Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 2016 Thread [*LIVE*] (No childish commentary allowed)

So you're telling me, after the hate that was Sticker Star's disposable attack system....

This game doubled down on it? Now it's double consumable: card AND ink.

Battles seem to be better than SS.

Nintendo sure knows how to make mediocre graphics look incredible.

So you think that shading, lighting and stuff like real time shadows are free.

k

EDIT: ok saw the other post, now i see what you meant.

The new enemy card mechanic is cool.

Yep. Still Sticker Star 2. Sad :( I just don't see why you'd have battles at all if they only use resources and you gain nothing from them except coins which you essentially spend when you use cards in the first place. So dumb :(

Everyone who said "it's not gonna be like Sticker Star"

it's literally Sticker Star

all flash, no substance

the court will hear no defense

guilty

I mean, I feel the game looks way better than Sticker Star both aesthetically (obviously) and mechanically but it's still far away from what I'd hope from a successor to Paper Mario and TYD. No RPG mechanics, generic characters as far as the eye can see etc.

Oh boy, I can already see the flames since this is Sticker Star 2.0

I love Sticker Star so I am OK with that but I empathize with people that wanted a Mario RPG with this visuals.

And it seems that battle gives you money and paint.

Sticker star was awesome and this one looks awesome as well, don't listen to the haters.

A blue Toad. See, it isn't all the same Toads!

Seriously though, game looks awesome. I always found leveling to be shit in Paper Mario and TTYD anyway, so glad it is gone.

Speaking as someone with no history with the Paper Mario games, what's the reason for the backlash for this? Not trying to sound incendiary either, just curious.

The first three games, while not perfect, had great charm, amazing characters and writing, were funny, surprisingly dark, and had an addictive battle system. Sticker Star and this completely removed almost all of that and made all the combat look and feel tedious and lack rewards.

Basically they took a series beloved for reasons ABC and D and removed all of them.

On another note, this new one LOOKS gorgeous. I'd love it if it winds up actually being good. Looks like they're trying to justify battles with those enemy cards...

The main problem are a reduction of RPG elements, original characters, and overall story compared to the first two games. That's the major issue some people have.

What you've listed are the biggest issues that I have with Sticker Star & this one, and the coverage hasn't changed my opinion on Colour Splash. And I actually wanted to give Colour Splash a chance.

I don't know what anyone's talking about when it comes to characters. I, for one, am invested in Blue Toad's hardships, struggles, and character development.

I imagine this game was made in response to Sticker Star's sales and not its feedback.

What does that even mean in the context of the franchise being 4 games old at that point (as in wouldn't a previous game be in response to sales + critical acclaim),
this not even being the best selling Paper Mario, and this being a follow up on the Wii U and not the 3DS?

I mean, you're probably right but that just makes them seem a bit... misguided.
