Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Unless you plan on gaming 4K, I don't even know why you'd pay whatever ridiculous premium Nvidia has in store for these cards.

I do have a 4K TV hooked up to my pc but yeah I got excited, I thought it was about the Ti, never getting a Titan, it's just a bad proposition value.

Any good benchmarks/impressions on SLI performance?

Would SLI offer any benefit for VR?

Techspot just put their Palit sli review up today.

Some choice 4k slides:

Curious to see Witcher 3 with hairworks on as the review mentions it kills SLI scaling.

I wasn't liking the overclock I was gettong on my G1 so I asked Amazon if I could exchange for a new one.
They said I could get a refund and then buy a new one but since there's none currently available at MSRP they offered $230 in Amazon credit to buy one of the marked up cards from 3rd party sellers.
Wondering if I should grab another G1 or if I should get something from a different manufacturer.
Any suggestions?

You could look at the FTW/STRIX/MSI Gaming, etc., but unless there's something you didn't like about the G1, it's not going to change your life much. You're just playing the silicon lottery.

What OC are you getting on your G1?

curious what OC you're getting? I'm able to hit a stable 2139 on my G1

I have to leave the offset at +70 and even that caused GTA 5 to crash
From what I've seen from other G1 owners people are getting double that

So, +70 on a G1 is around 1920mhz. I mean, that's a bit low for this chip, but you might keep in mind that the difference between 1900mhz and 2100mhz while playing actual games is pretty insignificant. You'd basically be swapping out for a card so you can feel better about your benchmarks. None of my damn business, though- it's your money, your decision!

Anyone else with a factory OC card having crashing issues when running benches or games at the factory OC settings? I'm going to give mine a long gaming session to see how it holds up, and hope I can make an exchange if not. It'd be crazy if it couldn't hold the moderate overclock that Asus has on it.

I mean if the exchange is basically I free I don't see a reason why not to :P

Gigabyte's Fan Stop feature's threshold temperature is at 50 degrees Celsius, I suppose my high room temperature was screwing with the fan control because the card is always near the threshold, I've adjusted the threshold to 60 to see how it goes.

E: The problem still persists.

If you're sure that you won't draw worse at the lottery :p.

FWIW, when the 670 gtx came out i bought the Asus DirectCu2 and it crashed on me in heaven. I returned it to superbiiz, I wasn't the only one with the problem. Im not surprised one bit that your card can't hold its advertised speeds.

Well the ceiling with these chips isn't very high at all, so I can see it bumping into the threshold. What's weird is that it hasn't crashed gaming yet. I've only played a few one hour sessions, but it's been unbelievably cool (14C cooler than the EVGA SC I had) and runs like a champ (with the stock OC). I just happen to test it this morning on the benches and it crashes out. If I add any OC to it, I do get artifacts in games, so I know it's at it's limit.

It is boosting on it's own to a completely stable 2050 in games. Doesn't move at all.

I checked in with Amazon today, just so it's on record that I am having issues. I'll use it until the stock levels out and get a replacement sent over.

I actually don't believe nor have the money saved yet for the 1080 Ti for August. December or January, yes. Until then, my 980 Ti will run Legion and some other games pretty well in G-sync 1080p 144hz.

Ok, so do I really have to use Precision X in order to change the LED's on my FTW? Is there really no other way to do it? The Nvidia Geforce experience app just lets me change the style and it's garbage. It's got a "breathing" setting that is almost as fast as the flashing style and then multiple "flashing" settings that are all like a flipping strobe light that is busted. There is no setting to change the color either.

I just don't want to have to use precision because I switched to afterburner so that I can have my OSD.

You probably wouldn't even perceive the difference at 1080p, especially with G-Sync. I honestly cannot tell beyond 100fps myself.

You're lucky man. My G1 tops out at +30 clock and nothing on mem. If I even touch it I get the unhappy face win 10 bluescreen...

Oh well not like I'm disappointed in performance but yours definitely wasn't the worst around.

Check to make sure driver verifier is off. Caused me all kinds of grief before I figured out a crash had activayed it.

Hmmm never heard of that one? What does it do?

Edit: my bad this is my 1070, not 1080, wrong thread. Still intrigued about the verifier thing though.

Retailer should get FTW stock today according to EVGA Ben. Don't really trust their estimates anymore but I want to believe ;_;

I would like to know more about this as well...

Quickly googled this, looks like you have to do some reg edits to disable it.

Might explain my BSOD (sad face) when overclocking my CPU. It was fine in win7, but crashes all the time under windows 10. Have to run it stock clocks for now.

Are you using the fan connect feature of the card? And if so see any difference in temps for your case/card?

I am using it. I don't notice a temp difference, but more of a sound difference. I have my fans cranked, since my case is a bit too small and doesn't have great airflow. Fan connect allows those fans to be silent until they're needed, which is great. Obviously they're linked to my CPU temps otherwise, which has a great cooler on it and doesn't really require help. To get them to support the GPU, I had to set an extremely aggressive curve to match the max CPUs temps in game....50C.

Long story short, it's a great idea and an awesome feature.

I would like to know more about this as well...

It's a feature in Windows that can get turned on inexplicably if your system has a kernel crash. It's supposed to collect diagnostic info by scrutinizing your native and third party drivers to determine system issues. I had a few crashes when trying to figure out the sweet spot for my system clocks. Usually you turn on driver verifier manually and use your computer for a while and then turn it off after some data is collected. Mine got turned on all by itself somehow after one of those Windows 10 emoji crashes. It's not supposed to run for more than 24 hours. I noticed my system was sluggish and couldn't figure out why. Then I dug into the memory dump from my crash and saw that it was related to driver verifier. I googled how to turn that shit off and it was like taking the speed governor off of a sports car. Instant speed improvement, and I suddenly had a lot more flexibility in my overclocks before running into driver crashes.

Nah, no reg hacks. Open an admin command prompt. Type:

verifier /reset

Then reboot. You win.

Don't know what's worse in that story, Texas or missing out on the card for a few days.

My family there is highly liberal and very rich, so I'll be spending most of my time at a luxury resort in San Antonio. No complaints here. :p

It's okay you can redirect it to me here in Austin and I'll tell you how it is.

For some reason I didn't read the "here in" part of your sentence and was like "Who are you and how do you know my real name?" lol

Are you using the fan connect feature of the card? And if so see any difference in temps for your case/card?

The top two are on the radiator connected to the CPU and the 140mm in the back and the 3 120 in the front are so inaudible as is I didn't bother. I've had no temp issues at all with the card even going up to 2100s.

There's really no such thing, depending on which VR games you want to play.

Still, I'll stick with "just" the 1080 for the foreseeable future.

Here is Sweden difference in price between 1070 and 1080 is around 30-35%

I wonder if you think that in that case, going with a 1080 would be smarter/better value? Money is not necessarily the issue but I wouldn't wanna spend it mindlessly.
This is on 1080p 144Hz G-Sync monitor (Acer XB240H)
