If you think that Islam has NOTHING to do with an ISIL supporter massacring homosexuals, your head is buried in the sand and covered in concrete.

What goes through a person's state of mind when ( at least the evidence is building up that) they are gay and then they decide to join isil?

How does that work?

He's been going for years? I wonder how old his Jack'd account is.

So there's a chance he actually did this out of some sexual guilt?

Reminds me of that guy in American Beauty who did something similar.

I don't want to sound stereotypical but he was also a bodybuilder, it's not really unheard of for them to be homosexual.

Gay guys have higher steroid use than straight ones, it's the same reason women have more eating disorders than men. (The male gaze is harsh and withering.)

This is even more sad to me if true. An unstable, suffering man who's only outlet became hatred and caused the suffering of so many more. The family doesn't seem rosy either when it comes to judging homosexuals

Bigoted religious text that he didn't cherry pick the bad stuff out of had an effect on him. Made him feel like he couldn't be himself, made himself see himself as evil because of what he read/was taught, sought out to do the righteous thing according to the text and do jihad against the thing he couldn't accept within himself.

Homophobia/self-hatred brought out by Islamic text and ease of access to weapons were the main components of why he did what he did. If you think that he was self hating gay and Islam had zero percent to do with it and just went on a rampage for no reason other than self hatred. To say, he joined ISIL as a goof - or a red herring. Get real dude.

hahaha what

ouch. Do women not check out and judge negatively other women more than men do? Might look for research into this later.

You sound dumb.

How? It's well known that there are a lot of gay guys that are bodybuilders, there are entire dating services set up exclusively for gay bodybuilding.

If i'm wrong I'll apologize but I thought it was pretty well known that there a lot of gay guys into bodybuilding?

I had a feeling from the beginning that the guy was probably closeted and internally conflicted about it. This would lend credence to that.

I can't say I'm surprised. People who take their hate to that kind of level are usually the ones afraid of being the very thing they hate, and that hate is further exacerbated by witnessing other people overcome that fear.

That's related to intra-group status. It has to do with standard of attractiveness/snap judgments and how the genders differ. If you set up an app like Grindr for lesbians, for example, they just straight up won't use it- they're not interested in rows and rows of headshots,.

Considering the FBI followed him undercover for 10 months, they probably already know whether he was closeted.
This is actually a good point ... if he was being investigated for so long they must have known he had visited this club several times over the last few years. What conclusion did they draw from that?

Yeah. It would easily explain why he got angry enough at seeing two men kissing to kill people. He might've been thinking, "They get to do that, and I don't. It's not fair." Same sort of attitude Elliot Rodger had when he slaughtered women at UCSB - he was angry that he wasn't getting any. Both sexually-repressed psychopaths.

You do know cherry picking is exactly what Isil do, right? Sometimes I can't tell the difference between Isil's version of islam and islamaphobics.

My own feelings are edging toward this being a homophobic attack - first and foremost. And why was he a homophobic? Probably like you said he kept reading stuff about how wrong being gay is. Closeted gay attacks his own community. Which is, I'll admit, heartbreakingly sad.

Not that this differs from ISil who also attack muslims, or just about anybody who crosses their path.

They're talking about this on MSNBC. Apparently this guy has been on 3 different gay-dating apps (according to a witness)

Honestly speaking, the use of the gay dating apps sounds more like he was scouting out a location. If he was closeted that's a whole new can of worms.

Scouting since 2007 would be quite long. Even since 2013 which I was hearing from another source would be very long.

3 different dating apps and dozens of visits to Pulse and getting very drunk there seems like going overboard in research. He could have just gotten on Yelp.

Nothing to indicate that.

This seems like a weird claim since he has been on a bunch of gay dating apps, spent years going to a gay nightclub, and his wife thinks he might have been gay.

I feel like that is actually a lot of indications that he might be gay.

so speculation wise:
this guy was in the closet but has a super ultra-conservative Father who is a religious nutter and lashed out on 100 people instead of facing his father

Wait.... the guy was gay?

Possibly, word coming in that someone claimed he'd been coming to the club in the attack for three years, plus word he'd been on gay dating websites.

If true, it's possible the motive might have been entirely based on his own conflicted feelings towards his sexuality.

Perhaps if he did call up 911 to pledge allegiance to Isis he simply did so to throw investigators off his real motive.

Didn't hear any of that. All I saw was that line of thought where he was a body-builder. Guess I'm wrong.

Nothing to indicate that.

Visiting a gay club over a dozen times over the span of 3 years, being active on 3 gay dating apps and having 1on1 sessions with transsexual camgirls doesn't indicate that he could have been gay?

That's a whole lot of research if he did it just to scout out locations, victims etc.
