You are in charge of designing the NX and launching it

What would it be? When would you announce it? What games would be announced with it? When would it release?

Try to be a little realistic, you can't say it would have a GTX 1080 and a Corei7 for 99$.

I would try to make it as dope as possible tbh

I would announce it, show off some specs, but not actually show the system.

Apparently this strategy works out well.

I said it in the other thread but NX should be a platform. Nintendo will make games for it. The platform will run on various hardware and be completely scalable. It can run on a handheld or a box. Whatever you want. One library. It will also house their past catalogue. Just all nintendo games. Which is their core competency. No other bullshit getting in the way. Just every nintendo game on one platform that you can play wherever you like.

Common sense really. I do think this is what they're planning, maybe not exactly but along this line.

I am?! Fuck, uh guys tighten up those graphics on level 3...

Is it unrealistic to ask for a 470 powered SoC with 8 gigs for DDR4? Most likely it'll be a super charged PowerPC setup with a three year old AMD chip.

Sure.

Handheld, $199, lower clocked Tegra X1, Single 6" 1080P panel that slides above controls (PSP Go style)

Console, $99-$149, higher clocked X1 that has WiFi AP tech similar to WiiU, can act as a hub to up to 4 handhelds or smartphones (Think board games, card games, etc) but plays the same games as handheld otherwise, breakaway controller that can act as wiimote or traditional controller, and is bluetooth/universal

Software as a Service - Netflix-like service offering VC games from Nintendo and partners (Sega) available on all platforms including mobile

NFC figures that can actually store and transmit data, Amiibo v2 if you will

Best specs $399 can get (presumably around PS4 Neo power)

Launch with new IP, Zelda BotW, some Major third party games like ME: Andromeda (if it's out by NX launch).

MyNintendo missions serving as an achievement system.

Snappy OS that makes it easy to send and receive invites and messages

I'd delay it a couple years, get everyone working on two Metroid titles (one Prime and one classic), give it the specs of a high end PC at release and sell it for with those two titles for $1000.

I'd bankrupt the company but at least I'd have two new Metroid titles.

I'd unveil it in September. I'd show off the NX version of Zelda, a new 3D Mario game, a new Metroid game, an F-Zero title, a new Animal Crossing, a sequel to Splatoon, a couple new IP, and Monster Hunter 5. Some of these would be full reveals, others would be in the form of quick teasers to get potential purchasers excited for the first year or two of the system's software library.

The console would be at the power level of the PlayStation 4. It would launch next March for $250.

Scalability via the SCDs would be of paramount importance in the design and messaging toward the hardcore gamer.

Take a PS4, make it 50 percent faster. Solve 3rd party issue by actively acquiring a major 3rd party like sega.

Have huge ad campaign, maybe a billion to help develop my family image more but also develop a mature/ adult label and market it heavily.

Invest heavily in sports, maybe release a NFL2k, make it compatible with PC.

Have a dedicated studio other than retro forva mature 3rd person shooter and first person shooter.

And haveva team working on some kind of mature sci-fi game.

Give fans what they want as well, a console pokemon, Shiek game for instance.

Make sure consoles and handheld are forward compatible and rebuild our ecosystem.
May take a generation but itd work.

I'd make sure it launches with two sku's. One with a pack in game, either Zelda or a 3D Mario, and a basic unit for $50 less.

Ideally the price needs to undercut the other consoles significantly. $250 or below.

I think the most important thing is post launch lineup. Basically, there should be compelling content being released throughout the console's first year. All killer, no filler. That means that means that first party is laser focused on hitting deadlines.

The only real challenge here is striking deals with third parties to release either multiplats or co-funded/developed games and marketing deals.

My version of the NX follows the same timeline I think Nintendo has now. It gets revealed in the Fall and released in the Spring. Where things get interesting is the console itself.

My version of NX is a single-screen handheld with as much power as an Xbox One. It uses cartridges for games so the entire DS/3DS catalogue is playable from day one.

For controls, my NX is very similar to the Vita. A large HD touch screen in the center of the console with 4 triggers and dual analog sticks.

There is no console component to my NX, but it supports gamepad-like streaming to your TV. You can either download the NX app on your PS4, Xbox One, Apple TV/Roku/etc, or buy Nintendo's own box that connects to your TV.

It retails for $299 and launches with Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Bring it out at 199.99 and focus on first party games. 3 major games first party games at launch. With another 3 coming out in the next 12 months. Attempt to bring 3rd party in but thats a bit of a lost cause.

Console power comparable to Neo
Bundled controller is like a pro controller (some emphasis on gyro capability is appropriate)
Standalone handheld that can also serve as gamepad/tablet peripheral (sold separately), plus remote play (like Sony)

Architecture similar to competitors to attract multiplat support

A diverse launch line-up with a good mix of 1st- and 3rd-party exclusives, plus multiplats

Basically I'd focus on providing an attractive, inexpensive development platform while attempting to build synergy between handheld and console

EDIT
& a Metroid game. I'd make that happen. People like exploring and shooting shit.... I've always felt Metroid has greater sales potential than its sales history would indicate

  • Console version launches in March 2017 - $249
  • Handheld version launches in March 2018 - $179
  • Online play remains free.

They play the same games across NintendOS. Saves can be tranferred via a limited amount of cloud space in your Nintendo Account.

  • Zelda at launch.
  • Next Metroid within 6 months.
  • 3D Mario platformer within a year.

This somewhat replicates the Wii schedule.

  • A brand-new AA IP at launch aimed at conventional gaming audiences. Another brand-new AAA IP within a year.
  • At least one revival IP within 3 months.
  • C and B tier IPs fill out the year, including revival of a racing franchise (Wave Race, F-Zero) with rich online multiplayer and corresponding amiibo to refresh the brand.
  • Advance Wars Versus Dinosaurs launches alongside the handheld NX.
  • Mario Kart 9 must make year two of the console.
  • Rich indie development support and outsourced games (a la Bayonetta 2)

Program to transfer any purchased VC games on Wii U or 3DS to NX free of charge.

Ports include:

  • Splatoon NX at launch with new maps and weapons to give a lasting online multiplayer experience that can hold over any droughts.
  • Mario Maker NX within 3 months.
  • Smash 4 Complete NX within 6 months.

Unified account system and store for Handheld and Console.

Handheld, single touch screen, retail price of $199. Console retail price of $299, standard controller with gyro. Every handheld game plays on console, but not all console games required to play on handheld. Handheld can operate as a controller for console and can be use for off tv play.

So you buy one game and can play it on either system. No extra fees or hidden costs.

- NX is a platform that isn't tied to hardware
- The cartridge inside a game box works on any NX family device
- Transfer save files seamlessly between NX family systems
- Handheld is the logical successor to 3DS (clamshell, two screens...)
- Standard controller but with a small screen to achieve parity with handheld
- Keep hardware price down, no losses on hardware unit sales
- Expand social features (Miiverse, Miitomo, Mario Kart TV...)
- It's about sharing the gaming experience with others local and online
- Virtual Console subscription service

The NX isn't a device but a service whereby Nintendo games can be played on other devices.

Otherwise, I'm out. Building the box isn't Nintendo's problem - it's about getting developers on board and harboring third party relationships, which goes beyond me.

If I'm honest with myself, I also want this. But I know it's not going to happen. It's too complicated, will it be all digital? Which devices will play it? Is it *gulp* a streaming services?

I kinda hope there's Wii U BC, they could just pull a Vita TV and only allow Wii U games that are playable without the pad. But hey if your lucky enough to own one, then more power to you because ti works with NX!

My idea:
NX would be a storefront not a hardware.

Initially released for PC, with the possibility of cutting deals with Sony, MS, Apple, Google, etc, to make the store availiable for other devices (Nintendo could leverage their weight to reduce the percentage they'd have to give up or get a cut of the third party games sold within their storefront).

The end goal would be to eventually have as many Nintendo games availiable for it as possible. Automatic crossbuy for all games, if you bought it and your device has it you can play it.

Monthly subscription to have access to their entire catalog from past generations.

New Zelda would be availiable on day one. Mario, Slatoon, Mario Kart, Smash, etc would be released for it as well.

New Metroid, Pokemon Magenta\Cyan (re-imagined Pokemon franchise with AAA budget), Fire Emblem 3DS Collection (Remasters) announced during the NX reveal.

All digital, but you can still buy physical releases and special editions (you get a code with it, that ties it to your account, like on PC).

Nintendo branded line of machines could still be a possibility, but it would essentially be their version of SteamOs.

Nintendo Home

Would be a 4k capable gaming machine.
standard controller

Looks - like a small pc tower mixed with GameCube design. Has gamecube controller slots built in for smash.

- all previous controllers are compatible

- can be upgraded

New OS that is a game itself. ie Mitomo. All your achievements, trophies, games etc are displayed in a virtual enviroment.etc. Users can buy items to personalize there environment or buy them using points. Can switch to classic style OS if preferred.

Hook - All games from from NES - SNES - 64 era are available to play once you buy the console.

All gc, wii, WiiU and NX games can be bought and added to your account.

launch games

Zelda Breath of the wild

Donkey kong country NX - 3d platformer like uncharted. DK can now climb, swing on vines, has grenades as well as banana's to defeat enemies. All the weapons from dk 64 as well. Has a multiplayer mode similar dk64 that can be played online.

Mario Kart 8 Ultra edition - comes with all the dlc and new battle mode.

3 pieces of hardware based on mobile parts, like that Tegra chip rumor from a few months back. All cartridge based single library. The new hardware would be called The NEX - Nintendo entertainment experience ( Yes I'm stealing this from that lame Reddit Rumor)

NEX -Console - $199.99 - Small console like the size of a fire tv. Contains a 240GB SSD. Games look the best on this. Slightly under Xbone levels of power. Looks simliar to a mini old school NES with black and dark grey color scheme.

NEX GO- Handheld - $174.99 - Single touch screen with PSP GO style slide screen. When closed it can work like a smart phone/tablet and play mobile games and use Nintendo Apps. Has Wireless charging. Games run at 720p.

NEX Mini - Stick- $99 - The cheapest but has lower specs. All digital, so no cart slot. Only has a slot for micro sd and micro usb for power. Can mirror the handheld to display or remote play a console to another room.

Launch line up:
Zelda NX
Pikman 4
Smash 4 Ultimate
New Retro IP
Xenoblade X - remaster
Splatoon -remaster
New Luigis mansion.
Pokemon Sun/ Moon NEX Version

Use all that cash saved up to buy EA.
then launch with FIFA, Madden, UFC and Battlefield as Nintendo exclusives.

i don't really care, I'm sure whatever they have planned will be fine

It would be a sphere and games would be on flash drive cartridges.

Also it'll be a pain to hold still because it'll roll around all over the place.

6 Zen cores at 2.8GHz
2048 Polaris GPU cores at 850MHz (32 Compute Units) - 3481 Teraflops
12 GB of GDDR5 memory (8GB dedicated to games)

1TB Hard Drive model - $300

Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Super Smash Bros. NX (New game with all the Wii U and 3DS chars and more)

This poster knows what I want.

A jaguar 1.8 Ghz 8 core
8 gb gddr5
A VGA model similar to the 970 OC Mini
A game console with streaming and recording built in, also Facebook and friends that actually works (not stupid friend codes)

Console 299U$
399U$ bundle with 2 controllers and Zelda

A deeeeeep network system that allow players to buy digital mídia without losing their value or locking behind consoles

And for Nintendo. A console that allow couch coop easy and reward other players to play side by side. There are always joy to play Nintendo games side by side with a friend. Capitalize that shit, it's fun and you know it Nintendo.

My NX would be a bit faster than a standard PS4. (=keeps price low).
Nx controller is like a pro controller but with a little twist.
You can put your smartphone into it, or use it as a standalone 2nd screen!
So you can have a WiiU gamepad experience, if you want.
Most first party games will be released with a free companion app.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will be bundled with a grass-cutting minigame, so you can earn additional rupees and crafting material.

Price: 399$

Edit:
299$ for selected neogaf members.
Release: March 13, 2017.
