Titanfall 2: How Titans work

Update: How Pilots Work: https://youtu.be/pDx60vj6yI0

A really good video. I am on the fence with the changes to be honest.

I personally loved Rodeo, even if most of the time the enemy Titan would use their smoke to kick you off.

That or the classic crouch and look at the floor technique.

Summary:

Titans have some set load outs and skins/perks.

You can still choose certain elements.

Rodeo is diffirent. You land, remove battery, then auto kicked off.

Option to jump back on, drop a nade in, then kicked off again. Rinse and repeat.

Skeptical on the rodeo changes, everything else sounds good.

Also cool to see Jaxendale back in action, he did a great job of covering the launch of the first Titanfall.

I think 78 seconds until the promised content actually starts is a new record.

It's still a little sad this game is going to get wrecked against CoD and Battlefield :-3

Looks like they have cool new ideas.

Titanfall 2 being non exclusive will help bluster its sales and longevity. PC all the way though.

Wrecked against CoD?

What

Regardless of all the blustering, COD is still going to sell over 10 million easy. What he says is not wrong.

Now atleast Titanfall 2 has my sale with a campaign mode and a PS4 version

Damn this game is looking so good. I was really critical about the first game and they have hit every single point on my shit list. Good on them, hope it equates to sales. Only issue I have is the naming should have called it Titanfall:[something]. Titanfall 2 when it never made it to PS messing with my OCD.

titans are heroes ala dota / overwatch now?

Pretty much. As someone crazy excited for this sequel, this has really taken the wind out of my sails. It went from a must buy to a wait and see. I don't like the idea. I expected more custom variation in Titans.

All they had to do was make minor improvements to what they already had and pack on more content.

Not liking the sound of the Rodeo change, the Titan Classes change or the more teamwork talk.

I think i'll wait for a review before i buy, especially if it doesn't ship with FD (horde mode). Loved the 1st one but the combat was a delicate balance of fun that i can see this breaking.

Meh at the rodeo changes but honestly it probably is a good thing since I only ever used electric smoke or cluster rockets to get them off and never really used any other perk. The new titans are really exciting but the lack of customization also makes me meh. I actually liked changing the weapon up often, but with additional titans that kind of makes up for it I spose.

I'll miss rodeoing.

If they really wanted to encourage teamwork the specialized Titans (lack of electric smoke spam) would have meant having to watch eachother's Titans.

We moba now.

Titanfall was always a lovechild of COD and MOBA, with A.I. acting as minions. It seems like MOBA's popularity has really made them rethink Titan personalities and abiltiies (or it was always planned).

Having never played TitanFall before, why would they change how rodeo worked? Based on just the video and the nature of the changes, it sounds like it was too easy to take down a Titan before?

It's supposedly to encourage teamwork more, which is great for those who have the benefit of going in with a pre-made team that can coordinate with each other, and very not great for those who play online by themselves.

It wasn't that easy. Titans had defence mechanisms to rodeo like smoke to kill the pilot doing the rodeo. Also, it requires you to have your teammate watch your back. However, people like it because the thrill in a titan kill by rodeo is awesome!

Yeah I don't know if I like the new rodeo stuff and I loved the old way. My favorite was to just eject from a weak Titan and take the enemy pilot in the air with me and kill him.

Don't think I'll like the new rodeo mechanics, seems oversimplified and I didn't mind how rodeo worked in the original.

On a side note, please don't tell me embark animations are in 3rd person now, 1st person embarking was one of the coolest parts of the first game.

I didn't play with the first one as I did not believe the hype but this sequel is looking really good.

Is there a game mode with Titans only and no on foot combat? As a massive mecha fan, i'll prefer piloting a titan all the time

Last Titan Standing isn't strictly titan only, but it's a round based mode where you start every round in a titan and the objective is to have the last titan standing. When your titan blows up, you will be forced to go on foot. It's definitely the mode with the most time spent in mechs, and you'll never technically have to leave the mech if you're good enough. Not sure if it's returning in 2.

I hope so, it was my favorite mode by far. This mode had the most teamwork in it if you ask me.

Should be interesting changes. Though I would've like more customization with Titans instead of the loadout/hero approach.

The game should be great regardless.

I'm sure there will be a pilot "hero" that can still rodeo titans. He'll probably be a cowboy from Texas or something else original like that. If I'm understanding correctly only one pilot "hero" has the grappling hook.

Hum... not really sold on the rodeo changes. Sure, rodeo in the original forced smoke into your loadout more often than not, but it sounds kinda silly now... Definitely not a fan of the restrictions being placed on customization.

I liked shooting the titan core better but rodeo was really bad cause every player worth their titan just smoked you off.

Actually, it was just the smoke that ruined rodeoing. I actually hate piloting a titan and all I wanted to do was rodeo.

Is the multiplayer still gonna have bots running around?

I hope so, and I hope you understand their purpose. Maybe they can make the bots highlighted.

Those bots are why there are ZERO campers in Titanfall, or at least it being a bad idea. It encourages players into the battlefield and account for a 1/3 of the score.

This and the LMG destroyed it. LMG would destroy a titan faster then smoke could kill a pilot. At least at launch.

I do and I haven't played the first game. I'm just curious and only weirded out by it in the first one cause the maps are big enough to have more players but I suppose you do need the space for big robots.

The devs playtested higher playercounts, but found the right balance of fun at 6v6.

Lots of armchair game designing going on in here. I'd suggest playing before judging a something as insignificant as a number in a vacuum.

Vince is right - we tried a huge amount of playercounts (all the way down to 1v1 and up quite high) and designed the maps, gameplay mechanics, and entire experience around which played best. If anyone wants to chase the numbers game, perhaps we're not the experience they're after? I dunno.

And FYI, for amount of stuff happening at once in a map you'll be hard pressed to find a game that keeps the action higher. I literally have to stop playing every few rounds because my heart just can't take it some times. Remember, you can get out of your Titan and let it roam on AI mode - meaning there can be 12 Pilots wallrunning around, 12 Titans stomping below, and dozens of AI doing their thing.

Oh, and I keep seeing people thinking we've got "bots" when we talk about AI. Thats not how they are. The AI in Titanfall are not replacements for human players. Our playercount is not 6v6 because of AI - AI play their own role in the game and are a different class of character in the game.

Can't wait! Only a couple months until speculative threads like this are gone and people are actually talking about their experiences with the game. Its truly fun stuff, and I hope everyone at least gives it a try.

I guess I'll miss the old rodeos too, we'll see how it works out. I liked killing titans single handed, but I can also see how a different balance can be necessary, it felt like a necessity to have the smoke perk on your titan and as a consequence there was less variation.
I'm still confident with Respawn's skill in balancing gameplays and making them fun, after the first titanfall.

The bots aren't there to emulate players, they're cannon fodders/player detectors that add their own dynamic to the gameplay. In Titanfall lore, pilots (players) are some kind of superhuman soldiers, and you can jear the grunts being in awe of what they accomplish during the game.

I'm indifferent on the rodeo changes still. Rodeo in the first was a bit akward and stopped the action in it's tracks. The gas cloud was kinda nice, but it was too easy for pilots to explore when the pilot climbed out only to be met with a C4 from above as the riding pilot is jumping off. I did that shit a lot.

Has anyone bright up the changes with the boost? No boost for the heavy Titan, 1 for the Middle weight and two for the light. All down one boost from the original. How will a heavy get away from a nuclear explosion?

Its primarily me not use to small player count like this in FPS. Spoiled by Counter Strike and TF2 servers but getting back into the hang of it with Overwatch.
