Zelda U/NX promo image leaks from Amazon.com

I still don't think those giant blue sword stakes are "towers" that unlock areas on the map. I think those may be more story related and kept just as warp points.

I can always count on you

Everyone are yelling Ubisoft. What if those towers are mini dungeons, and by completing these dungeons, you can warp from tower to tower? I think this design is much better than simply climbing towers and opening the map.

I know this is pure speculation, but what if the world implements the Timeshift Stones from Skyward Sword, but on a larger scale. The world feels very empty and vast at first, and as you progress, those tower things fall down, and the areas around them are from the past, where technology existed?

They're bringing back the sailcloth too; it'd be a bummer if this game had 0 new ideas besides rock climbing and jumping off your horse

Why is everyone jizzing over that updated artwork? So somebody cut off 1/10th of the image. All we see now is that giant sword in the bottom right corner and the bridge over a foggy canyon or something.

Sure, it's nice to see more details, but it's not a lot.

The towers are the same wooden towers we saw in the Game Awards footage. The only difference is that this artwork shows them having blue beacons inside them.

Here's what they look like close up:

You can see the one south of Lake Hylia in this part of the Game Awards footage:

The blue light on the tower is very interesting . My guess is you activate something on the tower to make it glow blue , helping you navigate the massive landscapes, so from far away you can see where you've been and where you need to go.

I take it you missed what's new about it.

I'm not sure, the ones in the new artwork look a lot more triangular up top, like they have supporting struts extending diagonally up from the edges of the platform area. I agree that they're likely for the same purpose as those towers but they look like they've been completely redone in the 1.5 years since the VGA footage.

I didn't say they were exactly the same, but they look like they're still just wooden towers. I think the blue glow is similar to the beacons you could set in Skyward Sword.

These towers just act as permanent beacons that show you where you've already been. They probably denote important locations and can be used for fast travel. They are tall so that you can sail cloth to nearby areas.

I mentioned the new things in it. What did I miss?

That blue thing in the corner.

The expanded artwork shows Lake Hylia and the Great Bridge of Hylia, which allows us to pinpoint where everything in the artwork is on the world map: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=206652147&postcount=1077

Fuuuuuuck. That updated artwork is giving me the chills! Looks so majestic. Can't believe a single piece of artwork has me more excited than everything I have seen from E3 so far. I just hope the actual in-game footage looks as majestic as the artwork... If not, we can look forward to the NX port :)))) It's the version I'm going to get anyways. Will skip the Wii U version.

I completely forgot they were bringing back the sailcloth.

Wonder what the extent of its use will be.

Warp to beacon tower. Jump off of beacon tower.

Also climb other really high things and jump off of those.

It looks like it has pretty slow descent speed and fairly high horizontal speed. It's likely the fastest way to cover short distances and can likely be used to get over barriers.

Ah I gotcha. They also showed using temporary beacons in the VGA footage, so I think that's a good theory. I imagine there is some story purpose to them as well, potentially explaining the blow glow and possibly Link's blue glowing tech arrow as well.

One thing that strikes me when looking at this artwork is the sense of scale you get. Link is seemingly climbing a mountain that's WAY WAY higher than anything else we can see besides Death Mountain, but the VGA map doesn't show anything with a really high elevation around that point. The scale might be a bit wonky due to this being artwork, rather than a screenshot so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the game world looks a great deal different than this.

The temporary beacons in Zelda U are green and disappear from view on the overworld as soon as your place them. That differentiates them from these blue tower beacons.

As for the story purpose, beacons in Skyward Sword also appeared on bird statues, which acted as warp and save devices. The contrivance was that they were meant for prayers.

As for scale, this artwork certainly cheats, though I think the background was painted from a screenshot. The cliff with Link likely doesn't exist in the exact height and location the artwork shows. On the map I placed him on the highest peak southwest of Lake Hylia.

Honestly this artwork gives the smallest scale to the game yet. The original image of the game showed Hyrule Castle and Death Mountain much smaller in the distance, yet in this artwork Link is pretty much as far south as possible and Hyrule Castle and Death Mountain are much closer.

I know you're joking a bit but being able to timeshift at any location would be pretty big if those glowing arrow do that, even if the original idea can from SS. Plus the whole real open world is no small feat and 4 main dungeons and over 100 mini dungeons would be a major shifts as well if true.

I'll take old but better over new and who knows any day.

Okay here's an analysis of the full image compared to the map. Using the Great Bridge of Hylia across Lake Hylia, Zora's River, and Death Mountain as reference points.

Considering the perspective of Link compared to the Lake below... that map is fucking massive.

Wonder if the blue means it's an activated timeshift stone or something.

Anyone have a high quality pic of the one of link with a hood on the horse?

I would be willing to bet that Link, and more importantly the cliff he is climbing, doesn't exist. Just a creation for this piece of art, maybe even added to a pre existing piece of art. As others have pointed out the scale and perspective don't match up.

But I could be wrong. Maybe there is some crazy tall mountain in the south west we can actually go to.

This is amazing. You're like Gamexplain but on image form instead of videos haha. Holy shit this game is going to be maaaassive!

Something tells me this'll be great for showing off the game's grandeur. I can already see myself climbing high cliffs just to glide off with it.

Just had a thought- if we're working under my theory that this is a recreation of the Zelda 2 map (which OoT and TP are semi based on) then the spooky church towards the southwest of the map could be the graveyard area from Zelda 1... There are small objects which could very well be graves behind the church building from what I can see.

Just imagine running through those majestic fields with the top notch soundtrack this game will have..... Fuuuuuuuuuuuyyyyyyuuuuuuummmm sljkhdalk *shakes body like a living kiwi*

I don't see why them being blue has to do with timeshift stones. The beacons were blue in Skyward Sword, too, and had nothing to do with timeshifting.

I think the towers are permanently lit up once you get to them so that you know where you've already been. They're lit in this artwork because Link has already traveled to all of those locations headed south across Lake Hylia from Hyrule Castle after whatever evil business went on there to put it in the state this art depicts it being in, and is climbing the mountains there.

1 cool piece of art, and 23 pages.

Maybe Nintendo was onto something this E3 lol

The thirst for Zelda has always been real. I remember waaaaaaay back in the days of Nintendo's Nsider forums when they showed three new screenshots of TP and the Zelda board was swamped with topics about it. Bear in mind that was before it was even given a name.

if this game is about exploration, im pretty sure those towers are just to let you see high up and set course places. they seem to be like the one in the gameplay video from the game awards, and it was made of wood and unspecial

I'm just throwing ideas out there :T
What with the focus on the special arrow and ancient mechanized looking enemies that become active, it makes you wonder.
