Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

The best part about this E3 is going to be hearing jack SHIT about these consoles. These rumours will be floating around until fall.

( rumours as in debating specs, not that they exist/dont exist )

Three weeks this coming Monday and my excitement level is already at 9.13745/10.

This is going to be a reeeeeeaaaaaallllly long 3 weeks. No more leaks, please :(

I think we will.

Your avatar gives me a headache breh.

anyone expecting a 50% trade in deal on any of these new consoles is delusional

I agree. That would cost MS and Sony A LOT.

There's a pretty big price difference between a PS+/Xbox Gold subscription and a phone contract (40$+/month). On top of that, the market for phones is way bigger and diverse, which means returned phones can be sold more easily.

This is probably my most pumped E3 is quite sometime.

Prepare for Xbox One Slim and more convergence on the PC front.

Perhaps Microsoft will allude to Scorpio, going so far as to say something like "look forward to more of our story in bringing the next level of Windows gaming to more devices in early 2017," but it seems highly unlikely they'll officially announce it.

Seems like a pretty big increase to not have exclusive content made for it.

It'll be kinda like this

what's your point?

I think hes trying to say that people are accustomed to buying tiered levels of consumer electronics, and I agree

Theres so many people in the world who would be fine with the Moto G, but they go straight for the Samsungs and iPhones, they dont care about the other options, and retailers and manufacturers know that "flagship" attraction and brand recognition is valuable

Luckily for the people who do peruse options, they will have an entry-level Xbox slim (was that a bit Mattrick-y?) but i'm sure Microsoft will market the Scorpio to hell and back and thus regular people will be sure of what Xbox is the best to buy, if they want one.

Some people are quick to dismiss the phone comparison but it really is comparable here, you ask a retailer for a Samsung and they'll immediately assume you mean the Galaxy S series, you ask a retailer for a Playstation and they'll immediately direct you to the PS4 (soon the Neo), you ask a retailer for an Xbox and they'll immediately direct you to the Scorpio model

Marketing will ensure that Xbox ____ and Playstation _____ are the things to buy and you wont be mistaken at all

If people weren't confused from Xbox 360 core, and premium...they aren't going to be confused about Xbox One, and Xbox One + or whatever they name it. It really is that simple.

non-enthusiasts were definitely confused about the 360 core thing IMO at least initially.

What if they're announced simultaneously? The slim model may very well just be the basic box that's intended for budget conscious consumers.

That would be more "honest" and upfront, but I think it's way too soon for a Scorpio reveal right now. Maybe they could launch the slim model one year ago instead of this summer, 2 years after the launch, 2 years before Scorpio.

Ya, IF no one is buying xbox hardware cause everything is on their PC from here on out, I'm gonna say gaming will head south in a big way.

Number one reason is because optimization for Xbox hardware will be gone. People will play the next halo on their toaster cause they can and say 'this looks shite' and that will be it.

Releasing a more expensive game box that no one has reason to buy in a year is good way to make sure that happens.

At that point, PS5 will likely have the Xbox app available.

considering I bought an xbox one last year mainly to play scalebound later (too early I know) I'm a little peeved about it to be honest. need to decide if I want to upgrade to scorpio or not

You will upgrade.

Just wait to see the game in action on it along with Cyberpunk 2077 and the new Elder Scrolls :)

Am I the only one hyped to see (and play) scalebound on xbox scorpio?

Hell nah that was one of my first thoughts, my only gripe (I think nearly everyones gripe) about Scalebound is the rickety framerate, i'd love to see that running at at 60fps smooth, or at least like this

See if ms does a slim and a Scorpio they are going to be between a rock and a hard place annoucing. They could announce it at this e3 and have lackluster sales all the way till next winter. Or they can wait to announce it in the spring and piss off people that just bought a slim.

People who bought a Gameboy Micro were not annoyed that the Nintendo DS just came out

EDIT: absolutely crap and wrong example given by me, but cmon, you know what i mean

The 360 E and the Xbone are an apt comparison

That would be cool, but I ultimately hope they each just have apps and services that are OS and device agnostic. Probably a couple of gens away from something like that though.

By the time this game hits the shelves, the medium-range PC GPUs will have crossed the magic 10TFlops mark. Let's not even start with premium GPUs at that time.

People are gonna be pissed because they bought the lower priced, lowered powered hardware but still able to play the same games as the higher prices, and higher powered hardware that comes out a little later? Yes, some will, majority? Probably not. Most people look for the best bang for buck...if you want to get into "this gen" then a cheaper Xbox One Slim (or even yet, a regular Xbox One for the low). When consoles start flying off the shelves is when those cheap slim versions come out. Just saying.

They had already announced the one by the time they announced the 360 E

Fuck its takes the xbox one design even

I dont agree, i think this is both Sonys and MSs way to start next gen. There will be no next gen like we knew them before. From this point on there will just be new hardware every 2-3 years with all the old stuff that still works on them. Like PC, or cell phones. A new box was gonna come sooner or later, it just happens to be sooner than they wanted because of Sony forcing their hand.

And as someone who owns a PC a ps4 and xbox one, id much rather have a small xbox in my living room on my 50 inch TV than game on a 20 inch in my office. I have a big tower so i aint moving that in my living room.

There will always be a need for a "console" and plus, consoles are more attractive to the casuals.

In your case, you may be just fine with a streaming stick.

They had already announced the one by the time they announced the 360 E

Fuck its takes the xbox one design even

Gah, okay, the point is that people buy things all the time being fully ignorant of the fact that its about to become outdated

There will be many people who buy a PS4 the day before the PS4 Neo gets announced
There will be many people who buy an Xbone the day before Scorpio gets announced
There will be many people who buy an iPhone the day before iPhone 7 or 7s. gets announced
There will be many people who buy a 3DS before they make another one thats bigger or smaller or wider or whatever

Yeah,, there will be a small amount of people who get annoyed, but youre making this dilemma alot bigger then it'll actually be and seem to imply its some sort of issue that will be exclusive to Scorpio and has never happened before

EDIT: I'm not even really a fan of the whole accelerated lifespan of consoles either, but I am very open to having the 8th gens hardware updated considering that they launched with underwhelming hardware, as much as many would like to argue that developers should keep squeezing every last drop out of what we have

Your right that there will be some people that buy a Console right before they announce a new better one. But its still shitty to say hey here's a brand new slim console, like previous gens and then 6 months later say fuck that slim here is next gen 3 years earlier than before. It won't be a couple people buying Slims, it will be a couple million.

Yeah but like I just said, people buy consoles around the end of their stardom all the time, doesnt matter if its slim or fat or green or blue. Obsoletion just happens whether we like it or not,

Nobodys going to think "Theyve just released a slim one, this means four more years!" Its just a more attractive entry-level model whilst they prepare the big one coming shortly after, and yeah people'll buy it but, its just another piece of hardware

Every electronics company coerces people into buying products that are out to become outdated all the time, its not great but, what are you gonna do

Gameboy Advance SP comes out whilst Nintendo is designing the DS to be released a year later, PS3 Super Slim came out literally a few months before PS4 was announced (not trying to deflect the issue, just stating that its such a normality)

People are used to newer technology being announced and released. This is a first for the console industry in some way, but I dont think we are going to see a huge uproar over the idea at all. People will buy what they can when they can.

This is getting so confusing...Is this a proper successor, as in the next numbered console, or an intermediary step before the Xbox Two? It seems that both Sony and Microsoft have decided to pursue the upgrade model route, with an upgraded platform every three years or so...

Just think of iphones. Only longer cycles.

He's got to be the guy keeping Cafepress afloat

It wont be confusing by the time we know, journalists whispering rumours arent really the best PR guys lol
