Destiny: Rise of Iron Launches September 20th (PS4/XB1), lots of details leak

Why does this require The Taken King? I really dislike their release structure.

Requiring all existing expansions for the latest expansion isn't new to MMOs, and will likely have a 60$ version that catches people up to full box level anyway. Taken King requires owning both Dark Below and House of Wolves.

We also don't know if they're going to flatten the box level for this release and just make DB/HoW free to everyone.

I'm not expecting more than 1 strike (2 strikes for ps4 peeps), but really guys, let's wait for tomorrow to know for sure

The fact that there is more people talking about how much new content costs instead of what is it going to be it's sad.

And i say that living in Argentina where games costs a small fortune and we can't easily get them even if we had the money.

What is the point in posts like this? Yes, they're trying to make money. Glad you figured that out. That's how it works. People need to stop pretending like video games are some sacred form of art.

THIS

So if i buy the complete edition, will it come with a digital code for which i can use/redeem it via phone then trade back into best buy for almost close to $30-$40 like i did with taken king. I wonder if they'll learn that lesson or goof up again.

This.

I'm in Singapore, where games consistently cost about 1.5x the price it would elsewhere (I just payed $90 for Overwatch, for example) so yea, I understand a thing or two about not wanting to pay too much money for games some times.

But the $$$$$ argument is a bullshit argument. Everything costs money. Do I want everything to be free or cheap or to work in my benefit? Of course, why wouldn't I?

Hard truth is, everything costs money to make. Don't want to pay for the Taken King before buying Rise of Iron? That's your decision to make. I don't even play Destiny anymore, skipped Taken King because I study at a college in America and it wouldn't make sense time-wise. With Rise of Iron, I'm looking to maybe get back in. Depends on what they do.

If you think the product isn't worth the amount of value they give it, that's completely okay. Just don't make it seem like developers wanting money is a bad thing. That's how this industry, and every other industry works.

Looking forward to see what this brings.

Too many code branching paths without leveling the user base. How would you balance the different max light levels etc (you cant)

If you dont have The Taken King you are missing out, it is an excellent update, changed the game for me from good to excellent. Although still get frustrated by no match making for raids

Make TTK and other updates free, bam. Playerbase is happy and they make more money. It's almost like it makes sense, they aren't going to be making any more from those expansions anyway. Just look at WOW.

They've already made all the PvP maps from previous expansions free - I'm assuming Rise of Iron will make all of the Taken King PvP maps free to the entire playerbase.

And I'm almost sure Bungie will be having expansions just become part of vanilla later on. I mean, it is the same publisher as WoW.

Does that mean they are already prepping a leap to the next build engines?

How does this even work?
Id say it's time? We're going on 3 years that ps4/X1 came out. Although I would think they would have started with Destiny 2, as u can really piss people off who have supported ur game thus far on PS3/360, and spent money for expansions etc.

They can ship entire new clients as updates.

In fact, they've already done this. Taken King wasn't a patch. It was literally the entirety of Destiny re-downloaded as a new client.

We Wheel of Time now.

Fixed that for ya.

Just got done doing CoE, got my last 335 gauntlets, now all 3 warlocks are 335. Hopped on GAF and saw this and now i'm like time to start edging factions and stacking daily bounties.
Day one OP.

I'm sorry bruh, but no one needs THIS much space magic.

So the big story arc about the traveler and everything will be finished in Destiny 3?

All this DLC and updates just seem like tertiary happenings while there's no conclusion on sight. I suppose I should have expected as much with all the 10-year-plan/support talk.

The thing I'm most interested is what there'll be to do in the new social area, and what kind of NPCs will be there. Presumably it'll be the place in the Plaguelands where Saladin has set up camp, and he'll probably have some gear to sell, but besides that, who would be hanging out in a place like that? Maybe it'll just be all the rest of the surviving Iron Lords and some robots? There must be a decent amount of ongoing quests/reward systems if they're adding a whole new social area for it. Not even TTK got that.

And if Saladin's out there, I wonder who'll be running the Iron Banner back at the Tower (unless it moves out there with him)?

If Rise of Iron is really that small I hope they announce additional support following it or tease that Destiny 2 is sooner than next September. It would unbelievable to me that they would repeat Year 2 again.

While I'm sure that dropping last gen provides a handful of easy quick benefits (like vault space) I don't know that an expansion is going to really highlight any super meaningful changes as a result of that. The new social space/Zone will hopefully benefit, but I can't imagine they'd have the time or ability to make enormous changes to existing Zones to benefit, will probably have to wait until Destiny 2 or whatever for that.

I'm still curious what they do and I'll watch that livestream they have scheduled for tomorrow (?), but having spent over 800 hours with Destiny and dropping it late last year I'm still not feeling any real pull to come back at all with their April update or anything we know of so far with this. Feel like they need a real overhaul only a full on-sequel is going to do. That said releasing in September is pretty good timing, if there's not much else around it's release I might still check it out depending.

Like Taken King, it's likely to come with a 60$ version with all the DLC for newcomers

Ah ok! I have the base game and spent $75AUD and would then have to spend another $75 to get this and TTK. Seems like a lot of money for one game. I understand it has a fair bit of content but I'm not sure one game is worth $150. But that's just me I suppose.

I really wish they made exotics powerful enough to be worth damn slot. I feel like you can still get legendaries better than the current crop of exotics.

Yep, I have almost every Exotic available yet my loadout doesn't include one 95% of the time. On one hand, it's nice that there's no exotic so powerful that not using it feels like you're gimping yourself, and it's cool that there's a pretty large selection of viable Legendaries (unlike year 1), but at the same time it kind of feels like a waste to have all these awesome looking weapons that aren't actually that special. It'll be great if Bungie's eventually able to find a way to balance out both sides, but I'd hate to be the guy who has to figure that one out.

They are, it depends on the situation, that's the whole point of the exotics. The fact that people think they need to be just "powerful" is stupid.
