Because now, with the recent pledged delegate additions and these newly confirmed Supers, Hillary has the majority of the delegates, and is the presumptive nominee.

She didn't quite have enough even with the previously confirmed superdelegates to cross the threshold (after PR yesterday it would have been ~22 short). The supers that they contacted today have either not publicly confirmed for her yet or are ones that previously were going to vote Sanders and told AP that they were going to switch.

The career he'll go back to is his career as US senator in a safe seat in a safe state where he won 80% of the primary vote. The Democrats aren't going to run a serious candidate against Bernie, who votes and caucuses with them in the senate, especially not in an election where they're likely to win or lose the senate by a single seat.

His Senate seat is safe. But he is next in line for the sweet, sweet Senate Budget Committee Chair and that is not necessarily as safe.

Thing is, they don't call it at 269. They don't have to wait for the very last polls to close in the last states, but they don't call it until someone actually hits 270 based off all data and projections from states that have closed. But in a hypothetical scenario where there is literally one state left and that one state will determine the election, and that one state always goes to the Democrat, and all the polls have it heavily in favor of the Democrat, and the exit polls (unreleased to the public) are all heavily for the Democrat, it doesn't matter. The decision desks wait. And as soon as the poll finally closes, the election is called.

Hit the number. It's still mathematically possible -- not probable, but possible -- that Sanders can take the pledged count lead. In a general election, that's good enough to not call it. I say it should be here. But don't wait for the super delegates, and don't count them now. They're absurd.

Anyway, speaking of calling it, I think I'm going to call a wrap on my participation in this topic, it's taken up entirely too much of my time this evening. 1000 points to everybody, this week's winner is Gahiggidy who will now read the credits as a James Bond supervillain plotting on his third grade classmates during recess.

Can you elaborate on the timeline here? I'm looking at the Texas Democratic primary and caucuses, 2008 and Texas caucuses entries on Wikipedia. In 2008, the AP called the race on June 3, but Texas already had its primary on March 4 where it allocated about 2/3 (126/193) of the pledged delegates. I don't think this is analogous to California's situation in 2016.
 
I'm starting to think Sanders will suspend his campaign once he gets back to Vermont. Not actually "drop out", as suspending would still give him the opportunity to make a case at the convention and get back if this imminent indictment people are sure is coming actually happens.

Texas had a weird primary setup in 2008; the final stage of the primary, the state convention, was on June 7th. The point is not that the California primary is the same thing as the Texas state convention, the point is that the AP called the race when the delegate standings, including the superdelegates, came to the point that one candidate had won mathematically. Even though other people had yet to express their opinions and other delegates remained unpledged. And that's OK.

As we get closer to Election Day, the call of history is going to get louder and louder for many voters. Especially if Trump continues to push voters towards that call.

Yeah, on one hand, bout damn time, took us long enough, but on the other hand it only took us a bit more than one lifetime to go from women's suffrage to, fingers crossed, a female president.
 
After tomorrow she'll have enough delegates even without counting Supers. Bernie is done. There's no way she doesn't take California and that's almost enough on its own.

I also think it's a beautiful piece of kismet that she will be president when that 100 year anniversary takes place.
 
Let it be said tumultuous and hilarious times are incoming. If Bernie don't man up soon, don't say I didn't warn people.

As for clinton let it be said it's a great achievement we are catching up to other parts in the world in letting women be our leaders or let try to get involved in the process. Besides obama seriously didn't think I would ever see either moment in my lifetime.
