I'm probably going to take a trip to England this year.
I'm ashamed to admit I looked at ticket prices.
You were happy watching southern Europe getting crushed in the economic doldrums at your gain then?
When I say your gain, I mean an austerity government.
They don't? Is that likely?Dude the government doesn't have to follow through with the result of the referendum.
This is why direct democracy is a bad idea.
your avatar......is moving
Time to buy into UK markets while they're taking a beating.
I have family in Europe outside of GB, of course I wasn't happy about that.
Yup, good money to be made once the markets stabilise due to bankers no longer being able to scare their investors that the sky's falling in as it actually isn't.

No idea. Point is there is a check.
OP, it was even worse

If that check isn't used then it's an ineffective one.
What's the process? In the US, the House GOP pass numerous disasterous bills that never see this sort of attention because we know the Senate or President would overturn it. Why is there not a similar expectation in the UK?It might. Lets see.
Maybe with a 20 year plan. The hits will keep coming for the foreseeable future. Trade agreements, loss of imports, industry leaving, exports uncertainty. Maybe in the far future they will rebound but the low will be the normal.

Why?!The Prime Minister can overturn this. All referendums in the UK are constitutionally consultative, they have no legally binding power. Only the Queen-in-Parliament is sovereign. He's just not going to overturn it.
Why?!
The fact that he could be replaced so easily through such a leadership contest tells me it's a very weak check. There's no point. His own party are in favour of this. If he refused to do this, there would be a leadership contest, he would lose, he would be replaced by Boris Johnson, who is in favour, and it would still happen, just delayed by however long the above takes (not more than a few weeks).
There are checks and balances; this just passed all of them. That's democracy.

Time for me to book a vacation to London.
Hasn't the Canadian dollar lost more? This is getting kind of silly with the hyperbole.

I live in the US and haven't been following all this. When people who voted to leave see this are they thinking "Holy shit, what have we done"?
Or is this all according to some plan and they assume it will bounce right back? Pretty insane how quickly the country got feedback on the decision.
