Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 2016 Thread [*LIVE*] (No childish commentary allowed)

No towns is a big disappointment to me. The memorable NPCs from Majora's Mask and places like Windfall Island in Wind Waker are one of my favourite things about Zelda and one of things they do better than other games IMO.

Show floor looks nice.

They just confirmed in an interview that the game will have no towns. They clarified that it's a Hyrule in ruins and they took direct inspiration from the world of the NES LOZ. They did confirm that there will be a handful of stray NPCs throughout the world but no towns or villages in the traditional sense. Also, they claimed that link will not have any kind of partner and will be exploring alone for the entire game.

This is great news.

Well people wanted the game to be Super Exploration like NES Zelda...

...now they complain that there ain't towns...like NES Zelda.

I don't know why people are upset about this. Gimme that isolation <3

That's a shame.

tempted to get all three already lol. I've been fairly good about holding back from amiibo but Zelda might force my hand.

Interesting, I can cope with that, but I noticed or thought I noticed building construction and crafting in the opening clip... Anyone have a gif of that? If we've got any of that, and you can build your own house I'd be happy.

I'm not so much upset as seriously shocked, I was really expecting big guns.. I've been hoping that the NX will entice me in and be my first Nintendo console since the GameCube but this is just not good enough, the industry has moved waaaay way beyond this, it's frankly a little embarassing...

Buddy you and I are on the exact same page.

So, this started three hours ago right, would anybody care to give a quick recap of what has been showed during those three hours, and if there is something in particular i should check out?

I can dig no towns if they're really going for the whole almost post-apocalyptic ruined state of Hyrule.

Hopefully the NPCs will be memorable and provide more content.

I hope what they mean by "traditional" sense is that there are still collections of people scattered around, since villages could just as well be collections of houses or tents as opposed to locations you enter (like how you enter a temple or what have you as a major location). If not...bummer. I was hoping to see what sorts of races survived to this game's setting. D:

I don't mind no towns in terms of gameplay

...but what will drive the story then? Who is the Hero saving? What kind of motivation will there be?

A post-apocalyptic Hyrule where you are given the weighty task of restoring the land to glory - with no support or civilized safe havens to find shelter in. Sounds isolating and epic in the best way possible.

Looks quite good the amount of interaction with the world leaves me in high spirits waiting for it.

Gutsy, I like it. I wonder how this will play out story wise. I'm sort of hoping they take the dark souls approach to story telling.

It's not like the towns in previous Zelda games were anything worthwhile anyway. If they actually push the solitary exploration/survival angle, that's more than a good enough replacement. I'm just not convinced yet that they can do that.

Mmh yes they were ? All these places are also what made these game so special. Kakariko village, Clocktown, Hyrule's marketplace, Skyloft, Sunset island... Let's not rewrite history.

I don´t think Ruppees will be in the game. It doesnt make much sense in a universe where there are only few people left. I expect the economy to be resource and trade/craft based.

If there's no towns, I at LEAST hope there's ruins around (not just hyrule) that you can look at and maybe get hints of lore, like who used to live there

With the exception of Clock Town in Majora's Mask, in which interaction with said town is for all intents and purposes the entire game, towns in Zelda games are at best an amusing distraction and at worst a waste of time.

Down with towns!

Don't mind this at all. I really prefer this kind of desolate, lone adventure rather than a bunch of towns with NPCs bothering you with fetch quests.

This is my thoughts. Towns are nice, but ok after you are done exploring the town then what?

It's apparent they are going for the last hylian (guy and his dog alone solving the mysterious of the past... surprised people don't see parallels ) motif.
Basically post-apoc hyrule, which could be interesting if they do it right.

I like a sort of mix. It's one reason why Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game. The huge ocean where you feel completely alone in and then the feeling of sailing up on one of the few towns where everyone is active in their normal daily routine in gave me a ton of feels.

How disappointing. This really does look like open world circa 2008. Not impressive. I wonder if Nintendo knows how far behind they've fallen in certain types of game development.

Can't say personally I would be excited about no towns/villages. Would bring a lot of personality and likely provide some nice destinations IMO. Hard for me to see it as a plus.
