The Witcher III: Blood & Wine |OT| One last contract, one last plough

I've always had this issue since I started playing this game. I barely have any formulas oils or bombs. I go to a merchant in the dlc and he has so many to buy but I'm always dirt poor and can't afford anything. I must be playing wrong.. and my gear barely has stones socketed since the ones I have are all shit.. or are they supposed to be shitty bonuses?

Any advice for
Daphne?
Enemy spoiler for a knights tale.

It's damn hard in DM. Using oil but get slaughtered in a few hits.

Worst thing about DM is those damn load times.

Question about how far I am into the Main quest
I just reached the
point of no return. Is this the final mission? Because if it is the main quest of the expansion felt really short.

After a year on the market and 15 or so patches, I can't believe it's at it's worst now. Maybe I'm just picky, but it's unplayable for me due to the fact that it makes me angry instead of giving me enjoyment. Perhaps CDPR thought they were doing the community a favor with this, but clearly they didn't have it tested beyond their studio.

Am I insane or does anyone else feel the same way?

Do you understand any of the methodology for why they did any of the changes or is responsiveness the only thing factor for you? I'd posit the trade off is that you spend much less time in the menus now because everything is sorted so clearly, taking time finding what you're looking for has been cut down.

My sole complaint with the DLC so far (minor optional monster contract spoilers):

So after years of hype from TW2, we finally get to fight a
Slyzard.
This is a creature that, according to a certain character's backstory, is strong enough to
almost wipe out a full team of veteran witchers.
One of the most dangerous monsters in the world, easily.

Then, midway through a certain contract in this game, Geralt finishes examining a corpse and identifies the attacker:
Gotta be a slyzard.
And then
kills two with very little fanfare, as if they were some dumb nekkers.

They also don't look anywhere near as cool as in the TW2 artwork.

Got my Feline Grandmaster set a few hours ago, pretty cool.

Just got my Griffin Grandmaster set, really cool, but WHY DO I STILL LOOK LIKE A TEAPOT?

I used a mod that fixed that but considering there was a new upgrade for it in this I figured they might have altered the shape of it. NOPE.

Y U DO DIS CDPR?!?

Torn between the Manticore and Grandmaster Ursine.

Manticore is awesome and fits Toussaint, but Grandmaster Ursine is so badass!
In the same boat. It's strange but I find Ursine a bit out of place in Toussaint. Mind you that is Geralt in general here but still. At the same time I get overly obsessed with set bonuses and stats so its hard to decide.

I have ursine with white/black dye, I don't care if it's out of place you look so sweet

You guys make me want to switch from my moon armour now. Any of you playing on death march and having any success with the improved witcher armours? Going to be hard to leave this crit build it does a lot of damage.

Gaf, I'm lvl 38. I have no more contracts to do, finished all HoS quests that were in my log and all other side quests that didn't involved gwent or brawling.
Is there anything else I should do before B&W?

this has not been my experience.. switching tabs is almost instant for me.. I'm on ps4

Going through the different parts of your inventory? It has a few seconds stutter/load for each bit for me.

Do you have many items in your inventory? I wonder if it's something to do with one of the patchs. Even before the new UI it was going slow for me (annoying to get to what the merchant is selling etc).

Edit; also PS4.

Griffin looks like butt, always has and still does. The ugly default colors, the rounded chest. Also it's supposed to be fucking sign armor used for magic builds, and instead looks like bad heavy armor.

I haven't gotten grandmaster yet, right now I'm rocking feline gloves, boots, and legs, but with an ornate robe because it looks so good and feels like it fits the setting. Wish I could dye non-witcher gear :(

You have quite a bit to go but it all happens in sequence. It does give you opportunities to say "I'll meet you there" or "I need to prepare first". But given what actually happens in the story, you won't want to stop your progress. At least I didn't.

No. I hit it at 40 and I very quickly was leveled out of alot of quests. Get in there!

Managed to score 239 in a round today with my Northern Realms against Nilfgaard. Spies everywhere.

Love the look people give when you ask them if they play Gwent. Their face says "fuck yes, I play Gwent, let's go!"

Cerys' card is amazing, can be worth like 46 points. The Queen stay The Queen.

Pretty impressive card strength. Yeah spies, medics and decoys can make a nasty team. Villentretmerth's scorch card really makes the deck because he can be used multiple times if swapped with decoy after first placement or retrieved from the deck by a medic when scorched. Hilarity ensues if combined with a frost card for added insult.

Regarding Skellige's deck, Cerys' hero card is probably the best hero card in Gwent now if your Skellige deck is loaded correctly. Ermion's card is also pretty nasty if your ranged attack row is lined with berserkers.

Crach an Craite's leader card can really screw you since he throws all your used cards back into your deck, essentially making them unusable for the rest of the match. Medics are pretty much rendered useless.

Yeah but it also means that you can reuse cards that summon all cards of the same type.

Oh wow, good find! Northern Realms gets the short end of the stick then...lol. I don't recall that deck having summoner cards.

Totally agree. I went in at level 39 and was at 43 by the end of the second main quest.
Monsters are at the same level as Geralt, so you'll gain a lot of XP quickly from just exploring the land. Granted I did quite a few side quests because a majority of them at the start fall between level 36 to 38 and net you like 150 XP if not overleveled. Don't screw yourself from not getting those extra XP points.

PC users have never experienced any slow menu issues up until this UI upgrade, so that's probably some of the complaints. This might have to do with how much stuff you have as well, but it wasn't ever an issue previously.
The console users have always had slower UI issues, so it actually might be improved for them.

That would explain why mine is slow as hell. I have a LOT of items since I loot everything in sight.

It takes me back to my Skyrim chest which used to take forever to load up due to the insane amount of potions I hoarded. Maybe I'm the problem. Not the game.

I love the new option to add limitless custom markers on the map. I go through my journal and mark the locations of all the quests and then just travel to whatever points are in proximity to each other, knocking off each quest in the most efficient way possible.

Yea, I can see why. I decided to just reload my save. I'm gonna admit though,
the vampires attacking the city is pretty cool, and I was right about all those hooded women being Bruxa's. It would be even cooler if you could leave the city in that state and still travel around the rest of Toussaint, then everytime you traveled back you could fight your way through vampires.

ending spoilers
such a burn

I have a niggling feeling that I would've enjoyed the ending I didn't choose better. This was not the case with the base game and HoS, where I felt utterly satisfied.

I'm on PC and the menu isn't slow at all.

I did both, since I saved at the right spot :p
Both are interesting, but one definitely feels better

yeah, the path i went down spiraled into a shit free fall part way through. reloaded and made other decisions and i was quite happy. much better path to the end as well.

You don't actually need to keep him alive. I failed miserably at doing so, and he just got up after the fight ended :D
lol... I spent like 45m re-doing it over and over cuz I thought it would impact something
I just did that (third) boss last night. Let's just say the fight was over pretty quickly, lol.
you do so much damage :O i think I needed... 3 'flip overs' (almost 2 ;p) ...and that's on normal difficulty haha

Lol money glitch is hilarious. I'm over 200 mill in 10 min.

I haven't started Blood and wine yet, it's in my quest list though. I'm still on wild hunt, but can I do the mission that requires me to get the dye merchants and continue to do quests from the main game whilst the dyed armor is equipped?

Same question goes for the mutations

Did they improve the AA?, the IQ is just astounding, much better than I remember.

They've definitely done something on console, because my PS4 sounds like it's about to take off when I play this expansion, but when I fast traveled to White Orchard, it went silent again. I have to play it wearing headphones.

See this is one of my frustrations. I find it's harder to find what I'm looking for due to the floating tooltip blocking my view, and the lack of a functioning sort option. Try sorting your crafting ingredients by price and you'll see what I mean. It literally does not work.

Responsiveness is probably half my frustration- not all of it. It wouldn't be so bad if it was simply lag switching tab to tab, but when actually navigating through the various items in any given tab has a delay as well, to me, that's not acceptable.

I'm sure the amount of items in my inventory isn't helping. Maybe I should start a fresh character on a blood and wine only playthrough so I have minimal items.

Seems like it to me on PS4, lighting is also better in a very different way, and it seems there's a completely new method for the motion blur. Haven't noticed the PS4 getting any louder with Blood and Wine though.

I'm on PC, but there seems to be a big improvement to AA, and now that you mention it, yeah, motion blur looks way better now.

the one i like is choosing syanna, but there are certain things you have to do to make it the "best" ending

There were several moments during the main quest that honestly felt a little disjointed and made me wonder if I'd actually missed something. Mid-to-late game spoilers follow:

The reveal of Rhena being Syanna felt super brief, Detlaff had his tantrum then buggered off to Tesham Mutna to chill out. He says bring her to me within three days or else. Syanna reunites with her sister who imprisons her. Then three days pass with Regis and Geralt just.. doing what exactly? They know Detlaff went to Tesham Mutna and they know where Syanna is, why not try to convince Anarietta to release her, or try to discuss things with Detlaff? They wait three days, do nothing and the city is attacked just like he said. It felt weird there was no gameplay before the three days was up.

It was also kind of weird to have Regis and Detlaff going off together and then showing up unexpectedly (like at Orianna's house and then at Dun Tynne). It felt unusual for those two characters to have so much off-screen time together. I would've liked to have spent more time with those two characters before everything goes to shit.

The whole Syanna thing felt quite rushed tbh. We hear about her for the first time, then we meet her and she's revealed to be Rhena, then she's imprisoned, then dead. Obviously this would change depending on the ending you choose, but still.

Just venting really.

Can you play Blood and Wine before Hearts Of Stone without any complications? For some reason my game didn't save my whole playthrough of Hearts of Stone.. So im at where I left Geralt right BEFORE I started Hearts Of Stone, either my saves fucked up or the Save is lost between the others..

There were several moments during the main quest that honestly felt a little disjointed and made me wonder if I'd actually missed something. Mid-to-late game spoilers follow:

I thought it was odd that Detlaff attacked Beauclair prematurely. Did three days really go by with Geralt and Regis doing nothing? I thought the timeline was that they stormed the castle, and it was during their subsequent meeting with the Duchess that Detlaff and his vampires attacked without warning

Regis stated that Detlaff was impulsive, headstrong, and easily guided by his emotions. However, he also mentioned that he is not malicious towards humans. I find it odd that he chose to attack Beauclair in order to force Syanna into a meeting. It would've made more sense if he confronted Geralt and Regis instead of taking out his frustration on innocents.

You'll learn more about Syanna's character and life story if you choose to help her instead of seeking the Unseen Elder.

Just reached a part where it told me that I'm at a turning point and some side quests won't be available after. Anyone know which quests those are?

Those a pretty much my issues too, it feels rushed when you reach the point of no return
some things could have benefitted to be fleshed out a bit

Anyone have issues with the Gwent Book?

I bought it from the merchant, opened it and it says I already have all the cards. According the the Drwent card tracking app, I'm still missing a few basic ones.

I swear it said "three days later" prior to that cutscene where... that... happens. I'll see how I go finishing up all the side quests and question marks. If at the end of that I still have an annoying feeling about the ending I'll replay it.

The mutation sidequest was so good. I loved the little touch of water spurting out of the side of the portal that wasnt underwater
