Nah. Finest Hours and Alice Through the Looking Glass already broke the combo twice. Pete's Dragon's probably gonna do it again later this year.
I'm really worried about Pete's Dragon but here's hoping if it's shit people go watch the objectively better live action from the 70's.

And it will most likely be exactly the same story like every fucking time excluding Digital Fortress, just with a new setting, different names and a different theme for the riddles.

Spoiler: The bad guy is most likely the character who acts like he is a friend to Langdon and his female protage.

When you go to the grocery store to buy "HEMSWORTHS" they come in a bag instead of a box.

Remember begging your mom or dad for Fruit Loops and getting Fruity Os instead because "They taste the same and are 70 cents cheaper"? Thats the reaction I imagine directors having when they are told they are working with Liam Hemsworth instead of someone with talent or at least actual fame.

The first one was so bad at this - they gave away the villain in the first trailer. Horrible, soulless films. Nothing like MAH BOY National
Treasure.

National Treasure is my kinda film.

Stupid as shit
Makes no sense
Doesn't care one iota
STEAL THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
PUT IT IN THE OVEN

Man, he went to shit so much. Loved his first four books but then I realized that its all the time the same.would love to see a adaption of Digital Fortress, or from that book where they discover aliens. No idea whats the english title was.

National Treasure has Nicolas Cage in it, so it cant be better then anything released this year. The Law of Cage.

Fantastic debut for The Shallows!

Great opening for NYSM2 in China! Should finish in the low $80M there.

ID4 should barely reach $400M WW when all is said and done. Not an outright flop, but a performance a la Terminator Genysis - not that great.

I have to admit that ID2 didn't shit the bed anywhere near as bad as I thought it would. Though that doesn't mean that it didn't shit the bed entirely. When the news of the lack of critic screenings broke i thought this was going to do Battleship numbers for sure.

I mean, it's still an awful, awful film, but that opening could have been so much worse.

The only thing more baffling than ID2's plot
(let's hold off investigating a crashed alien ship until someone has a party on EARTH?!?!?!?!?)
is the fact that Universal just bought a script package, called Moonfall, which Emmerich will direct from the writers of ID2. In what world does this make sense? Another super expensive sci-fi film set in outer space right after his last opened waaaaay below expectations?!

Oh Universal.

Niggas still checkin for Da Vinci Code movies in 2016??? Didnt the last one make like half what the first one made?

I hate Disney Germany so much. They pulled this shit with Inside Out last year with the movie coming out in October and now Finding Dory is late September. The fuck is this. I'm so mad.

The Shallows is another Sony succes. It's so weird how sony almost always makes a lot of money with low budget movies but tanks with (almost) all of their big budget efforts.

Which one of you BO regulars thought ID4 would be this year's Jurassic World? I know there was at least a couple who thought that. I remember reading that prediction in one of the trailer threads.

I just got out of an IMAX showing. My co-worker actually paid for my ticket since his bro bailed on him last minute. It's a bad movie. It was every bit as lame as i thought it would be. And I'm supposed to be target demo for ID4 since the first one came out when i was 16.

Almost everyone thought that boxoffice.com was crazy when they dropped their forecast to $49M OW and $125M total domestic. Turns out that they were being too generous.

All these recent bombs must be making WB feel better about BvS...now in their meetings they can be like hey at least it wasn't as bad as Warcraft or ID4R or Alice 2 or TMNT2...

They gonna have Tarzan money soon. No more lying to themselves that Zack Snyder's mess wasn't as bad as they thought it was. They'll be able to hold their heads high next week. Believe.

Please don't die, Tarzan.

Please.

;(

National Treasure legit more fun to watch than 90% of the so-called blockbusters released this year

Still fuming that they never made a third one when they still had a chance. Now it's never going to happen. I've seen both like 20 times each. Yes I'm kinda obsessed with them.

You can have the big stupid CGI setpieces

Just give me Nicolas Cage making up shit about history and blabbering while everybody around him just rolls their eyes

In my eyes, ID4 had bomb written all over it the moment they couldn't secure Will Smith. If you can't get the star of the first movie on board, then just scrap the project altogether.

Disney's shown that they give zero fucks about the length of time between a movie and its' sequel anyways

That being said, yeah it did about the same/a bit better than Tron Legacy, so they're not going to push for those when it makes no sense to now

I just wonder what ridiculous thing they could have Cage say as the hook for the third film

National Treasure: I'm going to steal the Declaration of Independence.
Book of Secrets: I'm going to kidnap the President of the United States.
World of Marvels: I'm going to kill Iron Man.

I nailed it. Don't bother looking it up.

It did 430 on a 130 budget. That would be like a home run, not a grand slam. Disney is basically battling for Grand slams from now on.

But a grand slam is a home run.

Bullshit, I want to see Nic Cage stealing evidence that Atlantis exists. Fuck Thor 3 and Han Solo.

He's going to hijack the Space Shuttle Atlantis.

You didn't follow the gripping tale of true love on the set of Green Lantern?!?

I only know they were married because GAF had a debate on whether Lively was an upgrade or downgrade from Scarlet Johanssen a couple of years ago. A google search solved the rest.

Which side won that debate?

Nice to see Cap still going strong.

I'm really curious how Purge will do next weekend. Purge 2 was fantastic and has really good word of mouth. Plus Purge 3 has had a really good advertising push.

Yup. While the number of mega-blockbusters seem to be going up, the number of films cracking $100M are trending downward

2012
Over $300M - 5
Over $200M - 11
Over $100M - 31

2013
Over $300M - 4
Over $200M - 13
Over $100M - 35

2014
Over $300M - 3
Over $200M - 13
Over $100M - 33

2015
Over $300M - 6
Over $200M - 10
Over $100M - 29

2016 (First 6 months)
Over $300M - 6
Over $200M - 6
Over $100M - 9

It might be difficult to get another 20 $100M+ films for the remainder of the year. If 2016 misses that mark, this will be the third straight year of decreases in the number of films reaching that level of success.

I only see 6 films that I would say are fairly certain to pass $100M during the remainder of the summer. ID4R and The Conjuring 2 have a decent shot out of the stuff currently playing, so that's 2 more, for a total of 17. Even if there are a couple of surprises in the remainder of the summer (and Ghostbusters doesn't flop since that's on my certain list), we need 10 films from Sep-Dec to hit that mark to tie last year.

The Magnificent Seven
Doctor Strange
Storks
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Fantastic Beasts
Trolls
Moana
Sing
Passegners
Rogue One

How many of those hit 100M?
