot of history with this engine, 25,000 miles on it, across 4 continents. You want to keep that original engine so you pay more to fix that and loads of body work. Maybe you leave some less important bits unrepaired, gives your car a little character. Change up the paint job while you are at it and install some upgrades. There are many like it, but this one is yours. The more you drive the car, the more it wears, original parts gaining a little more rattle, a little less HP, but a hell of a lot more character. Eventually you buy a faster, better car, but you get to keep this one parked front and center in your virtual garage to admire every time you enter it to hop into your new ride. Maybe some sunday down the road you hop back in it and head to those hills again to reclaim your lost glory.

That is some shit I want in GT!

I think the key point is handing over the management to someone who is clearly a passionate and criative guy, as Kaz is, but evetually isn't a business kind of leader. Maybe Poliphony should be run by someone who is more practical and capable of fighting for the vision that Kaz thinks is best for its games, because as it is now, I can't tell if there is any focus on what they are trying to achieve. It's all over the place in terms of what their games deliver, there is no relationship being stabilish with the fan base and every new game that they announced is always released on a path full of broken promises, delays, misleading PR and overall bad communication with the press and mostly with the fans.

What I find really funny is this tendency to point all the blames on Sony. Off course they can, and probably do, pressure things in the way they think it's best, but I'm sure they do so with every other sucessful studio under their control. And you don't find, say, Naughty Dog going nuts destroying their IPs.

And event if they go full on over PD I find it hard to believe that after all these years they still get to take an absurd ammount of time to develop. Three years to make a game with far less assets and features on a considerably more powerful and easier to develop hardware as it's the case now just goes to show you how much free pass they still get.

When GT Short gets released and manages to sell less than GT6 (and it will as soon as word comes out that it's a online game mostly), maybe, just maybe, things will change.

I don't know why, but Yamauchi was very happy in the event! (maybe for trolling us)
We all saw his dancing gif, and there is another happy moment in this video too. I can't make gif, it's at 1:17 when the lights go off.

I like translator guy in that moment! he doesn't give a fuck in that situation and just continues the translation! :D

It's not a deal breaker for me. I'll still get the game.
But what a fu**** disappointment if true. Driving around the Nurburgring and seeing the sun rise and the transition to and from raining was a huge part of why I enjoyed GT5 and 6...

I would be happy too if I was a man that from nothing, thanks to a videogame, became a racing driver, had connection with the FIA and hundreds of others racing organizations, the biggest car manifactures just design "vision" cars for my game, and last but not least, made a lot of money.

But GT Sport isn't what a GT game should be.

I would be happy with those feature cut backs and meh graphics if they at least upped the car count.

16 is OK but how rad would it be to do races with 32? Might make oval races actually interesting.

What does the deluxe edition include over the normal one?
This is the stuff included in the limited edition, which I assume will be part of the digital deluxe edition as well.

  • GT Sport Starter Pack (8x Cars) – Gain immediate access to cars within various race class, including GT4, Rally, and more
  • $1MM In-Game Credit – Build and customize your personalized garage
  • Livery Sticker Pack – Bonus livery of numerous brands and logos
  • 30x PS4 GT Sport Themed Avatars – Based on selected GT Sport featured vehicles
  • Racing Helmet – For your customized driver profile

It definitely isnt what GT has been in the past for me, but cant say I dont like this direction either. It feels like an upgrade on their GT Academy efforts, which has always been super fun for me. It's actually what got me into iRacing too.

I really hope that they do come out with a GT7 of sorts on the PS4 though.

With GT it has always been the variety that I liked along with the car porn. I spent countless hours just playing on Tahiti and the other rally tracks till I got the drifting bug and spent all my time doing that. When GT4 came out and showed off Grand Canyon and the drift cars, it was like the best racing game ever for me. And that was only a fraction of the things you could do in GT. Who know where my interests could have gone if they put bikes in GT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7vlWKD67sM
