Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 2016 Thread [*LIVE*] (No childish commentary allowed)

Honestly the card system really never bothered me all that much in Sticker Star, I just hated having to use specific ones in order to beat bosses. Hopefully they've got rid of that.

This looks fun, and absolutely gorgeous. Definite buy from me.

I feel like I need to get myself a membership card to join the small club of people who liked Sticker.

I imagine this game was made in response to Sticker Star's sales and not its feedback.

Why do sales always get brought up? It's too simplisitic of an argument.

Super Paper Mario did the most by far.

The next game proceded to be the opposite of Super Mario Mario.

Going by sales, Sticker Star should've been a dissertation of dialogue with platforming, no battle transition, and 50 original chracters

it's not sales. It's them doing whatever they want

Again, compare to install base. Wii games sold a lot because wii install base was massive

Haven't gotten to watch the stream yet, is there more of a focus on story than in Sticker Star?

Mm, and, any sense of how long/big the game is?

Screw the haters, looks like great fun.

Look I get the love to TtyD, I too loved it, but I don't want another one like that. I didn't like Super Paper Mario too much.

But I like this, so maybe I will like Sticker Star, and now I am interested in Paper Jam too.

So... why fight battles? That can waste paint...

I think you may be able to level up your max paint?
The color bar as a max value showed in numbers. It is pretty obvious that the value can change, improving by playing. They also added strategy to card battles with color level and actual better fitting cards depending on the enemies and in doing so they added value to the environmental exploration that gives you the cards and the colors refills

Music and graphics are great, now I just hope for a bare minimum story (and amiibo)

What does that even mean in the context of the franchise being 4 games old at that point (as in wouldn't a previous game be in response to sales + critical acclaim),
this not even being the best selling Paper Mario, and this being a follow up on the Wii U and not the 3DS?

I mean, you're probably right but that just makes them seem a bit... misguided.
It's not like Nintendo's recent output has been defined by business acumen.

Did you have to time jumps and hammer attacks in Sticker Star?

It literally works the same as every other turn-based Paper Mario as far as combat is concerned. All that changed was relying on an ever-changing line-up of one-time use stickers (and cards here) to perform those actions.

This honestly doesn't look that bad. It's disappointing that there's no exp and it's just a bunch of toads instead of actual characters but maybe it will be decent?

I never played Sticker Star, what was so atrocious about it? Seems like the series has always veered on the casual side of things. I love TTYD, but thought the Wii one was boring as shit. Color Splash looks better than that at the very least.

Searching for Toads? This is exactly like Paper Jam.

Why... just why?
Gotta figure out something to do with all those Toads, without any fun characters to leverage.

Searching for Toads was the first thing you do in Sticker Star as well, right?

After seeing the Toad focus in Mario Party, I guess Nintendo is really just pushing Toad as a big recognizable character alongside Mario and Luigi.

Can you guys find all the toads?

Fucking Toads. Sent them all to an island and nuke it.

The paint + card system could be so cool if it was about paint management, not CARD collection. There should be a small hand of cards, not a deck.

Also there's an extra 4th bar that is filling up from after-battle collectables.

The game looks really good and I don't mind the battle system. It's not great, but I don't mind it. I'd play it. I just don't see the reasoning behind having every other character be a Toad. If the NPCs had a bit more charm, I'd be all in for it.

My hopes are that it's just this area, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think this game will score a good 7/10 at most places and will have the biggest cons of not being original enough and too much rehashing of previous entries.

So do people not find every NPC looking exactly the same (except sometimes a different colour) incredibly bland and boring? And especially since this is the third RPG in a row of this...I know I'm caught up on this but the platformers like Mario Galaxy had different races of creatures you interact with. It's such a small thing but I think it really sucks the life out of the world when everyone looks the same.

This is Paper Mario we are talking about. The first 3 games have been masterpieces, not just decent. They had a amazing story, great original characters, humor, charme, great RPG gameplay and a lot more.

Whats the point in releasing a decent game, when we could get something MUCH, much better?
