Neo will release next year with comparable hardware. There's no way Sony is releasing it this year to be chewed down by Microsoft next year.

Yeah, thinking the same. It would be quite suicidal for Sony to launch this year, which is highly unlikely

I'm 200% ok with paying through the nose regularly for more power. But I want to cast off all ties to the past. I don't want to pay a ton and have old architecture and last gen laggards holding in. I hate this strategy from all parties, Sony AND Microsoft. I hate this!

I'm at the same place. Just give me a powerful, backwards compatibility enabled console. Basically remove the restriction on having a two-directional shared library between hardware iterations.

Developers and publishers will regulate that themselves by trying to cater to install bases and demand. There's no need to artificially restrict games from exclusively utilizing the power of the hardware, especially considering things like VR.

They'll eventually have to update the architecture at some point, right?

Based on the die they showed, that didn't look like Polaris 10. It seemed about the same size (slightly smaller) than Polaris 10.

It also seemed to be using traditional GDDR5 memory and not HBM. The 320GB/s also lines up very well with GDDR5x like I have been speculating, only at higher clock speeds.

They specifically said "SOC" so unless I'm missing something that seems really small

I seriously hope so. Please traditional console generation, you can iterative all you want, just give me exclusive for new generation.

Lol xbox scorpio..

Its already out. Its called a PC

Most xbox games are or are coming to PC

If you want an xbox just get the slim itd pretty sexy at least.

Yeah. Not needing to download drivers, not needing to plug in a keyboard/mouse, retail games and plethora of used retail games are all indicative of PC gaming.

Getting sick of people swooping into threads and telling people why they shouldn't like or want the product being discussed.

I'm guessing the cross gen support last for 2 years and then dies off.

MS is effectively starting a new gen.

Sony is either fucked, or they have the advantage of being the biggest and most publishers keep pouring out PS4k games with not much benefit for Scorpio. Or they went back to the drawing board with PS4K and will do adjustments. Hence their apparent no show for today.

I'm on board if the from PS4 to Neo is like what Scorpio seems to become. Its 4 years, i'm okay with a huge leap. Just not with the small gap the PS4K leaks suggest.

To me, announcing two consoles in the same conference is an absolute disaster. Specially when you can play everything on PC now. It's pretty much a useless device.

that`s what i was thinking watching this Briefing ! All i saw were games i will play on my PC :D

thanks Microsoft^^

next year when Scorpio launches i will just buy a by then "cheap" Nvidia 1080 ^^.

Also, this seems like enough time for Sony to respond with the Neo. I'm sure they won't want to lose the power war after all the good it's done for them with PS4.

I don't think this is possible if Sony intends to release NEO this year (if the rumours are true).
They would have to delay it, but I think its too late to make a decision to delay it right now (again, if the rumours are true).

they barely showed anything new today for xbone

thinking they maybe got some stuff in the oven for scorpio next year

But that's the thing.... all the coming games work on all the Xbox one/Scorpio systems... there are no more generations of walled off games or acessories... it's tucking glorious, been waiting years for this

I didn't watch the whole scorpio segment, and didn't read everything in the thread. Is the speculation that the memory bandwidth is the new ESRAM pool only, or is this machine unlikely to have any such memory configuration, and the memory bandwidth listed is for the whole of the available memory?

Console sounds great but all of this news means I'm probably going to abandon consoles in favor of PC-only and wait for the real must have exclusives and see where we're at.

For me, MS ensured I'll be building a gaming PC instead of ever buying another Xbox, honestly. I don't really care about MS or Sony's exclusives. If something amazing pops up on MS' end, I'll be able to play it on PC anyway.

Is this a 6 pin ATX connector?

Oh man. Does anybody actually think this is the mainboard? They just threw something together because they have very little right now and a stupid fake mainboard makes the product tangible, it was better than a bunch of faces. They couldn't even commit to target renders maybe partly because most of the conference was chock full of PC and prerendered CGI that people wouldn't even notice the difference.

This.

Project Scorpio is not just a mid-cycle, upgraded Xbox One. It's a next-generation console.

No. There are no more generations folks. Get that through. The model has changed for consoles, and this is it.

There's not much Sony has to do to match Neo's specs looking at baseline leaks, both consoles are using polaris, so it's just a matter of increasing clockrates at this point. I do think Sony will be able to outdo them if they launch at the same time in 2017.

It will be interesting If Sony is able to offer a 6TF console ahead of Microsoft in 2017 though, I find this is a long wait for a 6TF console from MS. GPU specs and the AMD timeline would be way ahead by then for both CPU's and GPU's

Jesus the amount of warriors trashing Neo is horrendous. How much you betting that Neo will try and match Scorpio and release earlier?

I wonder whether MS will do a total redesign of the casing or keep it similar so consumers don't get too confused?

Sony's not going to match specs guys. Jesus, dev kits are out. The scorpio console will be more than a half year later.

I think it was always GDDR5 for PS4 (Orbis). I don't recall ever seeing a rumor of DDR3.

It was originally 2GB of GDDR5 on the spec sheet. Then it was bumped to 4GB before their memory supplier pulled a miracle.

They don't need to do anything. Xbox Scorpio will be like the original Xbox, sure it's most powerful, but the greatest and majority of games were being developed for the lesser PS2, which in this case would be the PS4 Neo. Sony's got the majority of the market for a long time as long as they don't do any PS3-level screw ups.

You spelled "PS4 OG" wrong (and the Xbox OG will still be supported as well)

Wow that reveal! I feel like Sony is rapidly changing plans this very moment lol.

Still, no price, few tech specs, and 18 months away...

They are giving Sony quite a lead for competition.

I mean, both companies officially stated they weren't going to be at E3. I have a feeling the opposite is true for both now.

Very excited. Very.

And I really wish people stoking the CONSOLE WARZ fires would get out of this thread. Competition is good. It's healthy. I hope Sony has a great conference.

Two new powerful consoles coming out. Great time to be a gamer.

Also, the amount of people not understanding that there are millions of gamers like me that prefer console only is staggering.

They would have probably shown it at E3 if it was coming this year, I'm willing to bet they delayed it to early next year to update the specs, even if it's just upping the GPU clock speed and adjusting the case and cooling due to the higher heat output.

even if they release early next year, Scorpio is going to be released later and MS can just adjust the specs to be faster than Neo

Up until the Scorpio announcement, the Microsoft Conference was super boring. I am surprised that people are excited for a console that Microsoft hasn't even showed a game for. I guess the people playing games these days don't care about games. It's all about them teraflops, Anti Aliasing, resolution, and framerate. God I am bored already.

It's a smart move by Microsoft because the PS4 didn't sell because it had the best games. It sold because it was the most powerful hardware. Take a look at all the multiplatform threads.

Most people use these boxes to play multiplatform games anyway. Sony sat there cocky as ever thinking they had done something great, but the exclusive games never came. It's super easy to create more powerful hardware. Are people excited about the games on Scorpio? Because the Xbox One hardly has any exclusive games worth playing.

While I am not getting a Neo or Scorpio, it's going to be so funny to see gamers abandon Sony in the next round.

A 2TF difference between Neo and Scorpio will make me jump ship... depending on price.

the cpu difference is a even bigger factor, if scorpio has a zen, it makes ps4k specs look like a joke in comparison, were talking much better graphics at 60fps, vs ps4k lower end graphics at 30fps, there not even close.

Sony needs to match this or surpass this. I will buy only 1 powerful console for my 3rd party games. If this means its Scorpio than Sony lost one dedicated fan.

I will use my PS4 for exclusives and the rest will be MS

Both of these systems are going to be held back by the OG models, which need to work for every game. I think some people are expecting some amazing leap forward in games with these updated consoles, but you'll just get more stable framerates and a 4k mode for the most part.

I see a lot of people reacting to this announcement from the mindset of traditional console announcements and console cycles. What you have to realize is, as of this week, Sony and Microsoft are putting an end to that.

Consoles are finally falling in line with 99% of the other tech products out there (e.g. smartphones, TVs, laptops). These are not meant to be new generations, they're meant to be the first of many incremental improvements. These are for gamers who don't own not want a PC but still love to game at a high level. Those who don't care as much can simply get the lower end device (Xbox One S), same as those who might buy an iPhone SE over a 6S.

You pay for the performance you want just like every other device we have nowadays. For all we know, Scorpio & S games may ship on the same disc, with the game running on the specs of the hardware provided. That would be awesome for someone who has their main gameroom console and then a slim device in the bedroom. It's not rocket science, it's adaptation.

It'll take some adjusting after all the years we got out of last gen but it's definitely a needed evolution. I'm excited.

I don't think this is possible if Sony intends to release NEO this year (if the rumours are true).
They would have to delay it, but I think its too late to make a decision to delay it right now (again, if the rumours are true).

I don't see how that's an issue for Sony. Both them and Microsoft proved that last minute changes can happen.

Just look at how Epic changed the decision for Microsoft to install 512ram instead of the original 256 after they showed the improvement in Gears of War.

In gaming yes that's how we are conditioned, but people have been doing that with phones for about eight years now. I see it becoming common every three or so years for the next upgrade and no loss of old or new games to play no matter what device you are currently on

New gen without a single exclusive? All the power without compelling exclusive library?
This must be the most boring new gen of console history.

As long as it's shackled to the Xbox One (with shared software) it is just an mid-cycle, upgraded version of that console.

The Xbox is basically becoming a user friendly gaming Pc. And it's great.

We need to sticky this post.

Im loving it too! No way im ever building a PC, tweaking settings. Ever.

Choice is best - want a scaleable PC? Its there. Want an off the shelf console build? Done. Every 2-3 years drop $300 on the latest? Sure. Dont want to? Thats fine too.
