Mighty No. 9 review thread

As someone who's never played a Mega Man game, nor really cared to see a spiritual successor, i always thought this game looked bad. Its a shame that the game play didnt come together like people had hoped for. A friend of mine kickstarted this like what felt like 4 years ago lol. Good lord.

I gave Inafune $383.

If it makes you feel any better, I pledged $612 USD (which was something close to $700 CDN at the time, IIRC).

Infinite tears.

Your pledge has been making rounds on my Twitter feed Chrono ;__; fecking Inafune taking advantage of Mega Man fans' nostalgia

It's really sad how this game is most likely going to permanently damage Kickstarter's image. Because of MN9 ending up as a mediocre turd, now there's a bunch of people out there saying "THIS WILL BE THE LAST KICKSTARTER I BACK" and "NEVER TRUST KICKSTARTER PROJECTS EVER", which I think is a shame because games like Bloodstained and Yooka-Laylee are looking pretty great.

It just all depends on who you're backing.

The game never really looked good to me so not that surprising it is not reviewing well. It's too bad because I know lots of people wanted a good mega man type game again.

I've made two awful choices when it came to Kickstarter, this one hits harder. I'm sure there will be many projects and success stories born out of crowdfunding, but experiences like this put me off it all together. Thanks, Inafune.

It's pretty clear this game had a lot more problems than just the number of platforms it had to hit on release, so I don't think people should solely blame that.

It just hit me. Reviewers have received codes for the game before backers.

Now, I have lost all faith in humanity *cries in the corner* .... fuck prom nights!

Press got really mad when Broken Age backers got keys for part 1 before their embargo dropped, so that's a smart decision for PR purposes.

Money doesn't buy quality. There's been games that cost more that review just as badly if not worse. Annoying seeing the price tag constantly thrown around.

Not only that, but that 4 Million dollars isn't just for one version of the game but apparently 8 different platforms.

Development for that many platforms clearly spread resources too thin. It seems there was just not enough focus to target a main platform and then worry about secondary platforms after the fact. This clearly wasn't the case with this game.

There were so many successes so far, I doubt this will happen.

Read this a number of times now, could someone explain this to me? :/
Sorry for OT.
Read the jimquisition quote in the OP

Oh shit, this is looking like a Molyneux moment. Whether deserved or not, I kind of feel bad for Inafune... but then again, four million dollars is a lot of kickstarter money.

This is a huge bummer. I was hoping this would have been the Mega Man resurrection we were all hoping for. I hope this isn't a sign of the quality we should come to expect out of ReCore.

Better reviews than I thought. Inafune is a fucking hack.

You shouldn't feel a single thread of sympathy for Inafune. He took the money and mismanaged a project and this is what we got.

Why were the press mad about this exactly?

Because some people who backed Broken Age were minor press/youtube streamers (who never signed an embargo) and were reviewing/streaming it before the embargo was up.

Double Fine ended up dropping the embargo for everyone but it was a big cluster.

Doesn't seems like. There is a lot of complaints at the KickStarter page.

I didn't receive mine either.

After the recent survey ended it said they would email when the codes were sent out. As far as I'm aware they haven't sent an email regarding that.

And what's wrong with that?

The lesson from this shouldn't have been "it's ok to give copies of the game to the press before giving the backers what they payed for."

There's a lesson to be learned here.

Don't throw money at someone until they deliver.

this seems like a case of someone cashing in on their reputation. the few games i've kickstarted have turned out pretty good. and the latest one, Strafe, seems to be headed in a good direction.

But would it have been because they expected it to turn out bad? I would expect Capcom would "stop" him more because they suspected people didn't want another Mega Man.
Who knows, the point is he apparently didn't have another great Mega Man in him. :(

I hate that it turned out this way because I despise what Capcom and Konami have become.

Has to be the most gut-wrenchingly disappoint KS in history. I'd be more depressed if the writing hadn't been on the wall for some time now. At least 20xx exists, I guess. *sob*
